HOT TOPICS
Hello:
I just read this section on BeliefNet.com regarding the little puppy and I had to add my comment.. Although this topic had been available for a long while I felt I had to include my comment/story. I am one who beliefs that God places people and animals in our lives at specific times for many reasons. We just have to keep our minds, hearts and spirits open.
I am 47 years old and due to a prescribed drug that my mom was taking when she was pregnant with I was born without arms, but I am independent by use of my feet. In my world my feet are my hands, my toes are my fingers and my legs are my arms. I am grateful to God to be alive and well.
Not being raised by my biological parents I grew up in foster care. As far back as I can remember I never felt a sense of "Home" or belonging to anyone. I had so much love and care in my heart to give, but I never felt loved. This may be the reason why I freely gave my love and care to animals. I've loved and cared for animals ever since I was a little girl. I especially loved and cared for animals who didn't have a "home" or anyone to love them.
I have a great love for "ALL" of Gods animals especially cats. I've taken in and adopted abandoned cats ever since I was 6 years old. I had a 13 year old cat named Princess Sahara who I raised since she was about 3 months old. Sahara was my baby and she was spoiled rotten. I felt it was time for me to cut the mommy/cat apron strings and I wanted Sahara to have a playmate other then me and that's when I decided to adopt. Almost 6 years ago I went to an animal shelter with the hopes of adopting a kitten/young cat.
I remember it was a rainy, cold, damp and dreary day. To make matters worst I was coming down with a bad cold. I was determined to go to the animal shelter and adopt a cat. It didn't take me long to select me and Sahara's new family member. He was a beautiful 3 year old black cat named Sheeba. For many reasons I renamed him "Cool Jazz".
My friend and I sat in the waiting room as they they prepared Jazz to leave the shelter and come home with me. I was so excited about bringing home my new baby. As I waited for Jazz a man walked into the shelter with a box. He worked near the shelter and he was on his lunchbreak when he came across a box that contained two tiny kittens.
He ran to the shelter in hopes that they's take the kittens in. He knew they wouldn't survive alone. The weather was cold, damp and raw that day. Unfortunatelly the shelters admittance department was closed that day and under know circumstances were they going to take in these two stray kittens.
Being the animal lover that I am I couldn't resist peeking at the babies. They were tiny and helpless when I looked at them my heart melted away. The man who rescued the kittens said he could not take them home with him and if the shelter did not take in the kittens he'd have to return them where he found them.
There was no way I could allow that to happen. Needless to say that day I returned to my home with two kittens and a young cat Jazz. I kept asking myself "What am I doing". My 13 year old cat Sahara will have a fit if I come home with 3 cats.
I realized that God placed me where he needed me to be that cold dreary Autumn day in NYC. To provide a temporary shelter for the kittens it was ment for me to be at the shelter that day. I knew I wasn't going to keep the kittens but I still gave them a name "Peek-A-Boo and MidNight."
My friends niece took in Peek-A-Boo and MidNight was taken to a pet store that lovingly cared for him until he was adopted. MidNight was adopted within less then two weeks. He was adopted by a rich older lady who fell madly in love with him at first.
YES I truly believe God places us where he needs us to be. If I had not been at the shelter that day what would have happened to MidNight Peek-A-Boo and my handsome Cool Jazz?
Cool Jazz has bought happiness to me and my Princess Sahara. Sahara passed away one month shy of her 18th birthday. She was my heart. Raising her from a kitten of barely 3 months old Sahara was my child, my family and I misds her dearly. But I take comfort in knowing that I loved and cared for her all her life. She was very attached to me and I gave her a good life.
Cool Jazz is now a handsome, adorable beautiful big black cat. He's now 7 years old and YES he's is mommy's baby. Oh I also have a two year old Greek tortois named Fred Alton. YES Fred is also spoiled rotten and I truly adore him just as much as I've adored all of the animals that I have cared for in my life time.
Keep your minds, hearts and spirits open because God does have a plan for us and if we allow him too he will place us where we are most needed. Thank you for reading my long winded story.
I am so glad Franklin is home. I was born in the town of Franklin NC; my cousin works at that Walmart. My family goes to visit family there as much as we can. I have 3 dogs that I treat like children. My older dog is a toy poodle/lhasa apso mix, she is 11 years old. Her name is Baby. My big boy is Sampson; he is an American bulldog and 2 years old. And our youngest dog is Cyd, he is a boxer/beagle mix, he is 1 year old. We love these dogs. It is like having toddlers though. I would like to share a note of caution though. Sampson is a handful. He is very affectionate to me (or rather he craves all of my affection). I just find it difficult at times to have a 120 lb lap dog. I have a fybromyalgia, which makes it hard to handle him at times. Please pray for him and me. He needs more exercise that I am personally unable to provide. Sometimes he is just too rambuncous to be inside. I need to have a fence outside so he could have a place to run and play. My husband and I are hoping to get a lot set up for the 2 larger dogs this spring. God bless.
I'm so happy that Franklin is home...
May god bless Franklin and as much as blessing its owner.. kind owner who truly cares for pet. OH by the way, i have pet too,i named it "Shortie", wonder what kind of healthy food should we feed our pets? sometimes feeding the wrong brand might hurt their livers.. that was told from a friend, wonder if that's true?
Have a very Happy New Year!
Good night
reader-
Franklin is home!
Thank you to all who prayed for Franklin. My friend and i searched all over the hills here in Potter Co. looking for him and stopping by at many houses but just couldn't find him. The temps here have been at single digits and below and thought for sure Franklin was gone. We recieved calls that he at one point eariler last week that he was being chased by a german shepherd (unsupervised dog left to chase deer)I hiked hills trying to find him, got caught in barbed wire and warned about the bobcats here but I knew God would help me be safe and hoped God would still help Farnklin because I know He loves ALL His creation. We recieved a call very early in the morning from a woman that runs a little shop close by, after having a snowstorm come in the night before, that brought Franklin down off the hill to beg for food and she grabbed him, brought him in the store, called us and now he is here recouperating. He seems fine but exhaused and few scratches here and there. His color is grey and brown and he is a little dog, he could have been in my sight of vision but not see him with all dead foliage here.
Now he is getting more spoiled than before! I praise God for Him showing me His love and control through this and thank you all very, very much for your prayers! Words cannot express my deep gratatude.
Good Morning, You hear too much bad these days with abuse to animals and it's refreshing to hear a story such as yours that ends well even though the ending isn't quite clear yet! About fate though, Iv'e always understood that God is all knowing and yes I do believe that he gives us the choice to choose what to do in a situation right or wrong. But, doesn't God know what's in your heart and what your soul is made of? Ultimately he knows what your going to do. So isn't that still fate?..kinda in disquise? You tell me. I so enjoy your touch of encouragement it starts out my day. Thank you
Last year in 2007, my friend and i were in Franklin north Carolina at a huge wal-mart parking lot. We were about to enter the store when my eyes focused on a small puppy running through the moving cars at the parking lot. He came right up to me and would not leave my side. I spent hours trying to find his owners or someone that would be able to take him as my friend and i were staying at a motel and we were not going home for a week, no way to take care of him. We found the nearest Humane Society, they were completely full and the woman there explained to me that this little puppy was bread for fighting and there was nothing she could do. We took him home (he spent nights in the car because of motel rules) but during the day, we got to see how sweet and desire and longing he had for love. His name became Franklin, and he stole my heart.
I do believe that God is in total control and there was a reason for us to know him. Just yesterday Dec. 28th, somehow the front door to the house was left open and Franklin escaped. After hours of searching and driving around calling his name, no sign of him. I have never had a dog or puppy that I treated like a human child except Franklin...this is what he craved, always by my side wanting to be cuddled and hugged..he never left my side. Now I am battleing my faith and I don't know what to do. God put him in my life and because of one careless moment of not making sure the door was completely shut, the wind here was blowing tremendously and all the breeds in Franklin, it's hard for him..he wants to be outside running and I think he picked up a scent of an animal and followed it now i'm afraid he is lost. Please would any of your readers pray for his safe return? I am a widow how has lost everything and now with franklin, I don't think my heart can take anymore pain. I have heard that people with strong faith can carry others who do not have such faith...would you carry me in prayer? The temps here after a warm few days are plumiting and we are going back into single digits. Franklin does not have an undercoat and he will freeze....PLEASE PRAY FOR HIM He truly is a very sweet and skiddish dog with a very special personality. Thank you all very much.
My sister is a vetranarian. She was out doind errands, one day, and when she returned
home, she found this tiny dog by her house. a closer look proved that it was a miniture
Poodle, solid white. closer inspection proved that it was female but it seemed to have
broken bones likt it had been severely abused.Well, she went through the ritual of trying
to find the owner, to no avail. Well, she ended up keeping "Giget" but she had already nursed
her back to health. So now Giget is a permanant family member. I have three chihuahua's that
I love dearly. they are my babies and words can't express how much I love them. My husband is a photographer and I spend a lot of time alone. They are the best company in the world. I am severe Diabetic and one day My sugar started to drop and these dogs, I believe, saved my life by not letting me go to sleep. my husband was calling me but I couldn't hear the phone above their barking and biting me and pulling at my clothes. They just would not allow me to go to sleep, which was all I wanted to do.My husband finally called my neighbor, who is a nurse, and she came running to see about me with him still on the phone. between the two of them they fed me orange juice and peanut butter sandwiches until I was able to talk and say "I can't eat anymore". I credit my babies for saving my life. I would have been in insulin shock and mmaybe would have died but for them refusing to let me go to sleep.
marth what beautiful stories god bless them all.
Sixteen years ago my son and husband came to me about our neighbor's puppy;who wanted to know if we would take him.He was black and soft and they begged me to give him a home.
Igave in and we named him jake.Ablack labador who needed love and frienship and gave all his love to our two kids, grandchild ryan who loved him much.A month ago we were driving and saw a sign free chiwawa she was 8 weeks old i was hesitant because our jake was so old .we took her when she turned a month old our buddy jake passed,i believe he knew it was time to go,he knew that i would be ok now.today i will be picking up his ashes today.
i miss him terribly GOD BLESS JAKE.
Good Morning Martha....
I love you...thank you for your service & your inspiration & honesty.
I've always been the hero for strays...if I could, I would pick up strays daily & have my own kennel. Who knows, there's always still a chance that God may have that in store for me, right?!? That's been a simmering dream for many years. I haven't thought about that for a while. Hmmmmm, I have to pray on that one now.
We currently have two dogs & a cat. Frankye, a terrier mix, was found by my best friend (a dog groomer). She checked everywhere, to no avail; so there I was to the rescue. Frankye has been with us about 5 years now. Then we have Luyee, a Jack Russell. A very hyper Jack Russell. We took a ride over to the Humane Society one day...just to look around. Well, need I say more. Luyee was right along side us in the car, on the way home. And last but not least..Chloe. My beautiful grey, female cat. She was also a Humane Society baby.
We lost three of our cats in one year, three years ago....one was 19 & the other two 18. These were right off the street as kittens...and I could keep going on. For us, they help to complete our home life. AND MAKE IT MUCH BUSIER FOR MOM....lol But I wouldn't change a thing.
Keep up the wonderful, inspiration work you do Martha....YOU ARE MY HERO!!!
smiles & lotts of smooches & huggs, Lori K.
I was reading all these wonderful stories and I hope one day that they do find that Charlie did find his parents, but I am sure he has a wonderful home where he is now. I am a widow since 1996, and I have never had a dog or any type of animal. About seven years ago my brother and sister-in-law, who had a trailer and camped and parked in Charlestown Md. One day they decided to go to a flea market in Elkton Md. While they were there they saw two toy poodles that someone had literally thrown away. They brought them back to their trailer and called me to see if I would like to have one of them. I now have a Toy Poodle, who I have named Jake after my father. He weighs about 8 pounds, has great big brown marble eyes and is just like a child. He is my Guardian Angel. He can tell when I don't feel well. He sleeps on the bed on the pillow next to me and doesn't get up until I do. The minute I get up he is off the bed and ready to go wherever I am and I don't know what I would do if something ever happened to him. Of the two poodles the other one was Jakes mother and my brother and sister-in-law have her and they named her Tina. When they are together and they are both groomed you can't tell them apart. The reason these two dogs were throwaways, were that the woman just had a baby and she was unable to take care of two dogs. They are pure bred poodles. What a shame, she could of at least taken them to a Humane Society. But I guess I was the lucky one, I got a friend for life. Sorry if this is such a long story. But other than my husband who was the love of my life and passed away from cancer. JAKE is the love of my life. Ruthie B.
Hello all you dog and cat lovers,
There is nothing better than coming home and being greeted by your dog. Your dog loves you and is always happy to see you. they love you unconditionally no matter what. You come home from a hard day of dealing with rude and mean people all day long and you are in the worst mood but, when you are greeted by your favorite pet all your anger and frustration goes away. I think of it like this when you find a pet abused ar running wild and that pet comes to you and is shy or frightened it is gods will to keep that pet and take care of it and love it. I found a puppy running loose I rescued him from under big semi trucks. He was only about 7 months old. I tried to contact the owner on his tag and the phone was disconnected. I then called the vet on the tag and the vet told me his name and gave the same disconnected number. The vet also told me that the owners were not very nice to the little puppy. So I then decided that the little puppy needed a home and instead of taking him to the pound and he would be put in a cold cage I gave him a home of love and caring. he was the best little puppy. he was always happy to see me and he loved my children. My children and I gave him so much love and caring he lived to 19 years old. He was a little toy poodle and one day I will have another one. Right now I have a female pug and her son. The mother is 9 years old and her son is going to be three in October. I raised the son myself. Both dogs are the best dogs because I do not believe in abuse or mistreatment. It is God's Will to take care of all his creatures. I will always be a dog lover and now I also have a cat.So people please be kind to your pets because they will be your friend for life and thay will never let you down. Think of all the people that will come and go in your life and hurt you and diappointment you but, your pet will never do that he or she will always love you and make you smile. For all those people that do not like dogs shame on you for feeling that way. You really do not know waht you are missing.
I feel the same way. People who keep their dogs outside are crazy. Dogs need to be loved and they crave the human touch. I believe that dogs do not survive without the human touch. I did rescue a puppy and tried to reach the owner I even called the vet on the dogtag and no one claimed him. So I kept him and he was the best dog he was always at my side and very affectionate. I have always been an animal lover. If I could I would live in a huge house in the country and have tons of dogs and cats to take care of. So I say to any one out there who cares for animals please take care of them always and always pray for the misfortunate animals being abused and mistreated. If you have an opportunity to rescue an animal please do it and give them a good home, Dogs and cats enhance your life and they are your lifelong companion , believe it because it is true.
I have been so lucky to have had wonderful dogs & cats thru the years. I want to let everyone know something about pitbulls. I was always afraid of them. I have a 5 month old female red nosed pit. ( I got her when she was 7 weeks old from a friend who had a litter & gave them all away.) These dogs are incredibally smart, & very loving. It's all in how you raise them. My dog loves me unconditionally. She is a great watchdog. I would gladly have another pitbull. So don't let the bad remarks about them scare you from ever having one. Thanks for all the great stories. Jan..Florida
Thank you for this beautiful story, I am an animal lover and when I found myself jobless at age 58, after not finding employment I decided to do what I always talked about doing. I started my own pet sitting service. It has helped me in so many ways and only the good Lord could have led me in this direction. I am not getting rich but what I do get is more wonderful than I ever would have dreamed. I am so glad that I listened to that little voice that said " I know were I want you" I think I know the owner of that voice. Back to your story were you blessed with Charlie. I so hope you were.
So, what happened to little Charlie?
hey, i love animals i want to be a vet when i grow up so thank you so much for the love you have for animals thank you and my prayers are with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!great job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1yourock!!!!!!!
I too have rescued many animals in need-at this time I have a cockatiel, a sugarglider, n a bratty, spoiled chihuahua! All of them were abused n on the brink of being abandoned. Some of them were a real learning exp to take care of (like the sugar glider). But they have brought joy to our lives n a purpose to our days!
I too believe that God works in mysterious ways. In my case it was a cat. I haven't had a cat since I was a child of about ten. His name or should I say her name was Ki' Ta She was an avid hunter and brought her pray home quite often. Mainly birds. Anyway back to the present. My Landlord asked me to take care of her daughter's cat after she suffered a major stroke. She is paralysed and cannot speak.,except to repeat cincin when she communicates. Whatever the subject is she can only say cincin. She needs our prayers. Anyway to make a long story short, after three months she said she could no longer care for her daughter's cat and would have to put it down. My conscience would not allow me to go along with this unfortunate change of plans. I offered to take the cat and he has become an important member of my family. I really love him greatly. If anything were to happen to him I would be deeply hurt. That was one reason that I didn't have anymore pets. I had to give up my Lucy girl because of my living arrangements. My heart was severely broken and I still cry to this day when I see or do something that we shared together. She was so loyal and trusting, I would live on the street now if I could only get her back. I do not dare get another dog for fear that I will lose her. It's like a catch twenty-two. The cat, his name is Gigey, is a great companion. I'm going through a rough time with a separation and I can't imagine life without him. He's great company and low maintainance.
Please finish this story,or add another phase.it would take too long to tell my stories of rescues,or give examples of the many animals,i've taken in,from cats,to dogs,to pot belly pigs!all had been abandoned,or abused,or needed intervention, because of life circumstances.i believe with my whole heart,GOD sends them in my direction, and it's my calling to care for them, until i can find a better place for them.my grandaughter shares this phenomenal gift, and,i see it in my daughter.dogs were created for companionship, and to lead the way, during times of darkness, and despair.they ask for very little, other than a kind word,a pat on the head, and food, but, they give us so much more ,at times when we need a friend to listen, but not judge, and unconditional love, when we are drowning in what feels like unfixable mistakes.your story, brings back so many memories, and,i know without a doubt,my rescues were not so much rescues of the poor pitiful 4 footed creatures, but rescuing myself, and,at times when i needed rescuing, and no one else understood my delimna, but a dog.Jesus walks this earth in many forms.think of this the next time you feed a starving kitten,or homeless pup.give them warmth, love, enough food to make them satisfy their hunger, and look into their eyes.i hope "charlie" has found his family by now.
I will never understand people, referring to the person who has an "outside dog." Why do some people think large dogs cannot be inside dogs? I feel sorry for that poor thing, especially with the little dogs she keeps inside. Between the weather and the pack instinct of dogs who need to be with their pack, it just baffles me that people refuse to let big dogs in.
I "rescued" a German Shepherd/Chow mix puppy from our Animal Shelter many years ago when my children were small. I was freshly divorced at the time and my two young daughters and I were starting out "new"...again. This puppy became our protector, their "babysitter," playmate, our friend and companion. He had a heart of gold, and was a gentle soul. Even our cats played with him! When he was young the girls would dress him in clothes and play; he never minded. As he got older, stronger and bigger they used him for their "pony!" He never minded. So, the puppy I thought we had "rescued," actually rescued US! He's gone to the rainbow bridge now; as always, waiting on us. We miss him dearly!
Martha, PLEASE finish, or at least add to, your story! God BLESS you for stopping and rescuing that puppy! My family and I rescue dachshunds who have been abused, or thrown away, and find them new homes. We have 3 we couldn't let go, and 1 solid white German Shepherd that I bought for my husband. Roxy is the outside guard dog, and the others guard the inside. We try to train all of them to do "kewl" tricks, but they are awfully stubborn, and like to say, "NO!" Thank you for your story, and thanks again for stopping for that little guy...
hello this is my frist time that i have wrote anything and put it on the web but after reading all these stories i didnt feel so alone. i am one of the people that love all of gods creatures and my friend say that i live in a zoo.but that is okay by me i love animals and that is that. the good lord gave me a heart big enough to hold plenty of love for every living thing. i reseved this love for animals frommy grandmother she loved animals more than some people. she would care for wild birds, rabbits, ducks, anything that her many cats would bring her, she would nurse them back to health and free them if they were able, if not she would care for they forever she didnt mind. she lived on a mine farm as we call it,chicken, ducks, pigions, cats, dogs, rabbits even 3pigs at one time. i have 4 dogs and 4 cats, i love them all. i believe that we should always do the right thing when it comes to gods creatures. the love you get back is inmeasureable. TRUST ME GODS KNOWS.
This was an excellent story and I finally found an opportunity, with my busy schedule, to read it. I'm sure glad I did. We took in a stray young puppy in over 25 years ago. By our accounts at that time, if we had not taken him in, he would not have survived much longer on his own. Well, after some feedings, a long cleaning up, a trip to the vet for a check up and some treatment, along with some endured barking at night, and a little love, this puppy became a 20 plus year devoted friend. This little love we showed this puppy turned into more devotion and love in return from this dog then anything we could have ever imagined. He didn't live forever but he sure tried. Not many days go by that I still don't think about "Lamar" and what he meant to our lives. In fact, I can't imagine how our lives would have been if Dad had not decided to keep him in the first place. To say "I love you Lamar" is an understatement to me but where ever he is I hope he hears me and knows it means so much more than my words could ever express. Please God, let him, along with all my loved ones who have gone to heaven before me, be there waiting with open arms and in his case juicy licks too.
I love Charlie, sight unseen. We have a number of Charlies at our house... We had to haul water to our house for our livestock and daily household needs a couple of years ago. One windy cold and rainy after noon we went to a well near the local airport- which is medical transport only-- There was a storm moving in and we were in a big hurry. There were 2 small pups there shivering in the cold trying to find warmth. When my husband walked over to them they just looked up with sad eyes --- he noticed one was a girl [at my feet] with a cute button nose [now called Buttons} and her companion which my husband also declared a female [Duchess}. He did not have the heart to leave those little ones out there. Dutch [who was to be a duchess] is a very laid back kid and is always there when the hugs and pets are passed out. Button is still here too- in fact we have 3 little buttons ready for good homes, if you are near northern AZ-- Free to good homes with lots of love of course.. We also have a stray that came to our house for about 1 month-- Large/black with 2 sox on his front legs. He is friendly, loving, fit right in with our other dogs. He disappeared one day and returned about 2 weeks later. Now we tell every one that 2sox had to say his good buys and gather his "ditty" bag and tooth brush so he could move in. Sox has been here for 3 years now... the other seven we have are from our original 2 Navajo Dogs..
We also have goats, cats, and horses -- God has blessed us with animals who get along very well. Our dogs are protective of our home , their people and their goats and horses as well... I feel we are truly blessed with so very much unconditional love-- Diane/az
My story begins 3 years ago. My husband says: "Gracie needs another buddy." Gracie is my prodigy child. She can shake 3 feet and doa little routine in sign language. Gracie is German Shepard/Labrador mix. She came from the Humane Society.
We went to the Humane Society, out-of-county...and we found my obnoxious son, who has much to learn. He is a Beagle and part jack-rabbit. But after all this time...he is my little love bug.
Love and Friendship
Dear Martha,
Things do happen for a reason. Pantyhose are replaceable as are, does not matter how fancy or expensive, the clothes we wear.
Love, pure and unconditional love is not; that pure love comes from God, from animals (especially dogs) and from true mothers (from what I hear nowadays some require their children to be high achievers or else; oh well... but that is another story).
I loved reading "Charlie's" story, and also all those following! A friend of mine was on his way home from his night job (3 a.m.) when a young pup darted in front of him. He stopped, called out and the little guy ran right to him. Not wanting to leave him and his fate to a speeding car, he took the apx. two yr. old puppy home, but returned the next day and posted signs. By that afternoon he received a phone call from the owner and returned the pup, heart heavy as in that short time they had enjoyed a run on the beach, a romp in the park, a good rubdown, and lots of love. We don't think the dog had ever been let go to run, ever. His exhuberance was almost pitiful. My friend was sad to return his new friend but learned the owner is disabled, and was glad to get her dog back.
After two days of missing "Dexter" and wondering if he did the right thing, he got a call from the owner, would he like to keep "Dexter"? She explained she is not able to leave the house much, and after hearing about his adventures at the beach and park realized she wanted a better life for this wonderful little guy.
Of course this was God's way of putting two lonely souls together. My friend is not a Christian, although he does believe in a Higher Power. When I sang God's Praise for the miracle of "Dexter" in his life, my friend exclaimed, "I have to say I think you're right about God, and I thank Him every day now for my Dex." Truly God knew these two needed each other, put them together, and by doing so opened my friends eyes to His Goodness. Since then Dex is a regular visitor to my house and helps my 19 year old dog get around by being his eyes and teases him into action so he is no longer the sad, old dog just waiting to die. This shows how a fun loving, carefree dog changed 3 lives to the good by just being himself, a creature of God, full of unconditional love.
Many years ago, a certain black lab entered my family in a similar manner. My dog had died, and my children spotted a young couple knocking on a neighbor's door with a one-year-old black lab on a leash. The neighbors weren't home, and my children were falling all over this lovely, friendly animal. They had hoped that the neighbors would take him, as they had to move and couldn't keep him. The neighbors had already acquired a dog, so they couldn't take him. We made a decision to keep him. Sherlock became Sherlock the Sure-Lucky! He was my companion for 13 years, protecting me, protecting my children, and being a loving friend to the neighborhood. Without him, the attack by the neighbor's rottweiler would have been serious. God put us in the right place at the right time.
Just last Friday afternoon, my husband brought home a minature Doberman Pincher. I had seen the dog the day before, but had hoped he belonged to some of the families living in the trailer houses and other homes along the road. Since we have 4 horses, 3 big dogs and 2 cats, I figured I had aleady pushed the "limit" on our animals. On Friday, I didn't see him, but Billy did. A couple had already pulled off the road with a can of dog food to entice the fellow to come to them. With cars and trucks zooming down the road, Billy felt it was impossible to catch him...he's really fast. But, just before they were to give up, Roscoe P. Coltrain (that's what we named him) came to the lady and let himself be caught. When Billy called to tell me he was bringing a puppy home, I asked, "Does he have big ears???" That's all I could really remember about the puppy was how big his ears are. Well, it was the same puppy and he is just precious. Just this morning, we would have overslept if it hadn't been for him. I am thrilled to have him, but I will try to find his owners because if I had lost him, I would be really upset, as I am sure they are. But, if we can't find his owners, he will have a place in our hearts and home for as long as he lives. God is a miracle worker, I am convinced. Lisa
Martha,
Two years ago, my wife and I weren't looking to acquire another dog and that's when God brought Angel into our lives. She showed up out in the country at our farm, a white lab mix who was probably a year old, full of energy and full of fleas and ticks. Needless to say, she captured our hearts and our pocket book and because she showed up on Palm Sunday and is pure white, she became "Angel". And, what an incredible dog she has turned out to be. On more than one occasion she has helped me turn a bad situation on the farm into a good one almost as though she is telepathic or has a "sixth sense" about her. She's been known to watch over me long into the night as I am on the tractor cutting or baling hay or planting the next crop of wheat. She has touched us in ways that I never thought possible. So, I hope you get to ruin many a pair of panty hose as you raise this little pup - or should I say this little blessing from God?
Randy
Marth,
Please let us know the fate of "Charlie" the little puppy. I
keep waiting to hear if he is now "Charlie Williamson". Won't you Please finish the story for us.
Thanks so very much,
Charlotte
Thank you so much Martha and thank GOD for worderful carring people such as yourself. I of course would have done the same thing. I can not beleive or understand that anyone would just be so cruel, careless and drive away as if they did not see anything. We had kind of a similar situation but with a hungry freezing kitten in the midst of a brutal winter night. My husband went out and searching in bushes in the deep freeze and finally fetching the little kitten. We put posters around our area for this poor little loss kitten, with no avail. We had decided to bring her to the Humane Society ... but just couldn't. So my husband and I kept her. She lived with us for 17yrs until she got sick and to kitty heaven she went. God bless you!
GOD BLESS U U DID SUCH A WONDERFUL THING BY STOPPING AND PICKING UP THAT PUPPY.I ALSO AM A ANIMAL LOVER.I OWN 9 DOGS,7LHASA,2 GREAT DANES.SOME YEARS AGO I WAS LATE FOR MY OWN WEDDING.I STOPPED TO RESCUE A LITTLE POODLE.GOOD LUCK.I HOPE YOU GET THE PUPPY BACK

Thumbs up to you & your family, I hope Charlie gets to stay with you .I am an animal lover and feel a special bond with others that do good by animals. God bless.
BEAUTIFUL, GOD BLESS U & YOUR FAMILY FOR SAVING A LIFE.
FATE (DESTINY) IS WRITTEN IN EVERY ONES LIFE AND IT WAS YOUR FATE TO SAVE. IN ONE WAY GOD TESTED U & YOUR FAMILY FOR YOUR FAITH IN HIM AND HIS CREATURES.
Dear Martha,
Hope Charlie becomes part of your home--you understand that is a blessing in disguise! You have earned more feathers on those beautiful wings! God Bless and take care.
hi all i want to say fantastic fpr people and yes there is a god
I love all of these stories! Of course, I have one too! I have a Yorkie that a co-worker's mom "didn't want anymore". Her name is Kelsey & she was 5 years old at the time. She is now 7. I wasn't sure if I wanted to try to take on a dog. I rescue Cockatiels and had 6 at the time, none of them locked up in cages. I was afraid that a dog would kill my feathered babies but I took Kelsey in anyway. That same day another animal rescue friend of mine said she knew a couple that would love to adopt Kelsey. I thought it may be best since I was really nervous about the birds. I told her I'd bring Kelsey to her. I was on my way there, having a tug-of-war with my feelings - should I keep her, should I give her up, should I keep her, should I give her up. Well, I got to the entrance ramp of the highway & there was one single roadhorse blocking the ramp. Now mind you, there was no construction or anything going on there that would warrant placement of that roadhorse. I knew it was a sign from God. I turned around, called my friend & told her that I was going to keep Kelsey & I am so happy that I did! She IS an Angel sent from Heaven & at the time we didn't know it, but we definitely needed each other. We love each other very much & we both know that we are extremely blessed! And the birds you ask? Kelsey has never bothered a single feather on any of their little bodies! They are still free-flight babies who spend a lot of time on the floor. Kelsey KNOWS they are her brothers and sisters and just sniffs at them. Thank you Jesus!
I was very touched by your story about the puppy. I too found a puppy under my truck at the townhouse that we were living in at the time. That was 5 years ago. We originally named him Zeus, but at the time my granddaughter was just learning to talk so she called him Juice. We thought that was a cute named so it stayed. Nobody claimed him, so I had taken him to the vet the next day to make sure he didn't get parvo or something while we waited for the owner to claim him. He weighed only 5 lbs. and now is a healthy 120 lbs. Well, obviously the owner never came so he became ours. After we had him for a yr. we decided to get him a playmate. So we went to a nearby shelter to adopt a pet rather than breaking in a new puppy. The original dog that we had picked didn't get along with Juice. So the attendent asks us if we wanted the other dog that had caught our attention by jummping in his cage as if he was telling us "Pick me, pick me". Since we are both dissabled we thought he would have too much energy for us, so we had passed him up. But when the attendent brought him out to see if he would get along with Juice, we were all supprised to see how well they got along. They were both playing catch and running around like if they were brothers. They even drank out of the same water bowl without fighting! So we brought him home. He was all black except a small patch of white under his neck, so I didn't know what to name him. I said it out loud that I didn't want to name him the black typical names like Blackie or Ebony or something like that. As if answering my question on cue, he reached for one of Juice's "babys' and reached for the Mickey Mouse doll. So I said, That's it! I'll call you Mickey, since you have the big ears like him and your mostly black. So he named himself. He had been listed as a stray, but he had his ears clipped and was house broken so I knew someone had taken the time and money to get them done, but I didn't understand why they let him go. I later found out that he didn't get a long to well with my grandchildren so I figured that's why they let him go. But with a lot of tlc, he came around and has since loves children. We also rescued another puppy from starvation and abuse and named him SmokeyJoe. After SmokeyJoe, we rescued another stray Shadow, and had her and SmokeyJoe fixed so we wouldn't be saddled with a bunch of mixed puppies. Then just a few weeks before Christmas last year my husband rescued a chihuahua from the freezing rain that we named Tinkerbell. No one has claimed her despite our posters and flyers. I can understand how someone would not miss an expensive dog like her. But here she is, settled in with the rest of the brood that exepted her like the rest of them. By the way they all know when we spell Cookies, or Treats they are going to get peanut butter cookies that I buy espiecially for them. The Lord has blessed us with such wonderfull pets that we see like if they were our children, and I can't imagine life without these dogs that give us unconditional love and compassion. I'm glad that God has placed them with us. He knew that we would treat his little Angels with love and give them good homes. Keep Charlie Martha, you will not regret it, I promise you.
All of my pet have been "Charlies", God gives us a gift to be in the right place at the right time. At some point in our lives we are all "Charlies". If it's homeless person to the riches person in the world, we all feel lost at some point. I'm getting divorced and I know what Charlie feels like. But it's God who is here to comfort me and make me not feel so alone. He has a better plan for me than I have for myself. God Bless all of you who do pick up the Charlies and feed the stray "Charlies", everytime we do God smiles at us because we are taking care of something he created.
Hello Martha, I have so been in your situation too. I have children and once upon a time a raccoon was hit by a car on our mountain highway and we nursed it back to health. This was the beginning of a beautiful relationship between our family and nature. I will say unless you have training in this area you SHOULD NOT deal with wild animals. I'm truly, daily thankful for God's "intervention" in my life by way of a helpless, needy, loving animal. Sometimes the lessons they teach us the ones that God has been trying to teach us and we haven't been listening. You've been given a gift and more love than you could ever imagine. Hey, I guess that you got the lesson. Congratulations on your new "LOVE". Charlie will be the greatest joy and the greatest test of that love. But you know, it's soo worth it. God blessed you. ENJOY his gift to you.
Hello I like your story. when my Kids were little thy would always. find cats and dog and bring them home from school. and we try to find the owner. and some time we could and other we couldn't. but thy were a joy to us. we have had birds cats dogs fish. rabbits duck you name it we had it.last year I lost my two birds I had.yes we love all kinds of animals. I don't have any now. but my Grils do. thy love all God animals.
Thank you. Esther. may God bless. every one.
you have a nice day.
Our pets are our gifts of gold from our Lord. All my pets that I have had were strays or ones that people did not want.I now have 2 cats from the humane society that I adopted 15 years ago .Being alon now they are my Babies,They give me their love and companionship .I would be lost without them. They truly are God's Angels. Over 2and a half momths ago my Daughter's 2 dogs dug under the fence and wandered away from home. We were all in panic to find them, after contacting the police and the humane society. We looked every where ,they were spotted at a park , as the beagle ran away she was killed on a bridge. Don't know if the person reported it ,but the police brought her home, the other dog was retuned by a nice young lady. The whole incident was very tragic, and we miss her since then. so take care of your pets and any other you come across who needs you, tey are very precious.
I cannot imagine life without pets. They are so forgiving and love so much. They care when people forget us. My husband and I have a collection. Some were left by my kids, others are adopted strays, others are offspring and even a Nanday concure. I love them all and would not want to part with even one. Each has taught me a lesson about character, compassion, and patience. Keep Charlie and love him dearly.
Terri, it sounds like you are ready for a new pet who will become the second love of your life.
What a nice story! And the comments could have kept me happy reading them all. "Poetcyn"'s poem is lovely...and fun.
My daughter and son-in-law had two cats, and missed the two when the 25-year-old Persian passed away. The sister-in-law appeared at their front door a few weeks later with big eyes: "I have something for you". From behind her back she brought only a handful of coffee-bean colored kitten, with injuries.
Of course, "Bean" had an instant home.
The Sister-in-law had stopped for a traffic light, and saw the kitten bashing itself against the car door in front of her, trying to get in, but the driver did not see the little desperate fellow. But "Bean" was smart...he moved on and repeated the bashing at the car of the Sister-in-Law...and the rest is celebration!
We still call him Bean, but he's no longer brown: trips to the vet's for his care revealed that he was supposed to be black, but had gone brown from starvation and illness.
Today he is a mini-jaguar....shiny and black and jubilant and elegant,
and a fine addition to all that is good about my daughter's home.
Angels? You bet!
keep the puppy.
I love your story of charlie, (my grandson is a charlie) a great name for a boy or a dog. I have 6 cats. all strays, needing a home. It's like I have a big neon light that says CATs are Welcome. When people ask how many cats do you have , I reply , 6 not by choice, but by GODS grace. I love them and they bring me so much pleasure. I love Dogs also, but cannot have them where I live. I've started a pet sitting business for a little extra income, but mostly so a loved one doesn't have to put in a kennel , but can remain in their own home while their owners are away. I call it "LOVE YOUR PET". I treat them as if they are my own and it gives their families peace of mind knowing that they are being loved while away. Let us know if Charlie finds his home with you and your family. you are a special angel.
can't wait to hear the rest of this story,,,it might be the advise to "me,the lost puppy". thnx
What a beautiful story of God's love for HIS creatures , He put you in the right place at the right time. I am looking forward to that "happy ending"
DEAR MARTHA,YOU ARE A WONDERFUL PERSON TAKING CARE OF CHARLIE.I PRAYED HE FINDS HIS OWNER,IF NOT,THAT HE HAS A HOME WITH YOU.I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A PET SOMEDAY.THEY ARE GODS PRECIOUS CREATURES FOR US TO LOVE AND ENJOY.
You must keep little Charlie, this story touched my heart. I had to put my little love of my life down about a year ago and I miss her so much. I have never replaced her, but have thought alot about it. I believe God blesses us with special friends, pets for a reason, he knows we need something. Take that little guy home and love him as much as you can. I have living situation that I can not replace my baby yet, but as soon as possible I will. I feel they are put on this earth by God to give us the special love we need. This story was a blessing to me. I needed the encouragement from the responses. Do what is right. He was sent into your lifes for a reason. God Bless.
Keep Charlie .love him dearly.I have a rescued cat I truly love, My children are grown, my grandchildren are busy and my greats, well they are beautiful and they all understand My love for COCO........
Charlie the Puppy
by Cynthia "Poetcyn" Lewis
Whether Charlie will get to be your pet
hasn’t been decided yet
one thing of which you can be sure
soon there will be a puppy at your door
the puppy flu has entered your house
it sits right there not quiet like a mouse
your kids will pass this bug to you
no matter what you will or won’t do
Charlie’s wet tongue and nose
will ruin more than pantihose
He will drag your heart through every emotion
as he spills his share of toilet paper and lotion
He will fill your house with joy and glee
missing slippers will be a constant mystery
He’ll eat homework and make puddles galore
as soon as you clean it up he’ll make some more
Someday as you scratch Charlie behind his ear
and fill his heart with freedom from fear
he’ll look at you with those darn puppy eyes
and you’ll know that you have won first prize
God bless you and yours and Charlie the pup

Adopted/rescued animals can be the best. They seem to know that they have been rescued and seem more appreciative. My favorite dog was a pound puppy. He was a handsome dog that many people thought was a pure bred. The vet thought he was a mix of german shepherd and sheltie - whatever he was, he was perfect for our family at that time. My ex and I were having difficulties and my first baby, a Lhasa apso, had recently died. I wasn't ready for another dog but our two girls were. This time I swore I would adopt from the pound and not spend all that money on a pure bred dog. Despite me not wanting another long haired male dog...that's what we got. He was picked out by my oldest daughter and he knew it. When she was in her dating years he would wait by the front door for her to come home and then come to sleep in my bedroom. (He knew who was the alpha dog in the house.) He would hang out with me/us while we would shovel snow from a long driveway in the winter, walk w/out a leash with me (provided no other dogs were around) and keep looking back to make sure I was still behind him, and he was the best car dog I've ever had - he wanted to go everywhere with us. No dog is perfect - he would be nervous around little kids and had little patience with other dogs, but he was with us for 14 good years. During the rough times of the divorce he provided the comfort of that unconditional love you can get only from an animal, a distraction of playfulness for the kids (and me), and companion for me as the kids grew up and had their own activities.
He had to be put to sleep due to cancer. While the timing of it may have seemed bad, I guess it was ok - the youngest was off to college, the oldest was married and on her own, and mom was building a new life for herself. My partner had two cats, and moving 450 miles away to live with two cats would have been too much stress for my furry buddy. We would like a dog but cats are easier to care for in many ways. And besides, the new dog would have some very big paws to fill ...I am very picky about my dogs...I had a good one.
Slightly off-topic, slightly on...
Paul Harvey told a wonderful story years ago about a little two-year-old toddler who had wandered out of her parents' trailer in the middle of the night. It was snowing and cold with the temperature in the teens. The search party that gathered the next morning spent a couple of hours before they found the little one, snuggled up in her thin nightgown, with the imprint of a large dog? next to her. When the rescuers asked her how she had stayed warm during the night, she told them that a big dog had come and laid down with her and kept her warm. One of the fire and rescue personnel scratched his head as he explained that the tracks leading to and from the child's resting place were those of a wolf.
Dog, Wolf...God's angels take many forms, don't they!
i had a situation something like that. i came home from the doctors one day and found a little puppy in my front yard. i asked the children across the street if they knew who he belonged too, they all said that they did not know. they went up and down they streets asking people and no one were missing him. my son and i decided to keep him until someone came for him. we put posters up. my son took him to the vet to have him checked out. acouple of days later we found out that someone was dropping puppies in peoples trucks and on the street. we kept the puppy and his name is dozer. i think god left him at my house so he would be taken good care of, my dog of 15 years had past away last summer. the puppy gets along great with my 4 adopted cats that we found in different locations, that have been with us found 2 years to 9 years.
I am involved with rescuing greyhound dogs. Currently, I am fostering dog #23. He is a big old puppy at heart. In a foster home the dog learns the rules of home living & gets lots of TLC. Greyhounds are very intelligent, loyal, sweet, & like routine. They adjust quickly to home life. The goal of our greyhound chapter is to find a "forever home," for the dog. I also have my own greyhound to love & cherish, (a sweet little female, white w/tan spots; she's adorable). Greyhound is the only dog ever mentioned in the Bible (King James version): Proverbs 30:31. In my husband's grandmother's King James Bible it reads: Yea, four things which are comely in going (meaning: great & strong,) a lion, a greyhound, he-goat (ram), & a king. Read all three verses in Proverbs 30: v. 29, 30, 31. God has given us so many wonderful creatures to love and care for, and they reciprocate by loving us back unconditionally. The Lord has blessed me abundantly by bringing the greyhounds into my life, & allowing me to serve them by offering my humble home, as foster for love.
Animals have meant more to me during the years than anyone .who listened to me as a child when i thought i didnt fit in or the boy i liked didnt like me back.who cuddled with me at night .i now run an animal rescue in orlando and we have saved many dogs and cats occasional ferret ,rat, bunny, bird.i own 9 rescue dogs who were "unadoptable" and 5 cats and love them all people who don't like animals have something missing in their life and so do people who think animals are disposeable if you cant raise an animal how can u raise a child .pets teach u unconditional love.i have heard people say that their god doesnt believe animals have souls well mine believes they have huge souls .i think the owned ones are here on vacation who else has someone feed them, take them out pet them, cuddle them and they have nothing to do in return, but love us in return
Rescued dogs know they are rescued and become the most devoted and loving family members you can have. At first they may be a bit defensive through fear from their pasts, but once they know they will be loved, oh my gosh, they can help you through anything and soothe your heart when no one else can. This is coming from a mother who lost her only child in a car accident and is finally healing with two spunky pups named Chester and Leo that were puppy mill pups scheduled to be slain. They have reminded me why I should be grateful for life.
HOW TOUCHING @ TRUE, WELL WE NOW HAVE TWO DOGS ONE 11 YEARS AGO... @ ONE 5 YEARS HAPPENED MUCH LIKE YOUR STORY HOPE YOU CAN KEEP HIM. THEY ARE A JOY...
We need more mortals like you, kind, caring and concerned.
You will love Charlie and he will come to mean alot to you and your family. They are truly gifts from the Lord.
Just think the Lord hand selected Charlie for you.
I have been around a good many years and in those years what I find is: Children that are raised with animals, God's creatures, are more compassionate, loving and caring. Too, it helps them develop responsiblity in the care of a pet.
I have cats and there is nothing more restful, when I am stressed, than have one of my cats crawl up into my lap and purr, looking at me with those adoring eyes and unconditional love that creatures can have but mortals cannot.
In northern WY it seems people are just bent on slaughtering whatever they can and however they can. I weep so often for the pet that is lifeless or the wild creature that has been hit on purpose. There are people that even knowing there is a pet along the way will swing out and hit. I do hope they will be harshly judged by the Lord.
My life has been challenging, at times, struggling with depression and insufficient funds to afford decent housing and quality food. But I have only considered myself "poor" when I have had to live without animal companions. Right now I have a darling little dog named Sammi, who adopted me in preference to the neighbors who owned her but didn't take proper care of her. A bigger dog named Honey also shares my love; she came from a shelter, so very frightened she would not even accept food from a hand when she was very hungry, and would run away if anyone called her or tried to approach her. And a beautiful cat named Silky would have been put down if I had not adopted him. These animals are but the most recent in a long list of animal friends I have taken in and loved, beginning in my early childhood. How rich I am! I thank God every day for the privilege of showing kindness to these dear friends who have needed my care, and who have so richly rewarded me with their love in return! God bless every one of you who give yourselves to help the creatures He has made!
God is Great! He has allowed me to rescue such wonderful dogs! I have always had dogs but not to the extent that I have had in the last 6-7 years! It seems that when I lose a dog another one finds me! I do not go looking for these precious animals but God always allows me to find them or vise-versa. Right now I am the "happy mother" of 5 chihuahua mixes, a Boston-Terrier, 3 Pit-mixes, and a Shepherd Mix-10 total and "Big Charlie" a neighbor's dog who likes to stay with us!! They all stay in the house and we have a fenced in back yard for them! We have put two king-sized beds together so they can sleep with my husband and I-I am blessed that my husband loves them as much as I do!! I will always have dogs although losing them is such a heart-breaking emotion, the love they give to me is well worth it! I know that I will see them in heaven!!
Dear Martha: Many hugs and kisses for opening your heart to a lost puppy. I too have just rescued a 7 month old Silkey Terrier from a chaotic home where she went for days without food and living in a soiled crate, her only caretakers were children under the age of 8.
I know these dogs are very high energy and puppies require alot of attention, exercise and discipline but I took her on as a companion to my 2 year old Aussie Terrier and because she was such a wonderful spirit looking for a stable life.
What I want to say about dogs (all animals have great healing powers), but dogs are there at the top of the list for their outward display of love and affection. I feel they are just angels in a furry suit, here to help us all thru life and it's tribulations with unconditional love and company. Dogs make us better human beings. THey teach us what is really important in life and we can take this and apply it to our relations with others. They are the best medicine with no side effects!
They don't care what you have or where you are in life, they just want to love you and that is something we all need to carry in our philosophy of living.
Love you pet = recognize your pet is a gift from Spirit manifested in a furry suit.
Martha,
I couldn't have left him either (notice I didn't say wouldn't). Growing up, our family always had dogs, and I mean always, plural. Never less than two, and as many as nine. Dogs of all types, big dogs, little dogs, Beagle hounds, Coon hounds, Bird dogs -- you're getting the picture by now I'm sure. I loved every single one of them, and it literally made me sick when we lost one for whatever reason. I've since grown up and married. We have two dogs now, and don't really have room for any.
Old habits die hard, I suppose. Great column.
Martha,
You sound like me, I got a mental picture of a woman trying to help an animal out of ultimate danger and harm. I have done that off and on for 30 yrs.
I have run a non profit, free range rescue that long, many times in the last few years I've said I'm retiring, as I'm not getting younger, (But my heart won't allow retiring, ) Some animals come to me close to death abused ect, one look into their souls and I'm a gonner!
The eyes are the soul of the animals in which we see their hearts.
I'm also an activist for animals in which I have been fined for rescuing abused animals, Guess I didn't want to go through red tape for fear that animal wouldn't make it.
Well I'd get the animal treated and adopted out before court so the fine was worth paying knowing the abusers would never get it again, Saying your Honor with all due respect I'd do it again.
The abusers never showed at court that should have said something about the demeanor, and pictures of before and after went unused as evidence.
I belive thats why God put me here as he knew I would go the extra mile for those without a voice!
At the moment we have:
2 Bunnies: with a lovely bunnnie bungalow, roomk to romp and all the goodies nature would ladden them with( they share their residence with Chippy Chipmunk, and now his new wife. They eat and play and sleep together.
3 Dogs: 1 Silky, 2 Shelties long stories on these guys.
18 Cats: they have a huge enclosure to enjoy the outside, they can come in and out, they also have a pet apaprtment with feline furniture
Well I guess I've blown my horn enough better go before I start listing names LOL!
Sincerely
Robin-Lynn Thurston

I just wanted to share this story with every one. I had once had a puppy that I Loved very dearly named Rex. Rex was a sweet puppy but soon caught the Parvo and died on me. I never wanted a puppy or dog again. Until one day when I was much older and a friend of my Mother's thought I needed a dog. He met me at my Mother's and gave to me the best thing in life, that was Lacye. Lacye is Australian Shephard & English Sheep dog. She suddenley became my best-friend. I started to notice alot of changes in myself after getting her, and my whole attitude began to change. If some one would have told me 6 months prior that I'd have a dog that big in the house, I'd have told them that they was crazy. She has been such a pleasure and has brought so much joy to not just my life but the life of a senior citizen that is my Mother. Last week Lacye ran off for the first time. She's my whole world & Mom's. We found her 2 hours later down the road playing with neighbors dog's. I only hope and pray she never does this again. Cause, she is my BEST-FRIEND!
Janie
My grand-daughter found 2 puppies at a creek. They were wet, cold, and scared. She brought both home. They are chow-shepherd mix.Our other 2 dogs had died 6 years ago,and we did not want any more dogs. She gave the female to a man that wanted her for his grandson. Our grand-daughter went by to check on her a month later. He had decided he didn't want her,and she was staying in an alley. My grand-daughter brought her home again. The man had abused her.It took 9 months for her to stop being scared of anyone other than our grand-daughter.We put up a new fence and kept both dogs. They are great and words can't explain the happiness they have brought to our grand-daughter.She also has 2 cats that she rescued. She treats these pets like humans. They are the best pets anyone could have. She is always looking for an animal to rescue. Her parents gave us custody of her when she was 1.She's 13 now and is totally responsible as a pet-owner.
This story is a little different that the stories here, but it is sad. I had three black labadors and a catahula. I had a mean neighbor down the road from me and he was mad at his neighbor behind him because their dogs barked all the time, he couldn't get to their dogs so he decided to kill mine. My dogs where sweet dogs and didn't boughter anyone. We live on a river and everyone here has hunting dogs, well the man that killed my dogs was the mayors brother, anyway I joined a main shelter and the mayor quit his job, but anyway the end of the story is that God sent me two strays that are mixed chow and something, but they have the best friends for me since I lost my beloved pets.
Our story is kind of like to. We found a puppy under our car it was scared we brought it in to our home. We also looked for the owner. My landlord told us we could not keep it. I lived in small town and gave her to some one that lived 50 miles away. The dog was back the very next morning and our Landlord told to keep it. We took it to a vet where we learned it was a girl we had her for 18 years. She died on December 5 2006.
How Bittersweet this story is.In August of 2007, (last August) A friend of mine and her husband found 2 little puppies that someone had thrown in a Ditch during a severe Thunderstorm.A boy and a girl. They took them to the Vet and had them checked out. They were fine. Wet and scared, but fine. They were only about 3 weeks old and only weighed 2 pounds each. They found a home for the little boy, and my husband and I decided to take the little girl. ( we had already raised 4 Wonderful Dogs to very old ages and one by one they had passed on. ) We had gotten 2 Adorable kittens when our last Dog passed away 2 years ago, and I had said no more Dogs. But the minute Lori brought her over, We fell so much in Love with her. She didn't even know how to drink water on her own. I taught her Everything and had to cook certain foods for her every 3 to 4 hours for 2 and a half weeks. Then she could eat wet Puppy Chow mashed with a hand potato masher every 3 to 4 hours for another 2 weeks. Then Finally one day she started eating her Puppy Chow dry. I stood there and cried and said " Thank You Lord " Yes it was hard work and I am 60 years old and deal with Chronic Health Problem every day, But it was worth it. You should see her now !!! " Maggie" is 5 and a half months old and weighs 48 pounds. Our Vet thinks she is half German Shepperd and maybe half Doberman. She is Beautiful and very smart. I really believe God sent her to us. And I wouldn't trade her for the World. And as the Years go by and we get old together I Will Thank God every day for giving Maggie to us.
did u ever find him or give a homeless dog a new home all i can fantastic for people like u i saw a program where had these guy,s in prison and they took dog,s that had problem.s and retrained and it eas great it helped the prisoner and the dog,s there doing it alot of state,s maybe if they took dog,s and give them to the kid,s who where going to get in trouble and other kid,s who had problem,s to help these dog,s they could also learn from the dog,s and there would be less people prison and and learn from there mistake,s
I found a dog not too long ago. the dog i had got hit with a car last summer. Comming from church one Sunday i found a b;ack dog that was in a abandin area. got to looking at him i seen he only had three legs. I could just left him there. i knew no one would want him or he would die. He was a friendly dog. I know how he felt only having three leg, because i have some disablitiesand not able to work amymore. I thought if he can make it on three legs, i can make it with my problems as well. his name is Lucky because of where i found him.
Good for you! More animals need people - or vice versa. We had a black male cat show up around my house and try and hang around with my cats. They tolerated him. He was so hungry he would rip open the garbage bags to eat any remaining cat food and other table scraps. I had to feed the poor thing, and I wanted to adopt him but my Mom said no, even though I am financially independent (but live in their house), as we already had 3 cats. She demanded he go the the SPCA. I felt like a heel as I coaxed him into a crate with food. I was really upset to see him go, as he seemed so very friendly, at least to me. And, then, since I am an only child, I made a LOT of fuss and Mum agreed to let me adopt him. I went to the SPCA but was unable to collect him for about a week and a half. They said he was pretty aggressive, and no one could pick him up. At this I got nervous, and asked to see him to make sure I could handle him. The volunteer scootched him into the room on all fours holding him around the midsection. She said he'd tried to bite her as she was getting him out of his cage. I called to him and he came right over to me, talking to me and standin on my leg and rubbing all over me. I scooped him up and draped him over my shoulder. I thought the volunteer's jaw would hit the floor she was so astounded. But apparently, I am his person. He's so very bonded to me. Both my Mum and Dad got to like him very much, as he's VERY responsive. And when my Mum passed away very unexpexctedly a few weeks later, he's been a comfort to both Dad and me. But he's definitely MINE. We call him Mickey, but he's got us trained exactly the way he wants us. And Himself thinks he's the sexiest thing on four feeties. He gave us a really good distraction from our grief. Not that the other cats weren't - we got two of our other three from a kitty we adopted from a shelter. She hadn't been at the shelter long, apparently, and came to us pregnant. It was the best thing for my Mum, who'd just had heart surgery, and she was my Dad's cat totally. We kept two of her four kittens, and they were a total comfort to us when she was hit by a car and killed a year and a half later.
hayee,
i really really love critters alot!
it has even made me wonder about if i had created dogs, would i have been able to let my son be born as a dog and killed by 'good' dogs in order to redeem all the 'bad' dogs
of the earth.
i don't think i could have done it!

It was a cat at our house....a stray cat made its way down into the far corner of our basement (under the oil tank). We don't know how long he may have been there, but we found him the Saturday after Halloween 2007. We already have two cats and tried to let it loose and go back to from where it came. But he bit my partner so we had to keep him for the 10 days. (All was well.) We went up and down two streets of our immediate neighborhood with a picture of the cat and no one had seen him before. That was the end of October. We had him fixed, tested for contagious feline diseases and vaccinated. He was a very timid cat and it's January now and he's still at our house looking healthier than ever. While he is fine with his human family, he still is not on "friendly terms" with the other cats, and still lives in the basement, afraid to come upstairs. But we've stopped looking for another home for him and figure he was meant to come to a home where there is love for cats. We'll work with him and the other cats and hope they can reach a peaceful place of tolerance for each other. Had I taken him to the pound, he may not have made it since there are so many stray cats and not enough homes who want them.
I cant believe the animal control shot the sweet dog that seemed to mind her own business! I have too several times feed and tried to make friends with wild cats and dogs...with no prevail.
The sweet girl you helped will be waiting for you in the heavens. Im sure at that time she will not be so timid, and will be all yours because of your care and concern!
I can tell that you are all pet lovers as we are, so I'd like to post this http://theanimalrescuesite.com and you click once a day free of charge, to feed poor animals who have been recued.it's a wonderful way to help.
My wife Jean had a small poodle when we met in June of 1967 so I knew she liked dogs and I tried to get her to get another one when her poodle finally got old and died. She kept putting off geting another dog until one day my daughter Janet told her about a place nearby called Last Chance. This was I suppose an extension of the pound. Anyway my wife and her daughter went there and saw the cutest little black dog and my daughter tried to get her mother to take it home but all she got from her mother is "Well I don't know" Two teen age girls came in and saw that dog and agreed to take it whereupon my wife told the clerk, we were here first and I want that dog. We have had Molly now for about 5 years and even though she is blind in her right eye, she is the best natured dog we have ever owned. She will have a home with us for the rest of her life.
Story gave me the chills!!!!
I too saved a puppy that was living in poor conditions.
It has now been almost 6 years ago.
I spoiled it like a child and now the huge monster still wants me to carry it, or plops onto my lap.
I now have a 3year old daughter that loves that dog to death.(his name is mijo)
I knew it was hard for my mother to accept the dog in our home, but thank god she said i could keep it.
You would be supprized how humanly animals can be.
We talk to him as if he might one day talk back.
He understands everything we tell him too. We since then have moved to the city and left him there to take care of my mother. But we cant wait for vacations to go visit him.
My mom gets a little jelouse because i run out and give him hugs, then go inside to tell everyone else hello!!!
So, they shot the poor dog, even though it was being cared for by someone who was attempting to tame and give it a home. Proof yet again that animal control isn't about the animals, it's about the control. My heart goes out to you.
It's kind of funny to see this article this morning. Last Friday, when I got home from work, my daughter, who was visiting us, met me at the car before I even got into the house. She informed me that, once again, she was in the process of saving another animal. She's done this more than a few times. She was in our living room when she heard someone "knock" on our front door. When she went to see who it was, there was a black lab. on our front porch. The dog went into our front yard to show us that there was another dog, a Chihuahua, in our yard, freezing. The temperatures were hovering in the teens at the time. She immediately brought the dog into the house and gave it to my wife, who wrapped it up in a blanket to get it warmed up. The dog was in some need of attention, but seemed to get better as it thawed out. The black lab. disappeared as my daughter went back out to find it. We took care of the dog overnight and the next day, a young lady saw my son taking the dog out to use "the tree" in our yard and said that it was her dog. My wife explained what had happenned and the lady said that her husband had let the two dogs out to go before he went to work and forgot to let them back in before he left. Surely, the little one would have frozen to death if we had not found it and taken it in. She agreed and said that the larger dog usually does knock on their front door when he's ready to come back in, so she didn't doubt that he did that at our house to save the smaller one. She thanked us for saving her dog and said that he was going to be a father soon and for saving him, we could have one of his puppies. That helped make my son's day better as he was very sad to have to have given this dog back. Now, we are waiting on a new litter of puppies in order to get a "replacement" for the life we saved. God does work in mysterious ways sometimes.
I have prayed this morning that Jesus would place a love in my heart for the puppy that my granddaughter apparently loves very much. She doesnt live with us any more and i am left to love and care for her puppy. She loves this little dog and I must love him too to care for him. He is always under my feet and he cries for her.
You are marvelous. I watched your show faithfully and do wish it never ended.
What a wonderful story and hope that people believe in God as much as you and I do and not in fate alone. Every living thing needs a chance in life. Being only a puppy, you did the right thing. Proud of you Mrs Williamson. This I would have done myself, in fact, many years ago, my ex-husband and myself had a car and truck repair business. One morning on our way to work there was this dog lying in the street not moving. So, naturally just as you did we stopped and picked up this dog who was really injured. It was a total shame that no one stopped or picked up the poor dog after being hit. We took the dog to the vet. After examining the dog, the vet told us that she would lose the sight in one of eye that after some rest in the center we could come and pick her up. At that time noone one responded to our ads or posters so we kept this poor deserving dog a home. Turned out she was the most lovable, smart, Little Queenie, that we named her. The vet had told us she was a miniature German Shepard. You couldn't ask for a better dog. Thank you for all your stories and keep them coming when you can.
WHAT AN AWESOME STORY. I OWN AN OLD DOG THAT WAS SEEN BEING THROWN OUT OF A MOVING VEHICLE. I ALSO FED A STRAY DOG THAT LIVED UNDER A BRIDGE IN NOLANVILE.THIS DOG NEVER EVER HAD HUMAN CONTACT AND WOULDNT LET A HUMAN GET CLOSE TO HER BUT SHE KNEW THE SOUND OF MY TRUCK AND WOULD PEEK HER CUTE LITTLE HEAD UP FROM THE TALL GRASS SHE SLEPT IN TO SEE WHERE I WAS PUTTING HER FOOD. I FINALLY NAMED HER BRIDGET AFTER FEEDING HER FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. WHEN THE WEATHER STARTED GETTING CHILLY, I PUT BLANKETS UNDER THE BRIDGE FOR HER ... SHE STARTED GETTING TO THE POINT WHERE SHE WOULD LET ME GET A LITTLE CLOSER AND CLOSER TO HER. I BEGGED THE ANIMAL CONTROL TO LET ME HAVE A CHANCE WITH HER CUZ THE WERE TRYING TO TRAP HER. BRIDGET WAS SO SO STREET SMART. SHE CROSSED THE HIGHWAY BACK AND FORTH FOR MONTHS AND NEVER CAME CLOSE TO CREATING AN ACCIDENT. SO MANY PEOPLE FROM NOLANVILLE GOT TO KNOW HER AND TOTTALY LOVE THIS GIRL. SHE JUST WOULDNT TRUST HUMANS. WHEN THE ANIMAL SHELTER PUT OUT A TRAP FOR HER, SHE MOVED ACCROSS THE STREET AND SLEPT IN A FIELD WITH NO SHELTER. WHEN I WENT TO DELIVER HER THANKSGIVING DINNER [THE DAY AFTER TURKEY DAY] SHE WAS IN THE FIELD AND AND HEARD MY TRUCK PULL UP...SHE STOPPED DEAD IN HER TRACKS ..LOOKED AT ME..AND STARTED JUMPING AND PLAYING WITH SOMETHING. THROWING IT IN THE AIR AND THEN POWNCING ON IT..STOPPING TO SEE IF I WAS WATCHING HER AND THEN CONTINUE TO SHOW OFF SOME MORE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THAT WAS THE LAST TIME I EVER SAW BRIDGET BECAUSE THE NOLANVILLE ANIMAL SHELTER HAD GONE DOWN TO THE FIELD AND SHOT HER SINCE THEY COULDNT CAPTURE HER. I HAVE BEEN DEVASTATED EVER SINCE. I CANT EVEN COME HOME AND DRIVE UNDER THAT BRIDGE WITHOUT SHEDDING A TEAR AND MISSING MY FRIEND. I NOTICED YESTERDAY THAT THEY FINALLY TOOK HER BLANKETS FROM UNDER THE BRIDGE. I HOPE THEY AT LEAST HAD ENOUGH HEART TO GIVE IT TO THE OTHER ANIMALS AT THE SHELTER. [BY THE WAY, BRIDGET WAS SO SMART, IT TOOK HER NO TIME AT ALL TO LEARN HER NAME AND NO MATTER WHAT 4 CONNERS OF THE HIGHWAY I WAS ON,..WHEN EVER I CALLED HER NAME...SHE STOOD UP TO LET ME KNOW THAT SHE WAS THERE. I TRUELY MISS HER SO MUCH EVEN THO WE NEVER HAD ANY CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER..SHE WILL BE IN MY HEART TILL THE DAY WE MEET AGAIN.
.......I LOVE YOU BRIDGET...
" THE MOMMY YOU NEVR TOUCHED BUT FELT "
it is a wonderful thing you did...One animal saved is an awesome thing....thanks again for showing compassion..hugs to you and your family and a kiss to charlie from an animal lover...Sabrina..
Something similar happened to my daughter. After searching frantically for the owner, the puppy was so cute that we couldn't give her away. The problem was that we already had a dog and not enough room for all of us. Well the puppy grew to a beautiful mixed breed. She is very loving, smart, assertive, playful, perseverant and so many other wonderful traits. This might sound crazy, but God has taught me so many things through this dog, especially how to deal with difficult people (my other dog didn't like her); she has given me the best un-biased training in human relations and example of humbleness I have ever received.
I thought that was a wonderful thing that you did. So many people just walk on by and do nothing.
I had gone to visit a friend in the country and saw this scruffy, dirty, mangled little dog walking the country road barely being missed by a truck in front of me. I initially passed up the dog, but after a few feet I suddenly hit my brakes, opened my door and was there the little dog was. Well she climbed into my car across my lap and sat in the front seat like she had been there all along. Well, I can proudly say that "Sassy" has been with my husband and I for the past 6 years. She is an assest to our home. My husband and I had just found out the day before Sassy came into our lives that we could not have children of our own. Sassy has replaced that void. We both lover her dearly. God does work in mysterious ways.
That was a great story. I had something similar
happen with a cat. I almost never walked to work.
One day I did and in front of a restaurant I saw
this frightened cat huddling behind some flowers.
It obviously was an indoor cat someone had dropped
off. Three of us were standing there I insisted some-
one take the cat. The two of us could not because
we were going to our jobs however the other woman
took it home.
I had a little dog named Gus, I had him for ten years. I lived in a apartment and the landlord was a female bully. When I tried to move out, little Gus got very sick and died, and I know she poisioned him. I took him to the vet and the did everything but he died. He went through so much with me, and I could not save him. He is the only one who never left me through many illnesses. I am disabled, and my life is very hard. I was alone and did want another dog. I ended up with a toy teacup terrier, toy teacup chihuahua. I named him Chi chi. He is not Gus, but he is a loving little puppy, full of all the cute little things I had forgotten about. Just once in awhile he does something that Gus would do, and I have to wonder. I still miss Gus very much, and I hate that I lost him. But Chi Chi and I are making a little progress. I have learned he cannot fill Gus"s shoes, but that is ok, he has his own. Ellen Backy
I think it is wonderful that you took the time to think about and to take the time out to help the little puppy. I feel that if more people would do that and not think of themselves, that God would be more pleased with us. We should all do that with people as well. Remember that we don't know if we will ever be in the same situation and need somesone's help. God bless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I already e-mailed, but am not sure if it went through, so am e-mailig again. God does work in very strange ways, and I do really believe he put you on that very road that little "Charlie" was on at that very same time. It was a very good deed that you did when stopping to pick up "Charlie". It may be that little "Charlie's owner isn't around anymore or can't take care of "Charlie" anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if you don't find another owner for "Charlie" because he is with his owner, or owners, and that's with you and your family. God had a plan for "Charlie" and you were in his plans as well. So good luck to you all. I'm also a animal lover. So good luck to you and your family plus one.

Charlie is a sweet name for a dog. I have 3 very special cats, my husband named the oldest one Stupid Kitty, the second one Crazy. The 3rd My son named Socks. Yes, I believe God may have put Charlie in your path for a reason. My 2 oldest cats are my hubands, and will have very little to do with anyone else. (regardless of what he named them he spoils them horribly) About a year ago I was very sick. My husband was unable to take off work to be with me so I had to stay alone until he came home in the evening. Stupid Kitty & Crazy kitty curled up on the bed, one on each side of me. And there they stayed until my husband came home in the afternoon then, off they went. When he left for work the next motning there they were, right beside me. They had never done that before. I cant tell you how conforting it was having them there. How good it made me feel because I knew they were only there to take care of me. some how they knew I was sick and needed them. Oh yeah, its costly taking care of 3 pets, the food, vet, care for there litter box, etc. but I will never complaine. I feel God put them in my life for a reason. They will always be an adored part of the family.
I feel much happy after reading your story, it as really made my day and indeed taught me more that been kind hearted to least animal in our enviroment is part of God's love for us.
I am reading this story with my cat Missikoda laying against my leg. My best friend was getting divorced. Her husband never liked this kitty and threatened to get rid of her. I couldn't afford the deposit so her mom gave it to me. Her mom was an animal lover through and through. She gave me the money to save the kitty's life, but I feel like the big winner. Koda and her daughther Midnight provide so much love and companionship for me. I don't ever feel alone with them. I do believe that God puts his little creatures in our lives for a reason and just at the right moment. Thank you Diane for your gift to me.
Your story touched my memories of how most animals in our household came to us first leading to what God's plan was for my family and me. After getting my first house for my son and I, I went looking the animal shelters cause he has already wanted a dog and I figured him being 14 yrs. old was enough for him to start to learn the responsibilities of dog ownership.
I found a young male basset hound and remembering the times my grandmother would take my younger sister and me walking with a neighbor's basset hound, I decided our meeting was God's destiny for his adoption. That dog learned to play with my autistic son by running and jumping in the Fall leaves. It was such a time my son and the basset hound were 'raking' the leaves and playing in our backyard when the next door neighbor's pit bull dog, 'trained' in street dog fighting, pulled out of his chain, jumped into our yard and came rushing towards my son and our dog. Our basset hound came in between my son and the pit bull dog. I had been watching them play out the back window, went to the stove to finish dinner and my son came running to me to help get the dogs to stop fighting. I tried to separate the dogs, call 911 and calm my son from seeing his dog mauled. 3 neighboring men pulled off the pit bull from the basset hound's chest. Our neighbors took our dog to a vet while I went to the ER for my broken and torn finger.
My son decided to name the dog, BraveHeart because the dog saved him from the pit bull attack.
This incident led me to explore city and state laws for consumer protection against dangerous animals in our residential areas. I learned to prepare and speak to city officials to successfully change a local law to protect others from unsolicited attacks by dangerous dogs.
Though giving up BraveHeart was hard for us, the incidence led BraveHeart to be rehabilitated, due to trauma, by juvenile prisoners to become a good pet for a family with teenagers known by BraveHewart's trainer.
The incident led to another basset hound, wandering the neighborhood, coming into our family after BraveHeart left for rehab.
The incidence led to relationships with the basset hound rescue group, which found BraveHeart the rehab.
The rescue group later found a home for our other basset hound, Boomerang, who wandered into the neighborhood, when I lost my home due to job loss and financial complications.
Without God giving us the good moments, my bad moments would be even more difficult to overcome.
I came upon a lost animal also. A little cat lost in the woods by a hiking trail. Other people saw her and even petted her. I couldn't leave her alone so I picked her up and carried her about a mile to home. I was unemployed for a year when I found her. A week ago I got a job. I wonder if Mickey the cat and God had anything to do with that. Mickey has some health problems according to the vet. They say that she has damaged kidneys, from living in the wild, but since everyone has two she should be alright with a little extra care. It's been hard on the finances, but she is so loving and cute.
Being the oldest of two children from a single parent home. Which happen to be position as a corner house. After cutting the lawn one beautiful summer's evening. Leaving from the garage; I happen to see a lovely white Shih Tzu that happened to have been hit by an automobile. To my unbelief the vehicle keep going; and don't stop. The poor defenseless animal had a broken leg. I placed the doggie in a medium sized box; and took it in the house. I then phoned the Humane Society; but unfortunely they weren't of any assistance. The next morning I was awaken by the beautiful dog drinking the water that I had provided. With big dark brown eyes gazzing up at me with a silver dog collar as big as day. I took the dog to it's home. The owner was so pleased that she send a Thank You Card to show her appreciation. I would've wanted the same in return. I felt it was my obligation to not just the dog; but the entire family. As well as The Lord; because he asked man to name the animals of the land so therefore we're responsible for their well being as well.
god wanted you and your family to have charlie still look for his rightful owner but if no one owns up to him .claim him as yours and love him to the end of time,
God has placed on my heart and given me the a silent vision to Ministry to "Broken Women" starting in the year 2008. Well I am packing this week to go to a Homeless Shelter for Women. It is Located here in Lafayette AL. God does have a purpose and a plan for our lives. I prayed all month long here i am God send me.HE HAS DONE JUST THAT! This is the the power of a prayer.
Yes, I've said for many years that "God loves what He made" and that certainly includes the only creatures capable of unconditional love, our pets and all animals in general. I now have 1 big dog who is my "son" and 6 wonderful tempermental cats. I lost 3 cats and my other dog baby over the last 3 years, and my mother last year. I can truly say that my faith in God and the precious pets He sent me have kept me going through the sad times.
After reading about your sweet experience, I am reminded of the beginning, when God made the animals first, and then placed Adam and Eve in the garden and gave them charge over them, to name them and care for them and their habitat. I believe they have great worth in the eyes of God. How wonderful is His creation and creatures! I love and care for many animals here in the country and have rescued quite a few. Each one has a very different personality and the mysterious ability to love us in return. Even my chickens and ducks glorify God in their very existence here in this simple place. They live for the moment, love for the moment, instantly forget and forgive. What a lesson for us!
I'm glad you did what you could for the puppy. My concern is about your statment about aligning your will with His. In the statement you imply that some times things come out better when you do it your way instead of God's way.
Hi Martha
You named him Charlie...?
God does work in mysterious ways. He has helped me greatly in the last few months more than i could have ever imagined.
You helped that dog because you could. Hope you find his family if not then he is for you.
I have seen some of the Touched by an Angel episodes & miss the show. I'm hoping that it'll be repeated in the UK.

I am hearing impaired. My husband died September 17, 2007. Is it possible to receive text concerning LOST A LOVE ONE? I use closed caption when watching TV. I always enjoyed TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL and wish that it would continue to be on TV. Thanks for any help that you can give to people that are hearing impaired. I gave you my home e-mail address. My work e-mail address is cambridge@uindy.edu --Carolyn Cambridge
I truly enjoyed reading about this and it gives me hope for the human race. When I was little, all types of animals would come to me, and I mean all types. My dad use to tell me that God made me one of his earth angels for his creatures and that I would always take care of his creatures. I have learned to set legs, deliver babies, clean up animals, retrain them to trust humans again, and find homes for them. Right now, I have a little dog who is also a caretaker of others and allows other animals into his backyard. He watches over those that need a little food, some rest, a temporary home for their young. I feed them and at night we have racoons and possums come to eat as the area around us is being used for homes and they are running out of space to live. We also have all types of birds and squirrels. I never look for any animal as it seems like they always find me. Maybe my dad was right, maybe God's path for me includes taking care of his creatures that he put on the earth before he put us here.
Aw! That was so sweet to read!
Yes, that was so kind of you to stop and help the poor little animal that would certainly have been killed.
A little animal brings joy to the family, cheers the spirit up and warms the heart, and seems that now it was your family that has just been granted with these blessings!
Nartha,
I loved TBAA. I miss that it is no longer on the air. I used to watch the re-runs on Pax TV, but that station no longer exists, either. Are you considering a TBAA reunion?
I think your sweet stories made a HUGE difference for the better in the lives of many people.
The story about this puppy is lovely, as well.
God is amazing he put you at the right place to save this puppy.
I have a kitty cat that found me about 5 years ago now. She should up with several other cats, but my cat was different, she was wearing a collar so I know she must belong to someone. My neighbor put food out every day for the cats & birds.(with complain from other neighbor) and my cat should up every day. So I started giving her some milk she was so small at the time. Then one day she should up with a baby kitten. They were 4 in all. I don't know were she had them but there they were. So any way I started buy food and feeding her. I'm still thinking she belong to some one so I didn't want to take her in.
Six months later my husband was diagnosed with lung cancer. and the cat had another litter of 4 kitten under our porch. My husband died a month later and I had to move after my husband died and the place I was moving didn't except pets that cat & kittens were going to be homeless so I took then to the local animal shelter. I was in tears I felt so bad she had been with me during the hardest time in my life. So a week later I couldn't get Frances out of my mind so I went to the landlord's and asked them about having a cat and they said that I could have one. So I went right down to the shelter and made arrangement to have her spaded and get her shots. I pick her up a few days later and she mine. I know God had sent her to me all those years ago to help me with my up coming grief. God has done so many wonderful things for me in these years since my husband die. Thank you God.
"Charlie" was very fortunate to have your family rescue him in his time of need. I hope he finds his family, whether it is yours or his first one.
My family also took in a stray puppy. She had wandered into the Middle School where my husband worked and hid in the girls bathroom. She was in rough shape. You could see all of her ribs and hip bones, she was covered in a heavy coat of fleas, and she had a bloated belly from roundworms. My husband called me up and told me to come down with some food for her. I took her home, gave her a flea bath, and took her to our vet. There she got her first set of shots and medicine for the worms. I checked with the vet to see if anyone had reported her missing. No luck. I checked the local papers for a week. Again, no luck. She is a part of our family now. She has gone from a scrawney 36 lbs. to a healthy 115 lbs. She is our gentle giant and we love her dearly.
What a neat God we serve! My morning Scripture reading was the story of Moses. As I journaled I began really seeing how many little details God took care of to spare Moses' life and have him exactly where he needed to be. It's amazing how great God's timing is.
About 11 years ago I sat down in the living room on a Saturday night and decided to do a little channel surfing. As a sophomore in high school, free time to watch an uninterrupted TV show by myself was rare. I saw Joe Penny and immediately stopped (he's always been a favorite actor of mine). Before I knew it I was enthralled with the show. I had purposely decided to avoid anything relating to the whole angel craze, but I was too interested in the story to flip channels. That night I realized for the first time that television could actually be used to share God's love. I became quite the fan of Touched By an Angel..in fact I have a rerun of it on now..and I began to consider a career in Christian media. One tiny detail led to another (I could spend all day listing them!)and I ended up getting a Masters of Communication in religious drama and broadcast (just before the program was nixed). I've now had the opportunity to travel the world acting and directing in a professional Christian drama team. I had to write a thesis that turned into a devotional/study book for Christian artists. Now I am just waiting on the next adventure God leads me to be a part of!
It's amazing how God takes the littlest details and crafts our lives and the lives of those around us. Martha, thanks so much for all you allow God to do through you. You're willingness to follow has made all the difference in my life. How amazing it is what God can do through our simplest acts of obedience!
Thank you Martha for sharing something that most of us would think was somewhat insignificant when compared to what the world would have us believe is the "big picture".
Sometimes most of us are too busy looking for the really big things of God and we fail too see or hear Him in the really small things...like a still, small voice. If the Father has ordained His desire to know when a sparrow falls to the ground, who can say that the little things are less important, perhaps they are more important! It takes a deeper sensitivity to the Spirit of God to recognize what is so often hid from so many. Your saving Charlie, may be the Father's instrument that He uses to save you or one of your loved ones! Be assured, this was not coincidence, but Providence, he has entered your life for a reason!
