Dear Martha, I enjoy listening to your words of encouragement. They're a blessing to all of us. I found this passage in the word of God, and I want to share it with you. 2 Peter 1: "5But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, 6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, 7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love." Many of us expect to receive love, and we give a list of reasons why we should, but we don't stop in the middle of our daily chores to make a phone call to a dear one; we don't stop doing what we're doing to visit someone who feels lonely or in need and provide for them somehow relief or support. We forget to pray for those around us, much less we are going to pray for those who we don't know. And, because we are filled with daily routines in our lives, we cant't see what we need in our lives. Faith in God is a gift; and, with it comes the expectancy of God to make an effort to add virtue, and knowledge, and self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness and finally love. There are many steps to learn, and each one of them takes time in our lives. We can't get to love if we haven't learned perseverance and brotherly kindness. And, it all depends on us how fast or slow we learn. I understand that we are to be malleable in the hands of the Lord and be willing to accept this process. And, let the Lord do His will in our lives. It's when this process has come to an end that we've learned what God means of love in us. I'm willing to learn because I came to the conclusion that the kind of love that I have for others is not as close as the one God wants me to have and give. So, I've opened my heart to see more of God in me, so I can learn what love is and share it with others. God bless you.

Love to me is my "Nana" who loved everyone unconditionally. Though she was at times, taken advantage of by others, even after her death, her loving ways paved a way for all of us to CHOOSE love over being like the world. Her ways and heart for God and others ....

I found out what love really was when I found out the difference between by previous boyfriend Jason and now my husband of 15 years.
When my ex-boyfriend told me he loved me was when he said "I love you like these four walls".
When my husband tells me he loves me which I hear once a day every day, I know he loves me dearly and deeply and loves me for who I am and not for the things I do for him on a daily basis because in August 1999 he was made disabled.

SHE IS VERY SMART AND SEEMS TO KNOW WHEN WE NEED ATTENTION. LOVE IS WHEN THIS PUPPY COMES AND PUTS HER HEAD ON MY LAP AND LOOKS UP AT ME AND HER EYES ROLL BACKWARDS AND SHE LICKS HER LIPS. Love is when your wife decided not to have sex with you seven years prior and moves into another room for no reason at all ,and yet you stop at her door every morning and look in on her to see if she is all right ,and you hang in there and don't yield to infidelity.
I am 45 years old with a son that is 5 years old whom I love so much..I have raised my son alone..I have put no other in front of him..I have a companion that I am talking to again..The last time we were together it was so different..I knew something was there..He is comming to town next week for a couple of days and is staying with me and my son..He and I are tired of being alone and know there is a spark between us..I love this man and want things to work out..am I going to fast
Love is what my friend's 5 year-old-son told her when she asked him how much he loved her. This is the conversation:

They got a divorce,But he still torments her,by calling her.

I have not listened to this email until this morning I guess the Lord meant me too wait. Last night on the Hallmark Channel I watched an episode of "Touched By An Angel" and it was the episode about what Love truly is all of the angels were working in an upscale restrant and a few couples were there it was Valentines Day. I am sure you remember it. The couple that was suppose to fall in Love again were the owners. I would have to say it was a real eye opener for me. Andrew approuched the couple that were having dinner and it was their 49th anniversary and he had told them that one of them would not be around for the 50th and the gentleman at the end stood up and spoke about what LOVE truly means.
I guess what I am trying to say that after 15 years I seemed to have forgot what the true meaning of LOVE is and all that goes with it sacrifcing, loving unconditionally, accepting of the other one, standing by the other one no matter what.
Something seemed to change over those years lives stresses, differences, ect. maybe my husband and myself could be those owners of the restraunt and fall in love all over again and stop what we are doing to each other. Let go of the past, all the anger, resentments and everything else that has happened and get to the point that we were at previously were everyone wished that they had a relationship as we did. I wish he had watched it with me.

Be to others what you would want for yourself. It's usually your 1st inclination to anything, if you are in touch with the inner being of who you are, want to be, meant to be, daily. Love is God, inside each of us, with no denials.
He made us in His image! It's pure, simple, common sensed and dang, doesn't it beat all!!!

Love surrounds us everyday. I am half way through the book God Stories: Inspiring Encounters with the Divine. The stories inside show us that God's love is manifested in the ways he can communicate with us. Since my grandfather passed on Memorial Day I have found these stories to be a reminder that he loves just as he did when he was living.
These stories are a wonderful collection of real experiences of real people.

I have gone back to college and spend ALL day at school, and many hours at the computer doing my homework. Love to me is when I have had a long day, and I get home and my husband has cooked my favorite meal and did the dishes!!
Love is the feling I get when I am feeling the holy spirit coming to me. In times of usual happiness knowing that he is there with me.
Love is waiking up next to the person that share your life and acept you with all your decitions even if they are not the right ones,love is that person that see you in the eyes and there is no need to said "I love you",because already your heart will fill it.Love is when your kids comes to hug you and even that you have been grumpy from been tired ,you said "I am so sorry" and they tell you "Is ok, mommy, I love you". Love is why we are here, love is the sun that fill you when is shinning,love is the friend that is next to you when you most need it and when she most need you.
Love is letting go of the man or woman you are so in love with because it is the right thing at the time and finding them after 20 years unexpectedly only they are very sick and now able to be with you because they are free. You find that this person really is so in love with you and you with them. You find that their illness has no basis for your love and you would accept them regardless anyway because that bond is so strong and that love is so perfect. Yes, that is what happened to me and I would not have traded 2 months with my soulmate and love for a thousand loves because they were the happiest although heartwrenching times of my life. His spirit is with me every day and yes there is a God and yes this was truly a Touched by an angel story. My coworkers experienced this from day to day as I work in a hospital and thats where my love arrived to spend the last days of his life and I thank God for letting me be a part of it.
Love is when your church family and friends come to your much-needed aid during an unexpected time of illness. When my husband was suddenly diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension after hernia surgery and spent almost a month in the hospital in critical condition unable to work, our church family reached out in love to us, not only giving of their time, cards, letters, phone calls, etc. One young man who worked near the hospital where my husband was, which is about thirty-five miles from home, picked me up every morning on his way to work and picked me up every evening after work so that I wouldn't have to make the trip alone. Not only that, he called every week-end to check on my husband's progress. That's love.
Once my husband came home, he wasn't to be left alone due to the seriousness of his condition. At that time, several male volunteers came to the house and sat with him while I ran errands. One member took it upon himself to keep our grass cut. Another built a ramp for our steps so that my husband could get up and down them without trouble. Members brought meals to us. During that time, we lacked for nothing. The amazing thing was that they didn't know of our needs and our Pastor didn't have to announce a word to the congregation, but because of the love, the members gave generously, supplying our every need, financial and otherwise. We are truly blessed. God is so good!

Martha, first I must tell you how very much I enjoy all that you write (& direct). In response to 'What is Love' I will attempt to be brief. Love is when you would lay down your life for the one your love if it was necessary. My husband wasn't just my love, he was my dearest friend and filled my life with sunshine and joy no matter what. Even when we faced tough times I always knew I could lean on him and he on me. Every time either of us was hospitalized the other never left their side; day or night. Love is also trying with all your might to resuscitate your loved one only to have him slip away in your arms. Now, love is continuing to work (with special needs children) just the way I know he would have wanted me to. It's not always easy but I try to carry myself in a way that will make him proud. His physical body may not be here, but I haven't a doubt in my heart that his spirit is with me always. Now he is my guardian angel and my love continues to grow day by day.
LOVE IS A SMALL WORD BUT VERY LARGE I T COVERS A MULTITUDES OF SINS.ITS WHEN YOU DO SOMETHING WRONG AND ITS FORGIVEN AND NEVER EVER MENTIONED. WHEN HE LOOKS INTO YOUR EYES AND YOU KNOW YOUR KNEES ARE BUCKLING UNDER , THAT IS WHEN YOUR COMPLETELY UNDER HIS CHARM. YOU HAVE COMPLETELY MELTED UNDER HIS SPELL. THEY ARE MANT KINDS OF LOVE FOR FAMILY AND GOD AND PEOPLE,YOUR PETS. ETC. BUT THE LOVE OF A MAN IS SO DIFFERENT IT CONSUMES YOUR EVER BEING UNTIL YOUR TOGETHER FOR ABOUT 50 YEARS. THE LORD MADE US THAT WAY. TRUE LOVE IS FOREVER WITH THE SAME FEELING THAT LAST FOREVER. WITH THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE, YOUR SOUL MATE. TOGETHERNESS THAT ALWAYS WANTS TO BE. After listening to what others feel "love is", anywhere from forgiveness, sacrifices and helping others, I would have to say I think everyone is trying to say love is expressing God's goodwill--to love, forgive, sacrifice, help and comfort those around you, family, friends and a stranger in need.
Love is understanding, patience, and respect.. Love is the only feeling which is its own cause and its own effect. Love is comforting someone in need of Love and having them know that somebody cares...Love is expressed when you are being someone who loves someone for who they are, not who you think they should be....
Love is embracing differences and discovering ways in which to build a common lifestyle, share decision-making, and taking equal responsibility for the results.
Love is looking past imperfections in your partner and seeing the beautiful person inside. True love seeks the happiness and well being of your partner. Love expresses itself in the mutual respect you demonstrate to your partner. Love is loving someone without expecting anything in return; no judgments, no restrictions; no limitations; no expectations!
To demonstrate Love. . . say, "I Love you" - outloud - at least once each day to someone you love. There is magic in these three little words. Saying "I love you" is the most beautiful gift you can give to your partner. These words are the most treasured a person can hear. To be different, say, "I Love you" in a foreign language..
love is being there for family through thick and thin. never giving up on God. He's alway with us no matter what happens. I have peace in my life,which i never have had before. true love is GOD.

What is Love? It is always is giving up yourself and activities, such as my parents had done to help me, regardless of what I may or may not have done.
Love is: Caring for your aging parents, assisting them to die with respect, dignity and love in thier own home, rather than having to die in the Hospital and or Nursing Facilities. My parents did die at home, with my mother, sister and myself pulling the night trick, having hired a male nurse to care for Dad during his last days, living with us. Thankfully, we were able to see that he died at home, during the last two months of his life. Age 91 in 1997. Mom died here in her home in 2005 at the age of 87. Love is...just as your parents had done, gave up their life to see that I was to grow up under guidance, whereas I was able to give them the same Love, in caring for them in thier time of need as they pass from this world into the next world.

What is love?
A question to be felt, possibly not explained. It’s the smile when you see them enter a room – a smile that’s reserved for just them. It’s the pleasure of a shared meal or a shared joke. It’s lying next to each other on a hot humid night ... and touching each other anyway. It’s being safe to be silly and safe to open up your heart. It’s holding each other’s hand or their hearts. It’s the sacred belief that we were meant to be together, that we’ll be better together than we would be apart. That their happiness makes you happy and your happiness reflects in their face.

Love is hard. I just had to put my beloved dog down on Saturday 7/25 after almost 13 years together. She had been with me through so much and was my very best friend. It killed me to let her go, but it killed me worse to watch her going downhill and still worrying about me! I loved her enough to let her go. It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. She gave me all her love unselfishly for almost 13 years, so it was my turn to return the favor to her. I know she is up there happy and out of pain waiting for me. I will miss her terribly, but I have peace knowing I did the right thing for her.
Love is my father hiding his pain from lung cancer to help my cousin, his nephew, make it through rehab for alcoholism. A week after my cousin moved to Texas to start a new life, my father died. We never knew how sick he was, until it was too late. It was so devastating to my cousin, that, unfortunately, he started drinking again, and we just received the news that he too, has died. Sometimes LOVE isn't enough, but you need not ever regret it,....God Bless
Love is my dad's eyes softening and shining, lighting up his face every time he saw me. Even though he has been with God for 35 years, I can still see them and feel his love washing over me, holding me.
Love for me is a verb...an action word. Love is accepting and unconditional, giving and receiving, always respecting each other, without these qualities, there is no real love.
Love for family and friends has those same qualities as love for your partner in any relationship. However, before you can learn to love another, you need to accept and love yourself. Without this self respect, you may allow others to disrespect you. That's when the other famous Shakespeare quotation comes into action "to thine own self be true."
When you love and respect yourself you understand better how to give and receive real love.

Love was my grandfather, Pop, who found nothing about me to criticize, much to praise and whose great "bear hugs" took away a world of hurt when others close to me were harsh and critical. He saved my life and gave me the courage to grow up. He's been gone over 30 years and I miss him every day - I like to think he's one of my angels, watching over me.
