I found this video to be very encouraging. I don't think this doctor is talking about cures--just practical ways to help ourselves, help our brains, encourage our loved ones in doing so. What he says makes sense.
This is the first one of the series I've watched (#4) and plan to watch more. I passed it along to my 86-year-old father who is still living at home with my 87-year-old mother (married 68 years!). They live in Ohio, I'm in Georgia--and yes, my father will get this link after checking his EMail. We got him started on the computer 10-15 years ago and he can "surf" with the best of them, researches the Internet, etc. And his mind is sharper than my mother's--who hasn't done this. My dad also works crossword puzzles. I've been encouraging my mom to read more and such--and she's been taking some "natural supplement" which is supposed to help, but she's less likely to KEEP LEARNING. I understand learning new things, not just crossword puzzles..also forges new pathways in our brains and helps keep them healthier. Makes sense! The brain is a muscle and as such--NEEDS EXERCISE!
Thanks for posting this, Martha. It's always great to learn new ways, even simple tips on how we can help ourselves and our loved ones live better lives. God bless you!
The Dr. is right about crossward puzzles helping people "exercise" their brains. It has helped me tremendously. I am 81 yrs young and work the puzzles, cryptoquips and jumbles, every day in our newspaper. I also buy books with puzzles in them. We are always told to exercise to stay healthy, so why not the brain? I think he's right on the money!!!
~~~~~~~ I have to say that this series
on AD is like an infomercial for a preventative
plan against AD. Video is too pat and flippant. Just
like those infomercials for how to lose
weight so very simply and easily. "All you
have to do is (fill in the blank)." Lies.
C'mon Martha, wake up and sniff the toast,
honey. If this 'doctor' tells you he has the
key to not getting Alzheimer's, don't you
think the CDC and the medical community
would be listening to him? Listening, as in
utilizing this tidy package of answers he
professes, so as to all but stop, if not
eradicate the AD onslaught and progression?
That is the impression given here - that he
has found the answers, so nobody will need to
have a cure!
Why isn't he at some WHO conference instead
of at a weekly Rotary with 150 people? If his
message and "research" is the essential key,
he ought to be circus barking on a bigger
platform, dontcha think?
AD is different in every patient. The prevention
and care is all trial and error. It's like if this
'doctor' were pontificating that he now knows how to
stop the structure of cancers. Nobody speaks
unequivocally on AD as much as this new hero of yours.
Many viewers trust you, with out questioning. They
follow with that blind trust. Be careful with what
you're doing here with this dissemination of information.
Anyone who is experiencing cognitive failure or is anxious
over a memory deficit needs to consult a gerontologist to
bring in the sheaves of information thrown around. Together
they can sort through it all and go from there, intelligently.
It's a tough road with no fast and quick answers or remedy.
There are a lot of maybes to be dealt with.
