Martha Williamson believes there are many times we are tempted to judge someone, but if we would just stop and really listen, we would decide to use prayer instead of judgment.

yES, Who are we to judge anybody? This was one of my biggest problems in my past, I have been asking for God's help in this very area daily. I cannot and don't know where this started? Oh yes I do, my mother was alway's judgemental and I got this from her. It is not a good thing to be passing on to my children, and I find that I have? But, I am aware of it, and I am changing it and speak with them about it almost everyday! That one thing that I can do to change their point's of view and to make no judgments before hand. Some of the nicest people I know, were people at first sight that I never would have spoken too. But they are now friends of mine today. Save judgments for the afterlife and only God has the authority to make them. Not us, not here, not now!

Dear Martha,
You just "defined" New York.
My office is on on Park Ave. and,since I walk to my residene,this exacltly what I see and hear.
You placed a Christian way to my observations. This makess it"easeier"
Thank you.
George.

Interesting! People shouldn't judge other people.

~~~~~~~ This video is a resumption of
'Pride and Prejudice' that was shown in
September, perhaps?
New Yorkers, as a whole, don't pay
attention to those around them to give
them any judgement -- much less to
pray for them. It's just the culture
and it's just the way it is. Keep
your wits about you. Don't do too
much daydreaming as a pedestrian while
you're a visitor in New York City.
You may very well get your cab "stolen."
Or, you'll simply be shoved out of the way
-- without so much as an apology -- while
you're attempting to assimilate into the
rhythm of the street beat
As is said in NY, "Eat or be eaten..." The
challenge is to be in the world, but not of
it.
I had an ad in the local newspaper for WEEKS to rent out my spare bedroom, when, on Labor Day, a woman called to inquire about it. I gave her directions, and she came over. Her clothes were somewhat dirty, and she had two black eyes. My "judgment" at first, was that she was another "druggie," like so many others I had befriended, unluckily, in the past. But as she recited her story, I found out she was homeless, had a traumatic brain injury, and epilepsy. I was still a little leery, but she said she would take the room, and proceeded to walk to the Downtown Mall and withdraw the first month's rent! I am SO glad I didn't "judge" the book by the cover, as she thoroughly cleans my condo every week, takes out the trash, vacuums, does the kitchen and bathroom floors - and even feeds my cats if I haven't gotten up early enough. The both of us live on Social Security Disability, so we have empathy and compassion for one another. Because she is a "drifter," she has told me she will leave at the end of winter, and travel elsewhere. But - she has touched my life in so many Christ-like ways, that I refuse to let first impressions tell me anything about anybody. We are ALL God's children, and we ALL need understanding.
To be honest I am guilty of the same thing. Judging people by the way the look I think today's word plays a big part in it. They show how you need to be very pretty and well dressed just to make it. I fully believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and after watching this video I fully understand what it means when they say don't judge a book by it's cover it's what's inside that counts. God Bless you and your family Martha.
Hi Martha,
I just watched your video on "The Streets of New York" and loved what you said about judging people. I believe that as well and tell people I meet that it is one of the most important things in life. Yes, people can be deceiving on the outside and it is so easy to just sit back and judge them rather than taking the time to understand that until we've walked a mile in their shoes, we have no right to judge them for we know not what thay have gone through.
It is my hope and belief that one day as each of us try to get this message as well as so many other loving and compassionate messages across to as many people as possible, we will finally live in a loving, compassionate and caring world.
You have already touched my heart in many ways and I'm sure this applies to so many others as well...
THANK YOU
Melanie
Good morning Martha,
Thanks for the gentle reminder that looks really are deceiving. I was raised by a horribly abusive step-father,and for the longest time I was convinced that everyone saw me, and the rest of the world as he did. I'm so thankful Gods not like that:) I'm just learning how kind, gentle and loving he is, and opening my eyes and heart to the way He sees me, and others. Just recently I've made a commitment to God to "assume the best" about others, instead of the worst, and it's amazing how different the world looks. I haven't perfected it by far, but if I can even do it once a day, it really makes a positive change, in my mind, heart and attitude. Giving myself and others the benefit of the doubt, being less judgemental and more forgiving is a lesson I want to learn every day. Thank-you for being so encouraging, you're videos are some of the highlights of my week. God bless and keep you.
Tammy
