In Joplin’s recent tornado, local church building did not escape damage. Many were destroyed or damaged. But those that remain standing have become a beautiful picture of faith in action. Why? These church facilities have now become shelters for those in need.

Ignite Church, a location spared in the devastating damage, has transformed into one of these temporary housing locations. According to the campus minister, “Right now, our church is more of a shelter. We opened our door last night to shelter 40 people and gave them food and clothing,” Munn said. “A lot of folks are coming here looking for lost or loved ones, but believe it or not, the mood is very positive, very helpful.”

As I like to say, the Red Cross is greater, but people living the teaching of the One who died on the cross are even more effective in many ways at meeting needs with love. Thanks to all who are helping be the church during this difficult time. Our prayers go with you and others across the nation who seek to recover from recent storms while looking to God for strength for each moment.
