The odd thing about fear is that it is usually based on an event that isn’t occurring in the present moment. Connection to our spirit and love live in the present moment, fear doesn’t. So the key to overcoming fear is staying in the moment but how do we do that when fear is screaming at us, demanding our attention?

One of the most powerful tools I have found for dealing with fear is my breath. I look at each breath as a gift of life from my spirit. The moment my spirit leaves my body it begins to decay and returns to the earth. The cycle of life goes on. When I feel fear I can take a deep breath and feel the loving embrace of my spirit or listen to the raucous voice of my mind’s endless litany of fear. The choice is mine.

I can take a deep breath, connect with the angels and pray. I can take a deep breath and think of something that brings me joy. I can breathe life into my most cherished dreams. I can breathe in love and breathe out fear.

I can breathe and give thanks for life and this precious moment. I can breathe and make the choice to let go of my fears. Moment by moment I can choose love over fear or at least let love diminish my fear.

When you open the door at night the light spills out chasing away the darkness. Love can do the same thing with your fear if you let it.
