Candlemas, Ground Hog Day and Imbolc

Candlemas is the festival of the purification of the Virgin Mary. Imbolc celebrates the reawakening of the earth and in the Celtic tradition the triple goddess has again become her virgin self. Traditionally it was a time to honor intuition, inspiration, creativity, divination and the sacred spark of life that lives within us all.

In the Northern Hemisphere the days are beginning to lengthen. Spring is not very far off. In the United States if Punxsutawney Phil emerges from his burrow in Pennsylvania and doesn't see his shadow spring like weather is imminent. If he sees his shadow winter will be around for at least six more weeks.

Paul Shirley on Haiti Earthquake - where is the love - on both sides?

ESPN has already fired Paul Shirley and it seems as though he brought the wrath of the multitudes down upon himself. Judgment abounds on both sides. I personally think his comments and the response to them is a wonderful example of the basic problem we faces as a species.

Here is the part of his blog post that most people are reacting tot:

Dear Haitians -

First of all, kudos on developing the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Your commitment to human rights, infrastructure, and birth control should be applauded.

As we prepare to assist you in this difficult time, a polite request: If it's possible, could you not re-build your island home in the image of its predecessor? Could you not resort to the creation of flimsy shanty- and shack-towns? And could some of you maybe use a condom once in a while?

Sincerely,
The Rest of the World

Magic, miracles and muses

Every time we take a breath we are given the gift of life from our spirit. The first time I had that thought I was terrified. What if my spirit, what if God decided to withdraw that gift? My terror was generated by my belief that I was my body and not my spirit and that God was less than unconditionally loving. Today I know I will live and breath until the moment I go home to the place from which all existence springs forth and that knowing brings me peace.

Life is such a miraculous gift and wonderful adventure. Some people take the time to align themselves with their spirit and connect with the celestial realms and some don't. Each day when I write my blog posts I open my heart and my mind to the angels and my muses, those spirits that inspire creativity.

Fearless Fridays: why do bad things happen

I so often hear these type of questions: "Why do bad things happen to good people? Why does God let a child die needlessly, a natural disaster kill or displace millions? Why does God allow violence? Why did God allow the earthquake in Haiti?"

Life is God's unconditional gift to us, the rest is just part of living here on planet earth and all of the events in life are incredible gifts. I believe we can use every event to either deepen our experience of oneness and our connection to the divine or enhance our filter system. A vengeful God that believes there is only one path to salvation or one that punishes people is one way to maintain our limiting beliefs and deepen our sense of isolation from the divine.

Let me explain ......

Earthquake in Haiti and Pat Robertson

I am sure the people of Haiti are surrounded by the loving presence of thousands of angels comforting and helping all beings great and small. A natural disaster like that is so overwhelming. I will hold Haiti in my thoughts and prayers.

To the best of my ability I try to love everyone and judge no one but an article on CNN is testing that resolve. Pat Robertson, who claims to be a Christian, says the Haitian people made a "pact to the devil" in the 1800' to obtain their freedom from the French. He claims the devastating earthquake in Haiti is a result of that pact. Such cruelty in the face of such human suffering goes beyond my ability to 'not judge.'

Angels and happiness

There are countless studies that show the profound relationship between attitude, spiritual connection and happiness. People that take sometime each day to pray and meditate are even happier.

Stop in the name of love

"Stop in the name of love, before you break my heart." Lately I have been really aware of how much our world could change if more of us chose love on a regular basis instead of judgment and fear.

Meaning of Christmas

Angels certainly play a pivotal role in the Christmas story. What would you do if an angel came and talked to you personally? A physical, in the flesh, so to speak, angel talking directly to you? What do you think your reaction would be?

Hanukkah and Our Lady of Guadalupe

As the days grow shorter here in the Northern Hemisphere our bodies seem to want to curl up in a ball and hibernate. Most of the major religions and earth based spiritual traditions see this as a time of rededication and new beginnings.

About Pele
Pele is the Hawaiian goddess of the volcano as well as the goddess of transformation, passion, vitality and creation. Pele is a powerful force on the Hawaiian islands. Shortly after I moved to Hawaii, a friend suggested I have my property blessed. I asked Pele if I could live and work on her land. She graciously agreed, so I always take time to thank her and ask for her blessing in my endeavors.
