Fearless Fridays: what's your greatest fear?

Aloha,

I was quite amazed when I was doing research about the top ten fears. They were: long words (that being first really amazed me), flying, clowns, heights, death, being alone, the dark, public speaking, commitment and intimacy. Of course, no matter what the fear, imagining an angel holding your hand and walking you through it is the best way I know to overcome any and all fears.

But when fear has just coming roaring up to the surface and grabbed you by the throat remembering that angels even exist is often the challenge. I would love to hear how you overcome fear in your own life. I'll share some of my favorite ways of reconnecting with inner peace, love and the remembrance that I am always surrounded by love and am safe no matter what is happening.

Fearless Fridays: fear of flying

Aloha,

I used to be terrified of flying. My fear was courtesy of my grandmother. My dad had a small plane and took me flying with him all the time. I loved it. Then he left me at his mother's house for a short time, she hated flying and by the time he came back to get me I was so afraid I threw up just at the thought of flying. It was a very messy flight home to NY from East Mckeesport, PA.

I had no idea they had all sorts of names for fear of flying including aerophobia, aviatophobia, aviophobia or pteromerhanophobia. I continued to be afraid into my early thirties. Oddly enough being on a commercial flight that almost crashed relieved me of that fear.

Fearless Fridays: Death

Aloha,

I get so many e-mails from people who are afraid of death or who are dealing with the death of a loved one. Recently, my father died and I am still dealing with the aftermath of his departure. When someone has a close family member die, people are often unsure of what to say or do. Death is part of this journey we call life. Life is, after al,l a fatal disease; no one gets out of here alive, especially if we align ourselves with our body. Our spirits are eternal our bodies aren't.

Since this week I received several e-mails from people struggling with fear of their own mortality, I decided to talk a bit about death and how to face it in a fearless manner. We have such an obsession with death as evidenced by the obsession with Michael Jackson's autopsy and Princess Dianna's death photos.

Fearless Fridays: Halloween and fear

Aloha,

When I was doing research yesterday about the history of Halloween, I found it interesting when I noticed how people seemed compelled to add fear to the mythology.  A time that was meant to celebrate the harvest and give thanks for the coming year became a time to protect yourself and your property from the dark forces. I even found a site that quoted the Bible about the need to kill witches in their attempt to generate fear and make Halloween a 'bad' thing.

Fear is a very powerful emotion and a wonderful indication that we have disconnected from our spirit. Recently I have received several  emails from readers asking me for concrete ways to overcome fear once it has taken hold of their thinking. I find this Native American story a wonderful way to deal with fear. It is a Cherokee story of the two wolves.

About Pele
Pele is the Hawaiian goddess of the volcano as well as the goddess of transformation, passion, vitality and creation. Pele is a powerful force on the Hawaiian islands. Shortly after I moved to Hawaii, a friend suggested I have my property blessed. I asked Pele if I could live and work on her land. She graciously agreed, so I always take time to thank her and ask for her blessing in my endeavors.
