Q&A: Which is the best way to remain connected?

posted by B. Dave Walters

Learn how to stay connected!

The simple answer is: TALK TO EACH OTHER!

We’ve said again and again: if you can’t communicate, you don’t have a relationship!
It’s normal to settle in to a sort of routine in your relationship; almost no one has the same relationship after one year that they had when they first started dating; and even less have the same relationship after ten years!
* However *
There’s a big difference between getting comfortable, and stagnating.
Remember, if you aren’t growing, you’re stagnating; and if you are stagnating, you are dying.

Make sure you always take time to talk to each other, even if it’s just a few minutes before bed. Talk about work, about politics, about religion, what you think about your friend’s new house or changing the wall paper; anything!
Just keep interacting with one another to make sure as you keep growing, you are growing together, and not apart.

The other thing is, date nights and other activities.
It can be hard to find time to spend alone, especially once kids enter into the picture; but work hard to find time that you all can be alone and be a couple. It may be going out to see a movie, or a dvd at home; but find some alone time at least once a week, if not a few times a week.
It’s inevitable that you both are going to change over time, keeping the channels of communication open is how you guarantee that you’ll grow together, instead of growing apart.
