(Disclosure: Obama is my pick for President in 2008).
One year ago I wrote an astrological profile of Barack Obama when it appeared he had some real staying power for the Democratic party. Previously he had been little known other than as a junior senator from Illinois and for an exceptional keynote speech he delivered at the party convention in 2004. It appeared possible that Obama was more hype than substance, but a year on the campaign trail has dispelled all notions that Obama is a passing phase.
Since then, astrologers have worked diligently to try to find a birth time for Obama. Astrology has come a long way, but not to the point where our political leaders provide birth times to astrologers. Michael Wolfstar uses the 1:06 pm birth time which presumably came from the late Frances McEvoy, but that chart, with Scorpio rising, does not ring true for me and you can find out why here. So I continue to use noon for Obama’s chart rather than take a chance with an unverified birth time.
Obama’s progressed Moon has just changed signs, entering Aquarius after a 2-1/2 year stint in hardworking Capricorn. The shift from Capricorn to Aquarius is a transition from the Capricornian hard work and discipline to the vision of Aquarius that simply opens up the mind to receive insight from the higher planes. This reflects the fact that the slogging through the campaign trail may be over, and now Obama is merely shining a light and asking people to follow. The American people are looking for not only change – they want something completely different and we see this coming to a head with the election chart in November that has Saturn in opposition to Uranus: the status quo (Saturn) being shaken off by the new (Uranus). Uranus rules Aquarius, and Obama fits right into that sense of change. In addition, his progressed Venus is exactly conjunct his progressed Uranus, another Uranian signature that shows his ability to reach out to people (Venus) of all kinds (Uranus) including independents (Uranus) and even Republicans who want change (Saturn/Uranus).
In my article last year I wrote that “[Obama] is going through a long term cycle of Pluto in square to his progressed Sun which could lead to battles over power issues (perhaps with the Democratic establishment?) and we certainly saw that take place. Currently, transiting Saturn is passing over the T-square in his chart that includes an opposition from Chiron (wounding/ healing) to Pluto (transformation) that probably squares his Moon (emotions/ emotional stability). This cycle began back in October when Obama began to fell behind in the national polls and was criticized for his gospel music campaign stop with an anti-gay musician. The second phase of the Saturn cycle occurs in February and March of ’08, with the wrapup in July. The transit of Saturn to Pluto usually creates change, and this is a time when Obama can easily embrace that change. The transit of Saturn to Chiron is more problematic as it creates an increased sensitivity that is difficult on the campaign road. There is also an increased risk of illness due to stress.
The February eclipse at Super Tuesday does NOT affect Obama’s chart where it DOES affect Hillary’s (I’ll write more on that later) which augers well for Obama’s placement there.
The most interesting time to observe Obama will be in May through September when transiting Uranus makes a stop directly opposite his Mars. This is a time of increased radical behavior and rebellious change – although Obama’s Virgo Mars tends to be rather cautious and circumspect which may keep things under control.
Obama is really the face of the new United States – he’s multi-racial, young, and appears able to have a broad appeal. He has not resorted to the kind of vicious attacks that most Americans are tired of. Some Democrats have argued that Obama would be a president like Jimmy Carter – unable to deal with the harsh realities of Washington. Carter won by the slimmest of margins: 50.1% to Gerald Ford’s 48%. If Obama can win the Presidency by a wide enough margin, he can reunite the country and force the congressional establishment to change as well.

Obama will be our next President,as you Iam a brazilian astrologer in NJ.Usa will change forever. Also pluto in Capricorn means change in the political power.Politics are saturnian with strategyst plans long term and public eye.
Hillary will have uranus hitting her moon also saturn opposing the same moon not good to be in the sympathy of the public she will be rejected by the women.edwards chart is not strong enough to deliver power in 2008.Also Ron Paul is not out of the picture for the Rep.
Anyway Demos will have the Whitehouse, and Obama will be the leader

With Uranus square Saturn on the day of the election, I think the results are impossible to predict. It will certainly be interesting

The only thing I don’t like about Obama is his allegiance to Israel, which is the source of many of our problems, starting with the vast sums we apparently send to the Israeli gov’t every week.
In short, I want politicians who put America and Americans first. To do otherwise is treason. If the public only knew..

Kieron – I don’t think Obama is that pro-Israel. I’ll find a link and post it here, but there was an article on a JDL site that questioned this very allegiance.
Pat – does Ray cite the source of his birthtime? I think it is the same one that’s been floating around but it’s not credited

Lynn,
Thanks for the writeup on Obama. He might very well win because he is a democrat, is young and different, has idealistic principles and has media support.
But what about Ron Paul? He is also offering America big changes. He is a Republican with a unique view but unfortunately lacking media support. Do you think he would have a chance to win too? I believe he is also very popular with the young, internet-savvy crowds

I love Ron Paul! I wrote about him here: http://astrodynamics.blogspot.co…s-ron-
paul.html and updated the post yesterday with a link to the Larry King interview that didn’t air.
I have to update his transits and see what’s going on for him this year, but I think he resonates as honest and has some great and fresh ideas that are so crazy they just might work.
As I wrote on my personal blog this morning, the policies of both liberals (welfare) and conservatives (trickle-down) have been a miserable failure and we need something completely different

Thanks, Lynn. You are so thorough! Sorry I missed that somehow. I supposed it might have been because back in July I was still oblivious of Ron Paul. I usually read all of your posts, though, so it must mean that at the time I wasn’t quite ready to receive the message yet. Thanks for the enlightenment — on this subject and all others

WHAT ABOUT JOHN EDWARDS
posted January 7, 2008 at 3:12 pm
Actually Joe Biden’s chart for the period of the next presidency
will be very strong. Unfortunately he had nothing happening to spark his candidacy into any forward momentum.
I ( amateur astrologer here) have pulled Obama’s chart and noting
Some aspects that will occur for
him over the next four years indicates some trouble on the good
ship lollipop. Pluto square to his progressed sun is an aspect that is
already in play and actually peaked in intensity this past November. This
has probably affected certain trans-formative changes within, in self
realizing his own growing potential and in his developing relationships. The political locomotive of his campaign reached a point of momentum where he himself began to believe that he might just pull it off. It will affect him again on the retrograde during the time of the convention which appears to
be an interesting, if not a contentious, time period for Obama. The retrograde bounce back could be a period when there is some self doubt manifesting.
A gander then is well worth the taking for the astrology of the date of the democratic convention, if Obama’s chart is any indication. Actually, a cursory look shows quite a dramatic Grand Cross in play for the start of this event. During that same time, he will also be
under the influence of Neptune opposition Uranus, Uranus opposition Mars, the Saturn opposition Chiron/conjunct Pluto aspects, and Chiron opposing his Mid-heaven. The behind the scenes maneuvering will be intense and the convention will not go as expected.
Equally as interesting for Obama is the timeframe of the general election
when his progressed Moon will be opposing his Sun, and Uranus in-conjuncts his Mid-heaven in another Yod formation along with transiting Jupiter. These join in a double sex-tile from Saturn and Jupiter to his ascendant. While not assuring the nomination or the election, it certainly portends some personal and professional career changes.
Transiting Pluto opposing his Venus is not necessarily all negative. Usually this transit is one that relates to or affects relationships of a sexual nature. Since Obama’s Venus is posited in the 8th ruling the 7th and 11th houses the
affects of this transit could manifest within his relationship with
Michelle, or even could play out with the behind the scenes big money cadre
who would begin to come into the picture more forcefully to finance the last leg of the run for the presidency. The Yod is more spiritually intense and
affects a total adjustment to Obama’s communicative and emotional response
to events. I have a feeling that if many thought that Hillary was the Spider Woman during the Clinton presidency, wait till they get a real taste of Michelle.
Even more interestingly, looking ahead to a possible Obama presidency
portends four years of difficulty and obstacles. With Saturn already well
into his 10th, the apex of his power and prestige wanes further into any
Obama 1s

(continued)
term. Any re-election bid by him in 2012 would be problematic, and
any Obama presidency could very well be for one term, since he would stand
for re-election in 2012 with Saturn in the 12th and with a number of
troubling Saturn transits in play.
The aspects already mentioned, the Pluto Yod, the Neptune opposition and
the Uranus opposition continue with the usual triple retrograde effect, like
a play in three acts, well into 2009. Decisions that he makes will
boomerang back to haunt his well intentioned desire for change. Effecting
change will not be easy, and he may well be defeated or stalled on several
fronts, exacerbating a certain confusion and desire for rebelliousness. He
may have made pacts or alliances that prove to be illusions that begin to
haunt public perception. This may also be a dangerous time for his family
and his daughters would need to be particularly well guarded, especially
through November of 2009. At that time Saturn moves to 1 degree of Libra in
his 11th house and forms a transiting T-square with Pluto on his Venus. He
will need to modify his policies or face defeat on several fronts. His
progressed Moon will also move to oppose his 10th house points and will
become especially problematic as it opposes Pluto.
All in all an Obama presidency doesn’t quite look like it would fulfill the
promise of his candidacy, or at the very least, will be a difficult and
challenging time period for him personally. It would be interesting for
Lynn to compare these aspects against the US chart for a four year
overview

Alyce – I’ve profiled Edwards here: http://astrodynamics.blogspot.co…on-
mission.html. In the next week or so I’m going to profile all of the major candidates (including Huckabee, whose chart I haven’t done yet) and see what planetary transits are in store.
Thanks Robert, for such a detailed analysis. I would be cautious using houses, however, since we don’t have a birthtime for Obama and solar houses are sadly inaccurate

Thank you for the reply. I used the 1:06 time since it has been cited by at least 6 astrologers; i.e.
Francis McEvoy as told to her by Obama
himself…http://www.observer.com/2007/

but until we see the birth certificate
it is only speculative, yes.
Your take on Edwards is excellant. His ‘uber’ Gemini makes him seem opportunistic to me indeed.
I believe that with Biden out of the picture Hillary would make the better
steward of the presidency

I see that on the day of the november election, the moon will be conjoining north node in aquarius. at this time obama has his progressed moon in aquarius but his natal north is in leo opposing this energy. Right now he is incredibly idealistic but perhaps not ready to take on washington. hillary’s north node and ascendant will be in lovely trine. the presence of saturn in virgo often portends to a female world leader – last time it was there we got margarette thatcher. with the north nodes move into aquarius we get the unexpected shake-ups but expect more because just when something feels sure, new information pops up to shock us. pluto’s movement in capricorn at end of month will bring much change to politics and government but it first brings fear and we might pull back as capricorn is cautious and not as idealistic as sag. capricorn wants the best person for the job not the one with the best customer relations. please remember that

Robert – the 1:06 pm time is said to come from Frances McEvoy, but the only source for this information is this article that you post by Michael Wolfstar. A few newsgroups supposedly reported that Ms. McEvoy relayed this birth time, but there is nothing that comes directly from her. So to me that time is extremely suspect. Plus – this birthtime gives Obama a Scorpio ascendant which makes no sense at all given his appearance and political style

Michael – obviously we disagree about the candidates, but I have to say that Saturn in Virgo doesn’t necessarily indicate the election female candidates. Margaret Thatcher may have been elected, but so were a whole raft of male politicians. When we’re looking at planetary associations we have to look at the prevalence of those associations and not just one example
posted January 8, 2008 at 9:14 pm
the presence of Saturn in Virgo doesn’t necessarily translate to many female leaders but rather to a major world player with wide influence that leads the way for more equality when Saturn moves to Libra.
Margarette Thatcher had a huge influence on not just Britain but on the entire world. and much like Hillary she is remembered with either fondness or intense bitterness. She was known as the iron lady but in a world of men, she had to be. Eva Peron was also a major influential figure when she arose from obscurity in the late 40′s and almost became vice president of Argentina but was prevented. Nancy Astor became the first woman in British parliament in 1921..
..And don’t forget Benazir Bhutto. She almost regained power but alas was prevented.
As far as the candidates are concerned, I’m still not decided. with Saturn in Virgo, the focus will be on health care and the economy. I’ve been waiting since the early 90′s for the US to catch up with Europe in regards to health care. i want a candidate whether male or female who will step up to the plate and not just win a personality contest. George W. won a previous contest and look at what it got us so now i am very cautious and skeptical.
However, when i look at the planets, i can’t help but see the emergence of a strong female leader soon and i say that without bias

Great discussion thank you all.
Am I losing more of my mind, or is Uranus opposing (!) Saturn 4 November 2008?
I’m wondering if younger voters will turn this election into something different, daresay fresh
