Mercury/Pluto in the news

posted by Lynn Hayes | 7:45am Thursday July 10, 2008

Mercury has been approaching an exact opposition to Pluto which is exact today, and we are seeing its influences all over the news. Mercury rules communication and the transmission of information, and when it faces off with Pluto we suffer from communication difficulties (like my email going down this morning), aggressive communications and the uncovering of one’s secret feelings.

In the news today, the rhetoric between the US and Iran continues to escalate, with the US threatening retaliation for Iran’s missile tests and Ahmadinejad dismissed dismissing these threats as a “big joke.”

In other news, Jesse Jackson lashed out at Barack Obama in what he thought was a private conversation in a news studio when he thought the mike was off. Saying Obama talks down to black people, he confided to his fellow guest on Fox and Friends that he wanted to cut Obama’s nuts out.”

And most stunning of all, the gaffer-in-chief, the US President, left his last G-8 summit yesterday after refusing to accept global climate change targets, delivered his farewell address to the world: “Goodbye from the world’s biggest polluter. (Thanks to Jill for the link.)

Fortunately, Mercury will move out of range of Pluto by tomorrow, but today you might want to watch your words carefully!

Neptune in Pisces and the question of reality
Neptune just slipped back into Pisces where it will remain until 2025.  Neptune's role in the astrological pantheon is to cause us to question where the physical world ends and a more transcendent reality begins.  It therefore rules our spiritual experience, but it can also be confusing and induce

what is it with Barack and men of the cloth? Between Rev. Wrong, that Catholic priest that mocked Hillary, and now Jesse Jackson, the people that have betrayed or potentially damaged him have been religious figures

While the Mercury/Pluto oppostion peaks today, Venus at 27 Cancer semisextile/quincunx’s the two. Moon in Libra moves into orb just as Mercury ingresses into Cancer.

Today, Karl Rove ignored a congressional subpoena[, refusing to appear at a scheduled hearing.

Thanks for pointing out that Venus quincunx, although the way I read it the influence of Venus is not usually felt strongly enough to be perceived in a quincunx (150 degrees for those of you not in the know). Still, I would think it’s a softening influence or perhaps engages people in a way not otherwise found

Julie, do you perceive Rev. Jackson as being primarily religious? I think we are seeing the opposition of Pluto to Obama’s Mars.

Also, we have DEFINITELY seen a turnaround since transiting Mars opposed Uranus in his chart and set off that transit of Mars to his Uranus (forgive me if I have the quality of the aspects wrong (square/opposition), I”m on the run and not actually looking at the chart)

Let’s not forget Phil Gramm’s comments about the delusion the American people are suffering from; ie, the recession is all in our heads

Agreed. Seems the Moon adds the necessary emotional fuel to create the necessary critical tension for the quincunx. Moon transiting Libra (ruler of Cancer) squaring Venus in Cancer

Hi Lynn: my comment was not really referring to Obama’s own religiosity. but that it seems to be men who are priests/ministers who have stirred things up in various ways in his campaign—Jesse is the latest

Although I have no plans to vote for Obama since he moved to the ‘center’, I think that Jesse Jackson’s comments help Obama since most white people don’t have warm feelings for Jesse Jackson. I guess it’s the the enemy of my enemy is my friend-well maybe close enough to be elected president.
