A look at Rachel Maddow

posted by Lynn Hayes | 5:29pm Wednesday September 10, 2008

Rachel Maddow’s new show begins on September 9, and if you’re a fan of the truth, no mattermaddow.jpg what side you’re on, you owe it to herself to check her out.

Twilight has posted a noon chart for Rachel, along with these words of wisdom:

I wonder who’ll be on the political scene in the USA around 10 years from now, say for the elections in 2016 and 2020? One name in the future’s political headlines which wouldn’t surprise me a bit would be Rachel Maddow. She’s 35 now, in ten years she’ll be just about the right age to run as a presidential candidate, or be chosen as VP, having perhaps done a stint in the House or Senate in intervening years.

Rachel’s new TV show, which has all the hallmarks of being “the one to watch” for those keen on politics, was aired for the first time last night. She has been seen fairly regularly on MSNBC all year, doing pundit duty along with Olbermann, Matthews, Buchanan and the rest, as well as presenting a regular radio show on Air America. She strikes me as the type of person for whom US politics is crying out. She oozes confidence, speaks and debates with a no nonsense clarity, clear grasp of issues, but never loses her calm, friendly approach.

What’s most notable about Rachel’s chart to me is the combination of Aries (Chiron, Sun and Venus conjunct in Aries) which is dynamic, inspirational, willful and courageous; Moon and Mercury conjunct in sensitive Pisces, which is empathic and creative but fragile; and Mars conjunct Jupiter in Aquarius – the innovator, the fighter for social justice and equality.
Pluto (power issues) opposes Venus in her chart, and she has no doubt had her share of difficult relationships and partnerships.  It is likely easier for her to make her own way than to partner with another, for business purposes anyway.  This planetary combination signifies relationships that end when they are no longer needed, and it is the Aries nature to make their own way in any event.  A trine (harmonious aspect) from Neptune to her Venus eases the difficulty of the Pluto aspect and shows a romantic idealism that minimizes that Pluto tension.

Saturn is in Gemini and squares Mercury (ruler of Gemini), tying the disappointment and frustration of Saturn to the mental and communication process.  Rachel’s intelligent did not come easy – she had to work hard for it and likely lacked confidence in her early life.  Although she has strong opinions, they are expressed with a solid background of research and information (Saturn/Mercury).
upiter and Uranus have both been aspecting Rachel’s progressed Venus, signifying beneficial (Jupiter) and sudden/surprising (Uranus) events through Rachel’s relationships.  Although she has had her own radio show on Air America for quite some time, it was the mentorship of Keith Olbermann that brought her so suddenly into the spotlight.  Jupiter has also been trine Rachel’s progressed Sun this year, allowing her to shine brightly in her new success.  Her good fortune will continue into early next year with a series of minor Jupiter transits that will keep the gods smiling on her.

Neptune in Pisces and the question of reality
Neptune just slipped back into Pisces where it will remain until 2025.  Neptune's role in the astrological pantheon is to cause us to question where the physical world ends and a more transcendent reality begins.  It therefore rules our spiritual experience, but it can also be confusing and induce

Why oh why did this make me think of Fake Uncle Pat? She handles him well, though.
The show’s good. It’s a great turning point to have someone like Maddow in the public eye — little fluff, lots of substance. Glad you devoted a post to her!

Rachel Maddow u are a very smart person. We love watching you. And you getting the bad things about McCain and that Palin woman. She is just a fake. She is a thief. Using people’s money for family’s advantage. No way she and that old Mc Cain would win

I have been enjoying her show. It is intelligent and she shows so much grace and confidence when including those with divergent opinions on her show.
Keith is evidently an Aquarius, I wonder how their charts interact?

Thanks for this! Love Rachel’s show, and what a great time for a genuinely smart and engaging female to be talking politics. And I was overjoyed to see the clips of McCain talking about pig lipstick; as well as the flashbacks to his hate speech directed at Chelsea Clinton (and Hillary, for that matter.)
The hypocrisy from McCain and the GOP needs to be demonstrated often.
Maddow is a perfect antidote to the dark cloud that has blown south from Alaska. In fact, I think Rachel is the anti-Palin.
Was in a much better frame of mind after watching her. Now off to get some ‘Polar Bears for Barack’ bumper stickers.

I have always enjoyed listening to her on Air America and am delighted about her tv show! Thanks for doing this post, I looked up her data a few months ago and am happy someone did the analysis.
Kudos!

I enjoy Rachel’s commentary, but I don’t see her quite the way you do. I find much of her commentary, though couched in intelligence, seems to be feelings-based. I find her judgements to be somewhat impulsive, rather than reflective. She appears to use her ‘smarts’ to support her opinions, which she flashes to (Gemini Saturn with her Pisces moon and mercury). And I doubt that she would take critical feedback well with her fragile moon. Her intelligence is formidable, which makes it difficult for others to challenge her opinions as that intelligence is a mighty defence mechanism.
I know I wouldn’t want a president that didn’t play well in the sandbox. Team-building is important in a leader and intellectual bullying is unattractive over time.
I expect that her rising sign is something quite charming, perhaps Taurus or Libra. That gives the charisma, but you need to be able to get along with people better than this chart indicates to sustain trust.
Just another perspective.
Sheila

very nice analysis, Lynn! I really like Rachel Maddow as well, and want to add that she has Eris, our new little planetoid of civil disobedience, at 12 Aries 49 – very tightly conjunct her Sun! I’ll add her to my study charts for the ‘Eristocracy’… oh, and about those Pisces placements. Pisces can indeed be sweet and compassionate, but while one of those is a goldfish, the other fish is a barracuda! (you don’t have the birthdata for Naomi Klein, do you? she’s another exceedingly intelligent young woman making waves in all the right places, taking on the Corporati… I’ve been trying to find her data for a long time now) Thank you!

Ruby – thanks for the Eris connection! I really need to start adding that element to see what comes up. I like your goldfish/barracuda anaology! I get my birthdates from Wikipedia, but with celebrities the public sources are not always accurate. Sometimes they lie about their age. :)

Hi Rachel,
I like your show very much. But keep Pat Buchanan off your show as he hates the Democratic Party. I doubt that he ever kissed a girl in his entire life. He probably never had sex.
Why is he considered an expert on anything? He and his sister are LOSERS.
They would do anything to destroy the Democratic Party.
He is a fanatic Catholic. As far as the VP debate Pallin never even responded to any attacks of the Senator!
Right away Buchanan said “Pallin won the debate” She did not as she really never debated the issues.
She is a Pentocostal. That is dangerous religion. As President she could easily get us into a war!
Capitalism can only work if you put controls on it. President Roosevelt new that. That is why he put controls on it. Bush and the Republicans got all the controls removed.
Regards
Richard

Hey Lynn,
I am guessing Rachel might have been born around 4 pm. This would give her gemini at the mid-heaven, neptune in her third house (joyfully spontaneous communication), south node of the moon in the tenth house (ease of being in career, public life) and that nice Pisces stuff in the seventh house (soulful interviews with guests on her show), as well a virgo rising keeping a critical eye on everything.
What do you think?
Karen

Hi Karen – it’s hard to guess the ascendant of someone about whom we know so little. I definitely think she has earth rising, though – the Pisces sensitivity is hard to spot. Virgo would make sense, but Gemini on the midheaven typically goes through a lot of careers and Rachel has some durability as a broadcaster.
Stephanie Miller sent me her birth data after I did a post on her using IMDB data that was incorrect. Maybe we can get that from Rachel!
