Beginning on the US election day, Saturn and Uranus will begin a series of five oppositions
, concluding the summer of 2010. Astrologers have been speculating for the past year about what this could mean. Saturn is the planet that rules over the status quo, governmental and societal structures that hold chaos at bay, the limitations that we place on our world. Uranus is the planet that invites the chaos in to create radical changes in our world. It seeks new ways of thinking and innovative discoveries – it presides over inventions and new technologies. When these two planets oppose each other a tension is created between the old (Saturn) and the new (Uranus).
In the US this tension began back in March-April when transiting Uranus began a square to Mars (21 Gemini) in the US chart. This is when the fevered rhetoric for change swept over the presidential primaries, with even Mitt Romney and John McCain adopting the call for change that was so successful for Barack Obama.
It’s interesting and perhaps beyond coincidence that the second phase of the square of Uranus to the US Mars occurred at the end of August, just as Sarah Palin was chosen as the Change Candidate for the Republican ticket. Palin, as we’ve seen in earlier articles, has a stellium of Aquarius (ruled by both Uranus and Saturn) planets in her chart and at the convention was acclaimed by the GOP as a reformer who can bring change (Uranus) to Washington while adhering to conservative “values” (Saturn).
All of this talk of change can be frightening to many people in a time of crisis such as the one we find ourselves in at this moment. When we are frightened we may tend to cling to that which is familiar (Saturn) rather than embrace something the unknown (Uranus). This was particularly true this summer when transiting Saturn made a square to Uranus in the US chart, putting the Saturnian kibosh on all of this change rhetoric. Now, however, transiting Neptune (spirituality, creativity) is making an exact trine to Mars in the US chart and will sit right on the degree of the US Mars as it stations direct through December. Neptune is idealistic and full of hope, and able to envision the possibilities of a real change and this could bode well for Obama’s success on election day.

Lynn, I knew you would come through with some hope. I have been sooooo appreciating your perspective. After reading some very dire predictions on some other astrology blogs, which have been leaving me pacing in my kitchen. I have been checking for your comments on these aspects. Many thanks.

Obama is not destined to win. On a Horary chart drawn for him way back at the begining of 2008 it showed a rapid rise but a downfall because of a woman. I can see now it was Sahra, at first I thought it was his wife who would undermine his glass tower. His inability to be a man and fight his own battles, allowing the press to push him where he truly not suposed to be will impact on him and the NDC. He will lose by 10 states by a narrow margin. Over the next 8 weeks his glitter and glamor will tarnish and there will be some very upsetting events for the NDC. His fall will be just as quick as his rise. The stars don’t lie.

Saturn-Uranus opposition exact on Election Day will bring something new under the sun.
Black man as president? Certainly one possible outcome.
Also possible, if not to be wished for, would be for a 72-year-old candidate with a history of cancer to die right before or on Election Day and a woman becomes president.
I have a strong, positive Uranus in my natal chart, so I’ve found it brings good things into my life…but I don’t always expect that in the world.
Strong, positive Uranus =
* Sun/Mercury/Mars conjunction sextile Uranus
* Mercury (ruling planet) sextile Uranus
* Uranus in the first house
* Aquarius midheaven
* Jupiter, Sun, Mercury in the 11th house

Horary is hoary, you know. Outdated astrology with no real basis.

Message to THT. I think the next four years of an Obama administration are going to be a huge thorn in your side. I have to say I quite enjoy that thought! Try prayer. I think you need it.

A friend of mine, who knows nothing about astrology, said yesterday “This election will be between the people and the government.” The people = Uranus, the government = Saturn. I thought that was pretty interesting.
Regarding horary: evidently it does not provide a consistent answer: http://www.astrologyweekly.com/more-horary/next-us-president.php

Another message to THT: You must be a Republican. Don’t you people only believe in what your Bible says? What are you doing believing in astrology? Tsk, tsk. What will your pastor say! Oh my!

I looked at all four candidates charts for Election Day. I used the following chart info:
John McCain: 8/29/36 at 9 am, Cocosolo, Panama
Sarah Palin: 2/11/64 at 4:40 pm, Sandpoint, ID
Barack Obama: 8/4/61 at 7:24 am, Honolulu, HI
Joe Biden: 11/20/42 at 8:30 am, Scranton, PA
The one thing that jumped out at me immediately was Joe Biden’s chart. If birth time is accurate, Biden has 19 degrees Virgo on the cusp of his 10th house. On the morning of election day, Saturn will be at 18 degrees Virgo – just about to transit Biden’s 10th house. However, by the end of the day, Saturn will have moved into 19 degrees Virgo – exactly on the cusp of Biden’s 10th House..
And of course, Uranus will be opposing that Saturn on the cusp of Biden’s 4th House.
We all know what Robert Hand has to say about a Saturn transit through a natal 10th House: “Represents the harvest” and “in your professional life, you will gain many responsibilities. If you are ambitious of leadership, this will be a period of great achievement.”
Now we also know that Nixon had Saturn transiting his 10th house during Watergate, but he clearly fell to the (as Hand writes), “the negative energies” that he had “unleashed in the past.”
WIth Uranus on the cusp of Biden’s 4th House, the house of home and foundations, look again at Hand: “Sudden change in your home environment or even a complete change of residence (as into the White House?). A settle family life may be threatened by…someone’s death.”
McCain’s health is not an issue. His mother is a testament to his chances of a long life. Yes, he has had skin cancer. I haven’t heard the “melanoma” word yet. I live in Florida and have LOTS of friends who have have recurring bouts with skin cancer. I have three friends who have had melanoma. Don’t worry about McCain until you hear the “M” word. While his dad may have died at the age of 70 of a heart attack in 1981, he had that heart attack on a military transport plane while it was in the air enroute from Europe. I will bet that there was not a defibrillator on board. I’m sure if that had happened to Dick Cheney in 1981, he’d not be Vice President today.
Obama’s security IS an issue. The FBI arrested three men in Colorado right before the Democratic convention. They confessed that they had plans to shoot Obam from a vantage point overlooking Invesco Field with a .22 caliber rifle, yet the FBI felt their plan had little chance of success. Obama’s own people have professed their concerns about insuring Obama’s safety not only through the election, but should he be elected President.
As much as I would like to believe that we have evolved to a point that people in this country are not considering killing Obama, let’s face it….the dark side is there.
On election day, Saturn will be transiting Obama’s 7th house of the public – also the house of open enemies – and Uranus in his 1st house of self, he will have a transiting Moon conjoining his Natal Saturn in his 12th House, inconjunct his Natal Mars in his 7th House and opposing his Natal Uranus in his 7th House the morning of November 4. Could the person who brings harm to Obama a woman?
I’ll have my eye on something happening to Obama on election day that will catapult Biden into the White House.

I think that Obama might have a better chance of becoming president, if Pluto were to still be in Sagittarius on inauguration day, but it will be moving forward into Capricorn (after having retrograding in Sag for several months)on November 26th – three weeks after the election. Any thoughts?

Lynn, aren’t you in North Carolina? I was just watching the news and wondering how you are doing with the storm out there?

When I tried that linky, I got a 404 message saying that it didn’t work and to put suggest a word in the box that they have blank. I put in the word ‘horary’ and it actually brought me to one of the magazine pages, so I just scanned down and then saw the original link and clicked on it and – Voila!
posted September 7, 2008 at 8:07 am
I fixed the link – it had a period at the end. Sorry!
It’s very difficult not to look at the astrological signatures through our own lens and opinions. For example, The Human Touch reveals his/her view of Obama when he says “His inability to be a man and fight his own battles” and that he has “glitter and glamor.” Still, a horary reading (a reading in which an astrologer attempts to answer a question based upon the time it was asked) depends on the time of the question.
ML – where did you get this birthtime for Biden? There is no birthtime available as far as I can tell. Also the 4:40 pm time for Sarah Palin is unsubstantiated and shouldn’t be used except for entertainment purposes only. Your other points are interesting, except that I haven’t seen any cases where a transiting Moon resulted in a large event such as an assassination.
Reagen – thanks for asking about the storm! We had some much needed rain and our power went out for about 6 hours so it could have been a great deal worse!

Lynn, I’m so glad to hear that you ‘weathered the storm’.
This is a bit off the subject, I know but:
I have been studying my geneology for some years now and find that I have an entire string of relatives, who eventually came through North Carolina (during the 1600′s in England most likely originally from France)- and many who stayed in N.C. – by the last name of Triplet (also spelled Tripolett/Triplett, etc).
One is evidently an architect who authored books on this subject (of architecture), as well as the historical interests in that area, who passed away a few years ago. Have you run across any Triplets?

That’s an interesting link, Lynn. The more I read about Palin, the more I dislike her. It’s hard to believe this woman’s for real.

Hi Lynn. Glad you are safe.
What U.S. chart are you referring to? In both the Sibley and Gemini rising charts, Uranus is 8:52 Gemini.
Also, any thoughts about an impact of the Saturn Uranus t-square with the U.S. Mars on the election? I read just today that vote caging is underway, but can’t remember which state. Looks to me that this election is going to be closer than people thought and the GOP is going to fight like hell to win. (Pluto square GOP Mars)
MLM: I agree, Obama’s security is an issue, which the Feds don’t appear to be taking seriously. Obama was born during the previous cycle of Uranus Pluto. It’s interesting that he’s come to prominence on the national scene during the next turn of the same cycle. This was the era of the civil rights movement, the first black American to be appointed to the Supreme Court. So, in keeping with this cycle, it’s no surprise that the first black American is the nominee of a major political party. But as a country we haven’t overcome racism and as we’ve seen, the danger still exists.

IRMA & OTHERS
I hope this doesn’t shake you up too much. THT is a REV. with a large following – Christian, moderate and free thinking. Also my personal politics are DEM for 4 generations.
Horary Astrology like anything else is bases on a question asked at a specific time on a very specific topic, example: will my crops have a blight or my sheep die. There are very few of us left who know how to do it correctly, to obtain a clear unbiased answer to the question asked.
Yes I am old but still able to think for myself and able to decern good from evil. This election will bring a lot of speculation and no matter who wins there will be a lot of decension.
The wheel is coming full circle and the hard questions and the truth have yet to be revealed. Beware the Brilliant Darkness, it appears to be good and light but is more evil that the darkness.
As to the one who said I should pray, I do. I ask for peace and love to fill every heart that is filled with racism, bigotry, and hate.
Be blessed. THT

Helene – I use the Sibley chart, the Sag rising is the only chart to me that makes sense for the US. However, the transit of Neptune to Uranus was a typo, it should have been Mars. You’ll see with my Gemini rising I am prone to typos and depend on my readers to keep me straight!!
I agree that there is a possibility of danger for Obama, and on election day transiting Mars will make an exact square to transiting Neptune which will sit very close to Obama’s ascendant. Chiron will be in exact conjunction with Obama’s progressed Moon, both in very close conjunction to his ascendant. I have to think some about what this means before I venture an opinion.

Dear ML Maize,
In your post, you said that McCain has not had melanoma. Actually, he has had 4 malignant melanomas. The left side of his face is disfigured from an extensive surgery.
Does that change anything?

As metaphysicians we are aware of physical signs from our universe as paths to follow and we have been given many (obvious lies, ecomomy problems etc.). We know also we are given free will which always seem to take us in the wrong direction to positive soul evolution. With the polls showing Mccain’s growing in the polls, it is apparent people are not heeding the signs.

I am optimistic about Obama. But I must say there is something about the saturn/uranus opposition that makes me wonder if there will be a delay.
under a national crisis, the president can delay a general election.
perhaps even financial? don’t know.

Astrologically, what do election days 2004, 2006 and 2008 have in common? A retrograde Uranus in Pisces. What do 2004 and 2008 have in common? A Saturn more powerful than Uranus. Conservative Saturn was weak in 2006 and the Democrats, headed by Nancy Pelosi first woman House Speaker-representing San Fransisco where the 60s counter culture movement began-captured both houses of Congress. Yet the Moon that day (Cancer-in-Chief George Bush) in Gemini (trine 10th House=Chief Executive) squared retro-Uranus thus blocking, impeding, obstructing and stopping the 110th (Uranian) Congress from implimenting its radical agenda and percipitiously withdrawing our troops from Iraq.
It appears that by the closing of the polls tomorrow retro-Uranus’s frustrations and headaches will continue: a powerful Saturn in Virgo (McCain’s Sun sign) opposes Uranus (McCain’s natal Saturn conjuncts Uranus transit) from the 10th House (when polls open) and is squared by Venus (McCain’s rising planet). What this suggests to me is that Bush’s brake on Congress’s radical chaotic tendancies will continue under President McCain.
The trouble that I foresee with the early post-election period is the Obamarites adjusting civily to defeat. The unrealistic expectations raised by Obama (Uranus in utopian Pisces) could become rather nasty and turn into violence and rage as the hopes and dreams of many good people are shattered (Saturn is Shiver destroyer of illusion). If this happens it would be unfortunate, but the blame will fall on Obama’s head and his messianic rhetoric and pie in the sky campaign of transformational change.

wow…some of the comments here are remarkably stupid…Mr. Apollo and his friend shiver (sic) might care to take a reality check before posting such nonsense…there is an opposition of saturn and uranus culminating but it is more than possible that some people have confounded the candidates in which one will really find those energies…
