I’ve been reading “The Fated Sky” by Benson Bobrick, a fascinating history of astrology by an imminent historian. In it, he discusses historical examples — especially during the Roman empire — of such predictions. One story really interested me. To paraphrase …
The emperor Domitian (somewhere around 85 AD) learned of astrological predictions regarding the time and nature of his own death and lived his life in terror of the prediction coming true. At one point, he asked a respected astrologer named Ascletarion to predict his (Ascletarion’s) own death, which the astrologer said would have something to do with being torn apart by dogs. At that point — to demonstrate the flaw in such predictions — the emperor had the astrologer killed on the spot, presumably stabbed to death.
In disposing of the body, the emperor had Ascletarion’s corpse placed on a funeral pyre, but just as the fire was being ignited, a strong wind arose. The pyre blew over and Ascletarion’s corpse rolled onto the ground, where a a passing pack of wild dogs proceeded to devour it.
The point is, Bobrick in his book relates a few more such instances, usually where the deaths bear at least a strong resemblance to the original astrological prediction.
Something to ponder, anyway.

From a New York Times blog, Obama is quoted about his regret about not being there when his mother died. He did not want to make the same mistake with his grandmother, hence his decision to take time off the campaign. Perhaps, his grandmother’s illness is allowing him to deal with the unfinished business of his mother’s death.

Jilly – I don’t remember your chart, but some Sun/South Node people have a strong affiliation to their ancestral past. It all depends on the aspects to that South Node, too.
Gregory – I have the Bobrick book too but I never finished reading it. I have heard a similar story about an astrologer being murdered with respect to Tiberius. You have to wonder how much of these ancient stories are fact and how much are legend. Nostradamus famously predicted the death of Henry II. But what use was that? He died anyway.

Does Obama have Aquarius rising? (I’m trying to remember.) So, then, is the south node currently in his 7th house of relationships? If so, then most likely, the ending is referring to his grandmother.
Question: The NORTH node is now in Aquarius (Obama’s rising) – so what could that portend?

Thank you for reframing this. I can’t tell you how many predictions I’ve seen about Obama being assasinated. Far too many. I’m both outraged and worried. No question his election is going to enrage a certain sick segment. No question McCain and especially Palin have much to do with inflaming that perverted reaction. Equally so they could do much to temper it…But they won’t I imagine. Like I’ve been saying let’s keep Barack, Joe and all their families in a circles of protection and light. Always.

The timing of the transiting South Node across his Sun at this time appears significant in light of the failing health of his grandmother, and the fact that she may not survive to see him elected which would coincide with the exact hit of the South Node to the Sun.’
You were amazingly correct in your interpretation. His Grandmother paseed this afternoon. My thoughts and prayers go out to Barack Obama and his family. How bittersweet his win will be tomorrow.

I often see death cards when I ask about Obama. I do not think it is because of assasination. Some people just have a lot of death around them during their lives, i.e. both parents dying young. Is there anything in his chart that bears this out? Just seems to me that death is around him a lot, and affects him but its not his death. Assasination is not likely to happen in this day and age.
Since Grandma was a born Scorpio and died under that sign, it is likely that either Obama or his sister will be welcoming a new addition to the family within the next year.

Wow – as it turns out, you were right about the grandmother’s passing. I would have thought that would have been indicated by the South Node passing over the Moon. I think his moon is Taurus 26 degrees. What events could represent when this happens?
