There are few astrological concepts that are the source of as much disagreement among astrologers as the Moon "void of course." The Moon is said to be void of course, or simply void, after it has made its last major aspect to another planet and before it enters the next sign. For example, as I write this on Thursday November 12 the Moon is in Taurus, and it will oppose Mars in a 180 degree angle aspect at 12:12 pm EST. The Moon will not finish its travels through Taurus and enter Gemini until 3:11 pm today, so that period between 12:12 pm and 3:11 EST is said to be the "void of course" period.
One of my guiding principles as an astrologer, a counselor and teacher is advising students and clients not to let their lives be ruled by the ephemeris (the book of planetary positions), but instead to use the planets as a weather report so that we can be prepared. Planetary cycles do not doom us to certain experiences - they do provide us with climate changes that can facilitate or challenge us as we live our life. It's all too easy for people to use planetary possibilities as a vehicle for fear and put their life on hold when, say, Mercury is retrograde or when the Moon is void of course. The Void of Course Moon was a big topic during the discussions over the past year about who would win the Democratic nomination since Obama made his announcement when the Moon was void (February 13, 2007 at 10:13 am in Springfield Illinois). Obama was officially nominated at 4:47 pm on August 27, before the Moon went void (thank you Madame Lichtenstein). Perhaps the DNC has an astrologer on staff.
The concept of the void Moon comes from ancient electional techniques which rely on aspects from the Moon as the fastest-moving planetary body. When the Moon did not make an aspect, it was thought that there was somewhat of a limbo period where nothing was likely to change.
If we have a choice, it is better to take the planetary configurations into consideration when timing an event. But sometimes these things are not under our control, and then we must forge forward without fear, knowing that the planets "impel, but do not compel."

The interest in Void-of-course Moons has come up many times in my Horary practise- Ivy Jacobson and others taught "there is nothing readable in this" ,though Ivy pointed out that if the natal chart of the client had planets in degrees that would still be aspected by the Moon before it changed signs then it was not "void of course"until after the Moon had made those contacts.____In health inquiries I have had several charts with voided moons . I told these people, when I was a novice, there was nothing to worry about-"nothing would come of their worry"--to loosely quote Ivy. Now, after many years of working in Astrology I know the Moon void is more closely defined "there is nothing that you can do about it" though I will more likely encourage the client to seek professional help from doctors,lawyers or whatever suits his or her circumstances.____It is so important to educate clients to the more expanded Universe that Astrologers see and enjoy.____I just started using a computer and it is a delight to find your column.I'm looking forward to more imput.____Pegg Powell (ppowl28@yahoo.com)
the fact that obama announced his candidacy during a moon void of course could explain the circumstances he's inheriting even before he's sworn in: the biggest economic crises since the great depression probably dooming his administration to failure.
unfortunately and tradegically it could also mean a successful assassination attempt against him either before or shortly after his inauguration.
The fact that Senator Obama announced his run for the presidency when the moon was void that entire Saturday and the fact that he picked Joe Biden under a similar moon void of course all day means to me that his presidency will not meet its intended purpose - you can interpret that any way you like, but that is my belief. Not necessarily that he won't be innaugurated President, but that things won't turn out as planned )A-Rod was signed by the Yankees during the moon void of course and he was expected to deliiver a World Series and I made bets with everyone I knew that an A-Rod Yankees team would never win the World Series - so far after 5 years I am correct. When I went to forward it would'nt let me. So I read this text over and over again wondering what is the message. So I said maybe since i cant text it or send it to myself post it over the internet so it can be heard. So I read the text again and THINK ABOUT IT STUCK OUT IN MY HEAD...I look up what does it mean and came across something about our future President Barrack OBAMA... He was sworn in on the VOID OF MOON... I know you wondering what that mean. If you
want something to be heard and taken into consideration you should wait until after the void moon which ended at 7:42am on Eastern Time Zone December 29th 2008 which is today.
I was going to send this message out last night at 10:00 am but something made me stop. And thats when I look up "Think about it" and the void mood gave and example about what i was about to do. Here it is :
Knowing when the Moon becomes Void of Course is an easy way to begin to watch the effect of the closest heavenly body to earth-the Moon. The Moon becomes void when it's not making any major aspects to the other planets. This happens every few days for a time period ranging from a few minutes to a day or more.
Simply put, what this means from a practical standpoint, is that anything that is started when the Moon is void of course, doesn't pan out. Starting a new business? Don't make it official until the void period is over. Looking for an engagement date? Avoid the times that the Moon is void if you want to play it safe. One more thing. Don't push the send button on an important e-mail until the Moon void period is over. That is, unless you want nothing to come of it. Fretting
over a possible negative outcome for a court case, a health issue or whatever? The void of course definition still applies-nothing comes of it.
Can you override the effect of a void Moon? Maybe, but be prepared to double your efforts and then hope and pray for the best. Now, I have to tell you, the reverse strategy of starting something important when the Moon is not void doesn't guarantee success. I do know that starting something important when it is void, nearly always holds true; Nothing much happens.

I'm hoping that the article I read reagarding the ending of a situation can be best ended under a moon void of course. I have had an ongoing problem with my nose. Unable to breathe. I had the operation, though I had no control over the exact time I would have the op, just as the moon went void of course. Now the surgeon said that everything went as planned; and though I can breathe so far I have had two infections so far in my nose as a result of the op and I'm still waiting to see if its been successful. Eveytime I go training my nose gets stuffy. I hope this is due to the infection and not due to a failed operation.
