Carol of the Bells in Claymation

posted by Lynn Hayes | 7:19am Friday December 5, 2008

This has nothing to do with astrology, but I had to share this.  Many of you know that I’ve been studying the hammered dulcimer, and I just started learning Carol of the Bells, my favorite Midwinter tune and possibly the main inspiration for me wanting to learn the instrument in the first place.  So I’ve been doing some browsing through videos for the tune and found this hilarious little film.

Astrologers have a reputation, which we ourselves and our forbears have propagated, of being able to foretell the future.  If you run a Google search for "Can astrology predict the future," the very first article is from a well-known astrology site titled "Predicting the future with astrology."

Neptune in Pisces and the question of reality
Neptune just slipped back into Pisces where it will remain until 2025.  Neptune's role in the astrological pantheon is to cause us to question where the physical world ends and a more transcendent reality begins.  It therefore rules our spiritual experience, but it can also be confusing and induce

I loved both these videos. That’s awesome that you are learning to play this instrument. I have admiration and envy for anyone who can make music.

Wonderful, thanks for sharing! Interesting coincidence the first video mentions driving spirits away with noise, something I just read about today in a fun article about “Schmutzli” here:

I LOVE the Claymation Christmas…. it’s been a tradition in our family for years to watch it when we get together for the Holidays! And… Carol of the Bells is my favorite, as well… so this portion of the DVD is most entertaining!! :)
Happy Holidays!!

I love Claymation. And nothing spices up Christmas quite like goofy bells hitting themselves in the head. It’s sort of like chocolate bars with bacon bits in them, or putting chili pepper in the chocolate, or garlic ice cream.

Awesome! I am a former professional hammer dulcimer player myself. My dulcimer playing was born 1/29/89 (Aquarius Sun). The only reason I stopped playing dulcimer was that I taught myself to play the accordion in early September, 1998 (Virgo Sun) and that brought me many more gigs, simply because more people in this country recognize the accordion. When I describe the dulcimer I get a blank look from most people. I guess Earth (Virgo) trumps Air (Aquarius) when earning cold cash! Any astrologer could tell you that.
BTW, my screen name (cimbalok) means “little dulcimer” in Slovak. The granddaddy instrument is the chromatic cimbalom. Years ago I decided that in my next life I would be born in Slovakia and be a kick-*ss cimbalom player or violinist. Or a shepherd…

Cimba! I never knew you played the HD. Thanks for sharing this. The accordion is a cool instrument too, and I’ve been amazed at all the Irish accordion-type instruments. Concertina, button accordion, etc.
