by Lynn HayesIt appears that Obama, who announced his candidacy when the Moon was void of course (which has been a topic of much discussion in the comments here at this site and elsewhere) is poised to take the oath...
Hi Lynn. I am always grateful to see such posts about the appropriate use of astrology. I consequently closed on my house last summer when Mercury was retro in my 7th house and Uranus was retro in my 4th. Though I did my best to push the closing to 3 days past Mercury's turn direct, it seemed "fated" that I walk into the closing the way I did. The closing went smoothly and quickly.
Yes, since then, there have been lots of unexpected occurrences, obstacles, and wild twists of fate, but it seems that this is what my soul signed up for. I am loving my home and all the renovations that are unfolding before me and the beautiful land that surrounds me. I am constantly challenged to see life differently every moment here, create unprecedented solutions and not take anything for granted.
I think sometimes we are meant to face the aspects square on and learn what we can. There is a power in the void of course moon, just like there is with the Mercury Rx. The gifts that can come with a certain amount of acceptance and not attempting to force things to be what they are not can be invaluable.

I have thought too about the Mercury retro, and now this void Moon...what comes to 'mind' for me it, the collective consciousness is being 'taken out' so the new wave of energy can seat itself.
Seeds are planted, and even though some people object [to the President-elect] Obama knows where he's going. Did you see the interview on 60 minutes where they discussed 'Barrack Obama' as an separate persona...it feels like an archetype is being birthed and maybe the planets are exactly lined up for this new consciousness to come a shore.

Yes, the whole "haloing the president" thing started with George W. Bush after 9/11, and even though I am an Obama supporter, I don't want to see this "tradition" continued. It's all too close to the kind of cultism and royalism we saw in the Bush Administration, and just because this guy is "on our team" doesn't make it right.
As for the notion of "Barack Obama" as a separate persona from Barack Obama the person, this seems to be a recurring theme. The most famous example of this is Stephen Colbert, a family man and Sunday school teacher living in NJ who plays "Stephen Colbert" on television and whose skewering of the bombast of the interplay between official Washington and the press corps at the White House Correspondents Dinner that one year is arguably one of the 10 finest moments in broadcast history. But on last week's "Sound of Young America" program, Rob Corddry mentioned the same thing -- about playing a character in public that has your name.
I don't think pointing this out is a bad thing. All too often people think they "know" someone because of an image they see on television. If we start to see public figures point this out, perhaps we can create the kind of change that looks at deeds, not just public media personae.

The uproar if Obama moved back his speech because of a "void moon" on advice of astrologers would make the upset over Rick Warren look like a tempest in a tea kettle. Sorry, but he would be a national and international laughing stock.

I wouldn't worry so much - this inaguration, with all the people going there and how huge it is becoming, there will be "delays" and he will be inagurated after 12:30pm, but don't expect the powers that be to bow to the astrologers publicly. That's not going to happen. Look at what happened to the Reagans and how they were ridiculed.

Happy New Year and thank you for the link & mention.
Please allow me to respond to this portion of your post:
"I have to say that I think putting a halo behind Obama's head
in the photo that accompanies this article is a bit much, even for
me. My concern about all of this hoopla over the void of course
Moon is that while people are learning more about astrology,
which I think is a wonderful thing, many people are allowing
astrology to scare them into a paralyzing fear"
It is never my intention to paralyze anyone with astrology. Though Obama's official announcement was in fact on a V/C Moon (Feb 10, 2007 @ 10:13 am, Springfield) a study of several past Presidents who did take the oath on a V/C Moon does lend enough evidence to at least think about it twice.
Times being what they are, I would, if he were my client (okay- a stretch) suggest the 12:30 time. It's just stronger IMO with Jupiter exactly on the midheaven.

PS: As far as placing a halo around Obama's head, I must confess, that it is a 'borrowed' AP photo with a blurred Obama/Biden logo in the background- not my use of Photoshop at all LOL (I'm not that gifted).

The whole halo thing is propaganda to make us think these folks are angelic when in fact they are demonic. ANYONE who makes it to the top 2-4 candidates for the president is working for the very evil people who truly rule this planet. They are puppets, they are faces for those who really pull the strings.
Obama is certainly going to push this country and the rest of the world into further ruin. Just look who he chose for his cabinet and look past what the "respected" media has to say about them to their true actions while in public office.
Wake up people...we are being constantly brainwashed by the media.

Hi Lynn, I like your blog. I just wrote about the Inauguration chart on my blog as well. There are two bugaboos of astrology in that chart, a void-of course Moon and a retrograde Mercury. I also don't think these things are deal breakers but I feel they do influence the whole. Here is what I wrote about the Moon:
"One of the most troubling things about the Inauguration chart is a void-of-course Moon. It would be nice if some astrology-savvy staff member (or perhaps Michelle consults astrologers?) would postpone the actual swearing in until the Moon goes into Sagittarius at 12:30 pm when it will no longer be in the void-of-course limbo land. But if we have to work with this late degree Scorpio Moon, the best way may be to use its energy is to stop being naïve. Scorpio sees things the way they really are, warts and all. The Moon in these types of charts represents the mood of the people. Obama’s populace may not want to put up with the government operating in the same old way. With a void-of-course Moon, Obama may have a harder time connecting with the people. The Moon is also square to fantasy-producing Neptune. This energy contradicts the clear-eyed skepticism of Scorpio. Perhaps this connection to Neptune shows the portion of the people who believe, perhaps more than they should, that Obama will have all the answers and be the salvation for us all. Put to good use this Moon may help us be realistic while at the same time maintaining idealism. That balancing act is always a good trick."
thanks for your grounded thoughts about astrology,
Teri

Jennifer - thanks for that tip from Joan Quigley. When I'm doing electional dates we can't always choose the ideal time. Sometimes someone wants to incorporate and the best time is at 3 am when the business offices are closed. But astrology is like this - sometimes your soul mate comes with a Mars that squares your Mercury and you're always arguing. Sometimes the only time you can get married is when Venus is retrograde. You don't stop living your life - you just plan for those contingencies. :)
Your Name (and I think this is a glitch in the commenting system, are people having trouble with their names going through??) - the conjunction and the square (and the opposition) are all what we call "hard angle" aspects (0, 90 and 180 degrees) so they are all stressful but they operate a little bit differently. With Saturn conjunct the Sun there is an internal sense of oppression and limitation. Saturn square the Sun feels like that pressure is coming from outside. Saturn opposite the Sun requires balance and integration.

In regards to the timing of the actual swearing in, the ceremony takes apx. 90 minutes with the presidential swearing in occuring somewhere in the middle, so that would put it past 12:30p EST

VOC moon at 29 degrees scorpio-Bankruptcy. The DOW tanked to historic 14 year low yesterday at the close of the markets.
The moon aspected Neptune by square before going VOC. The moon-the people; Neptune-illusion. Obama selects two intolerant pastors to bless his presidency. One, an active anti-gay rights activist and the other, who stated in his 'prayer', "white do right". Two pastors, both who judge and condemn souls based on life style and race. This seems incongruent to Obamas rhetoric. How can an intelligent tolerant leader select these two narrow minded judgemental religious leaders to bless his presidency? This doesn't make sense to me. Some Americans seeing Obama through the illusive, dreamy, influence of neptune and not seeing the reality of his selection of pastors.

Gee, where to start with this one. First, the Dow likely tanked because Obama talked about regulation, something Wall Street doesn't like. Second, Rick Warren is not an active anti-gay rights activist. In fact, the other evangelicals don't trust him because he never made a statement supporting Prop 8 in California. A lot of the blowback about Warren came from one interview he did on this very website where he used a poor choice of words. Melissa Etheridge has come out in support of him. And Lowery in that statement was quoting an old rhyme that was funny in this context. And from the black perspective, white people over the last 400 years have not always done right. Obama took two pastors with two very different perspectives which I thought was brilliant.
I'm not concerned with people who are so distrustful of Obama - look at what we've had to deal with for so long. Trust in government is dead. But I am certain that over time it will become apparent what kind of leader we're dealing with here, and one of us will be wrong.

Rick Warren, the senior pastor of Saddleback Church in Southern California, opposes abortion rights but has taken more liberal stances on the government's role in fighting poverty, and backed away from other evangelicals’ staunch support for economic conservatism. But it’s his support for the California constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage that drew the most heated criticism from Democrats Wednesday.
“Your invitation to Reverend Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at your inauguration is a genuine blow to LGBT Americans,” the president of Human Rights Campaign, Joe Solomonese, wrote to Obama Wednesday. “[W]e feel a deep level of disrespect when one of architects and promoters of an anti-gay agenda is given the prominence and the pulpit of your historic nomination.
