Lynn, there may well have been an advanced ancient civilization - we can't say there wasn't as we can't prove a negative - but the Antikythera mechanism does not signify it. The mechanism is no more advanced than many of the other automata of the time, in mechanical terms. However, we're still collectively traumatised by the attempt of organized religion to occult the face of God from our view, so when we see a device displaying the fact the ancients knew the truth about the world, we think of it as advanced.
we're still collectively traumatised by the attempt of organized religion to occult the face of God from our view,
As someone for whom Pluto just finished a transit of Sag in the 7th house, this is probably the most profound description of how I have felt in "losing my religion." Thank you, er, Dear Reader.
This is nicely said, Reader. we're still collectively traumatised by the attempt of organized religion to occult the face of God from our view,
I HAVE read that there were other automata, as you say, at that time. But the automata were rather more advanced than the technology of the civilization that supposedly gave birth to it which raises some questions in my mind.
Dear Lynn, if you or any of your readers have not read "The Ringing Cedars of Russia" series by Vladimir Megre I highly recommend them. Megre was an entrepreneur plying his trade up and down the River Obsk in Central Russia. At one of his stops he met two very elderly gentlemen who told him the story of the ringing Cedars of Russia. Very spiritual trees, like the Cedars of Lebanon, that hold tremendous amounts of energy which they pull in from the Universe. At a point in their long life they start ringing ie. talking to us humans. The two gentlemen then told Megre about their granddaughter/greatgranddaughter Anastasia who lives alone in the Siberian forest. A highly spiritual, beautiful and powerful young woman, member of an extremely ancient group of people, the original inhabitants of the Earth. In the nine books of the series, Megre recounts what Anastasia has to tell us about the what, where, why and how of the situation on Earth we find ourselves in today, and what we can individually to help heal Mother Earth. These books are fascinating and true even though you have pinch yourself while reading them.
Thanks for this book recommendation, it sounds very interesting!
