Daily Skywatch: February 1 2009

posted by Lynn Hayes | 7:42am Sunday February 1, 2009

by Lynn Hayes.  This is written for Eastern time zone – please adjust accordingly for your own part of the world.

I’m working on the February Skywatch and will be posting that later today, but meanwhile here is your forecast for Sunday February 1.  Mercury has thankfully turned direct, so any projects that you have shelved out of frustration can be dug out now and reactivated.  The Moon, still in Aries, will form a square (challenging aspect) to Mars that will be felt as early as 9-10 am although the alignment is not exact until 1:08 pm EST.  The Moon in Aries wants what it wants, and in a square to Mars it wants it even more and then is blocked from getting it.  There is potential for frustration here, and the need to take a few deep breaths and then run around the block to blow off some steam.

That’s the last aspect the Moon will make until it enters the stability of Taurus at 5:09 pm EST, so between 1 and 5 it will be “void of course.”  This is not the ideal time to begin something new, the energy is somewhat static at that time.  But it’s a great time to complete a project or to engage in an activity that will help to expand our knowledge of the world.

Around dinner time the Moon will begin to form a trine (harmonious aspect) to Pluto that will perfect at 9:17 pm EST.  This is a wonderful time of emotional balance and insight – a great time to interact with loved ones.

Neptune in Pisces and the question of reality
Neptune just slipped back into Pisces where it will remain until 2025.  Neptune's role in the astrological pantheon is to cause us to question where the physical world ends and a more transcendent reality begins.  It therefore rules our spiritual experience, but it can also be confusing and induce

Hi Lynn,
Thanks for new Skywatch for Feb.
Just wondered if you have any take on this new Comet called Lulin.
http://techastronomy.com/article.asp?articleid=42895
Supposed to be its first visit to our inner solar system and as it’s on its way towards Leo and we have an eclipse in Leo on 9 Feb I thought you might have some insight into what its presence signifies. It is now visible to the naked eye so should cause quite a bit of interest from astrologers as it is apparently going “backwards” in the sky. Never heard of a retrograde comet before!
I’d be interested in your views on its significance.
