Dharmaruci at Astrotabletalk has a great article today. Mars is gearing up to square Pluto on the 27th, and a stressful aspect between those two can be quite intense. Mars deals with the more personal issues of anger and boundaries, and Pluto, as the higher octave of Mars, addresses the larger scale issues of rage and nuclear war.
DR writes:
There is a particularly pokey aspect in the sky at the moment: Mars conjunct Venus, square to Pluto. Mars has just entered Aries, and Venus will do so tomorrow (Friday). Pluto is at 3 degrees Capricorn, so this square will be intensifying until Sunday.
No wonder Hillary Clinton has announced that the situation in nuclear-armed Pakistan represents a ‘mortal threat’ to world security, and also that the US is preparing to up the ante over Iran’s nuclear programme. In today’s New York Times we read: Pushing deeper into Pakistan, Taliban militants have established effective control of a strategically important district just 70 miles from the capital, Islamabad, officials and residents said Wednesday. “They take over Buner, then they roll into Mardan and that’s the end of the game,” a senior law enforcement official in North-West Frontier Province said. …
Venus has in fact been stationing at 29 Pisces. What a place to station, the final degree of the zodiac! The end of an era. How fraught with significance are the outcomes we are now seeing! And the sign Venus is in, Pisces, is one in which she can be very powerful. But not in an aggressive way: we have to wait for Aries for that. You could say that Venus stationing at 29 Pisces means you are, in a sense, helpless: you have to yield. What can the USA do about the Pakistan insurgency? Not much. What can she do about the Iran nuclear programme? Not much, it seems, apart from threatening sanctions, which isn’t going to stop Iran….
Venus is also a planet of money, and Pluto a planet of riches and money as power. So we are now seeing the outcome of the first task of the Obama administration, which was to pump loads of government money into the economy. As Venus has gone direct, so are there the first signs of stability in the economic crisis. Venus stationing at 29 Pisces is also saying, however, that yes you may have had some success in stabilising the economy, but all that could have been done has been done. You can only pump in so much money without building up ridiculous levels of government debt, and there is growing political resistance to further fiscal stimuli. You can’t do much more at this stage beyond waiting and seeing. The US Venus is at 3 Cancer, hard-aspected by the current Venus-Pluto cycle, which shows how economically defining the past few months have been. Obama’s Venus is at 2 Cancer, again hard-aspected by Venus-Pluto, which shows how defining in terms of personal popularity the last few months – his first real test – have been. Stage one of his Presidency – ‘the first 100 days’ – is coming to a close.

An ok article, but his comment on the ‘Chosen Race’ is rather inappropriate to his overall point, and in and of itself racist.

How can Israel be a “racist” state when Israelis can be of any “race”?

Israel is supposed to be a Jewish state, and Arabs who live in Israel do not have the same rights. There is an interesting phenomenon here which I wrote about here: http://blog.beliefnet.com/astrologicalmusings/2008/12/israel-palestine-and-the-scape.html
I’ll quote myself, if I may:
So with the scapegoat dynamic we have both a perpetrator and a victim, and that dynamic becomes internalized within the individual. Some people suffer terrible abuse and never go on to abuse others, but for some the cycle of victim/perpetrator becomes internalized and the one who is abused becomes the perpetrator him/herself.
I see this quite plainly in the Israeli/Palestinian situation. The modern nation of Israel was established to rescue the victims of the Holocaust, but in order to establish the nation, the fledgling Israeli nation had to fight with the local Arabs in order to expand Israeli territory. Now the victim (Israel) becomes the perpetrator. The Palestinians become the victims, not only of Israeli expansion but also in the refusal of neighboring Arab nations to permit them to enter these countries as refugees. At first, Palestinian violence against Israel was mainly intended to help Palestinians return to their homes, but later as the collective rage against Israel grew, this violence became more generalized.
Now the Palestinians are also the perpetrators. At the same time, Israel is portrayed as a victim against the aggression of Lebanon and Iran. So both the Israelis and Palestinians are locked in a cycle of victim/perpetrator that has no end.

Seems, Pluto’s underworld vibe is showing us the seamy/dysfunctional side of the world stage in this evolving dynamics (already seeing it in Iraq, North Korea, and Pakistan). Prayer and maintaining a higher frequency/perspective are effective ways to offset this wave of negativity.
Beyond the political/cultural spin and implications, I sense the next 10 days can be a proactive and productive period on a personal level. Suggestions include taking time to reflect how your life is structured (Capricorn) and just exactly which aspects of that structure are ready for dissolving (Pluto), revision and upgrade. Use Mars energy proactively to energize and move the process forward (thru the 28th). Use Venus’ focus of beauty and arts (through 5/3) to bring a clearer perspective/understanding of what’s going to work on a nurturing level over the next 15 months. Beyond the Pluto dynamics, plenty of Aries fuel to get this energy moving.
Looking further ahead, Venus and Mars occupy the same energetic space waiting for Saturn (form/structure) come this November, then again in April 2010. As Saturn rules Capricorn and time, the outcome of this restructuring phase may be more in alignment with the rapidly shifting tides and currents coming our way in April – July 2010, when Saturn and Uranus come back to opposition. Time (Saturn) will sure let us know in no uncertain terms whether the current changes are in alignment with this rapidly evolving mythos.

Rage and nuclear war? It’s gonna be a hot time on the old planet for sure.

Mars and Pluto don’t have to combine in rage and nuclear war – they can combine in power and magic. It all depends on the elevation of human consciousness.
Let’s not forget, Joseph, the square of Saturn to Pluto in November when Saturn enters Libra. That ought to be interesting as well!

Indeed Lynn. Saturn’s impact with Uranus (Sept), then with Pluto (end of year), again with Uranus (April ’10), then the 3 together (July ’10) is going to ultimately reshape alliances, structures – financial and corporate entities, and the flow of commerce. This pot is really starting to boil now! Add Neptune/Chiron square Mercury in Taurus (nearing an intense retrograde) to this mix (eg virus breakout) and the stage is set for a very unsettling, albeit transformational, period.
