Apart from the misunderstanding among many people that astrology is bogus science, never mind art, I think there is an unconscious fear within the collective that astrology might have more than a semblance of accuracy...because if it were accurate, then it would be accurate about the truth (big Truth and little truths). And that possibility is very fear-inducing.
Apropos of this...the other day Sri Lankan authorities "arrested a popular astrologer who predicted the president would be ousted from office"...("astrology is profoundly influential in Sri Lankan society and could be perceived as a threat to" the current president's rule). I suppose using astrology to bait the president was foolhardy, given the political climate in Sri Lanka.
In the coming years as astrology more and more enters the purview of collective consciousness, we will see the spectre of restricting regulation looming over the field / practice of astrology within nations. It would be helpfully self-protective if astrology saw this well ahead of time and began to regulate itself in a more integrated way than currently.

Interesting comments, all, thank you!
Yoshi, trying to regulate astrologers would be worse than herding cats. :) There are efforts made to do this, with certification exams and various astrology schools and that is excellent. But there will always be practitioners who are more concerned about their ego than in really assisting the client and that is difficult to foresee. I suppose at some point the government could insist on licensing astrologers just as they do other professionals, with continuing education etc. But then who would decide which branch of astrology is accepted and which is not? Astrology is a Uranian science and therefore cannot, by definition be regulated. :)

Well, on his own dime (or pound), sure. I'm not at all sure why "[pursuing] his interest in alternative medicine" is something he would expect taxpayers to cover.
Thanks for posting this story.

I think this will be a Big problem in the future: imagine getting a fine or even going to jail (or getting sued 0_o) for practising astrology "without a license" :(
And I think this will come about when Pluto enters Aquarius. And it will be a way for Orthodox (sp?) Power to Control the larger and larger influence of Astrology in Society - by Insisting on a license. I hope that, as usual, Uranus will rebel. I hope. I believe that controling those who can practice Astrology is the same as controling knowledge.

An astrologer from Argentina, http://WWW.ZODIACGUILLE.COM is predicting right now that a country from Asia with the letter “M” is going to have a huge change (I guess it is Myanmar) because the leadership of a sick man under Aquarius Sign is going to explote in his umbilical part of his body. He also said that the country will be GOVERN further under the sign of a GEMINI person. Apart from this, Zodiacguille said that an old name is coming back for happiness of his people.
Then, the argentine horoscope man sent a message to Sri Lanka Goverment begging to liberate the arrested Astrologer Chandrasiri BANDARA saying " Please, MERCY Dear President Mahinda Rajapakse for him, because his relate is maybe a mistake..."
The Argentine Astrologer said: "If it is neccesary to travel to Sri Lanka I may go on behalf of all the associated astrologers world wide. Chandrasiri is press astrologer so the roles are acceptable and maybe there is a mistake".
This Astrologer Don Zodiac Guille also predicted the civil-military destitution for the President Zelaya in Honduras, but he also predicted that the President will returns to power.(Dorys Dodier from Madrid – Spain

I'm glad you say this with a :), ... :).
The communist revolution was a Uranian movement based on Karl Marx / Friedrich Engels' (and Vladimir Lenin's) philosophy of practical scientific dialectical materialism (please note Marx's Ascendant in Aquarius and Uranus in Sagittarius in the 10th House Conjunct Neptune ahead of it and his MC before). The Industrial Revolution was Uranian as well. Please note the "regulation" following on the heels of these 2 momentous courses in human history.
Regulation was meant to bring 'order' to chaotic revolution, order being a need and fixation of Saturnian authority.
With or without putting out a shingle, to practice astrology effectively one needs to apply one's own Saturn and Pluto...and not to forget Mercury, while Uranus remains the 'logos' of the science of the art (the art derived via Neptune and Pallas).
Eventually, the issue of regulation by the authorities concerned is going to enter the picture in a way we may not want to think about now. Getting things more together in advance then, astrology can take on both Uranus and Saturn at the integration point...the Midpoint between the two...Uranus / Saturn. Perhaps it was Melanie Reinhart who wrote re. this point, from where Chironian energy could emanate to mediate between 2 very contrastive planets, or natures (*Chiron and the Healing Journey*).
I discussed this with my astrologer friend, who has the contemplative asteroid *Samadhi* at his Saturn / Uranus. I couldn't pry too much out him because he says his issue is still a work in progress. He did say dealing with 'authorities' is definitely a challenge to one's patience...and samadhi helps to take one beyond patience and lubricates one's intuitive function.
And bureaucrats and politicians studying astrology may have its good point in keeping astrologers on their toes.

My point was only that if politicians are going to use taxpayer money for things outside of their immediate job description I would rather see a few hundred pounds used for the study of astrology than thousands of pounds or dollars for prostitutes. :)
Astrology is ruled by Aquarius, which means it is at once Uranian and Saturnian. I have Saturn square to Uranus in my chart and I can tell you it's a difficult combination to balance!

Lynn...whatever it is that's glitchy via this Firefox (including me at this point in time), am going to chance another post...
...your comment above...I can see even your 1st para. above (July 2nd, 8:50 AM) carries your "Saturn square to Uranus," which, if astrology is "at once Uranian and Saturnian" and you being an astrologer, must be a signature aspect of yours...re. which aspect I can empathize with on its difficulty, even though I don't have it myself.
As for astrology being ruled by Aquarius, I recall Robert Hand (whom I much respect) mentioning the Uranian element. I lean more toward Sagittarius as the basic sign, as astrology fundamentally is metaphysics -- [search for] higher knowledge re. man and the cosmos -- and therefore feel belongs, as a 'study / learning,' in the 9th (yes, I did forget Jupiter in my 4:59 AM post above). But the practice of astrology can certainly be Aquarian, because we are disseminating its wisdom for the benefit of others / mankind.
Btw, Lynn...have you looked at the Sabian symbol of your Uranus-Saturn midpoint from a Chironian perspective ???

A week ago, the very well known TV future teller, Chandrasiris Bandara, was arrested by Colombo City sri lankan Police because he predicted the President of the Nation would be removed from office in Sri Lanka.
Without giving details of statements in his e-mail sent to srilakan Government, the argentinian horoscope man told "I am trying my best for Chandrasiris to get freedeom". He also added in his site, wwww.zodiacguille.com, two URLs, one corresponding to Mr. Bandara and, of course, the other: Sri Lanka President´s official web.
"Up to now, I couldn´t log in Chandrasiris´blog; it seems "stars" aren´t helping..." he joked. "but President´s site is quite interesting and easy to contact with His Excellency ..."
Many astrologers all over the world are on "esoteric" expectation about the Sri Lankan Government decision. To finish, Don Zodiac Guille said: "I would respectfully like to have a look on the Mundane Astral Chart already built by Mr. BANDARA because the Police want a logical explanation about those political predictions on President Mahinda Rajipaksa´s destitution".
Don Zodiac Guille ended saying :"Astrology is a millenary social practice...so we have to moderate our concepts when a Country Chart is going to be published specially if the land situation is difficult"
