Barbara Hand Clow was one of the first astrologers to identify the wounding and healing process of Chiron that I work with in my own practice, and I owe her and her excellent work a great deal. She is doing some groundbreaking work now that some may find a bit out there, but I suspect in a few years we’ll see that she was right all along, just as she was 30 years ago.
Here’s an excerpt from something she wrote about the Chiron/Neptune conjunction that we’re in the middle of right now. You can read more about it on her site.
We astrologers talk on and on about Neptune as a guide for connecting with spirit worlds. It has become a cliché, and most people just don’t think about what that means. So, I will attempt to find other words to describe Neptune’s influence. Most of the time, we are separated out from all-that-is, the timeless energy fields of our cosmic bodies. We are caught in time and place, and then once in awhile we experience a breakthrough into all-that-is-a peak experience. When this happens, the boundaries around our separated selves melt, and we experience “oneness” or enlightenment. Children frequently exist in oneness-especially infants-but then painful experiences cause them to close up and separate from divine consciousness. While we are alive, Chiron’s transits-usually by conjunction, square, and opposition-erode the boundaries of the separated self by means of piercing stabs into deep inner wounds. When these wounds occurred in this life or past lives, we erected boundaries around the wounds, yet the very energy that could reconnect us with spirit-Neptune-is locked out. So, Chiron and Neptune working together can erode these boundaries that block cosmic fusion. In other words, accessing pain sometimes opens spiritual connection, and this is what we resist the most.

Thank you Lynn.
My Chiron/Neptune Experience…. 11 years ago my sister died under terrible circumstances. She left behind a son who was just six years old at the time, who against all odds grew up into an amazing person… Anyway, he graduated high school last week and family/friends all gathered to celebrate graduation/scholarship/hard work for a dinner party afterwards, that was unknowingly booked in restaurant in the same block where my sister had died. It was the first time we had all gotten together since her death and without going into lengthy details… it was incredibly cathartic to be gathered for such a joyous occasion -her son “stepping off into manhood” one of the most wonderful nights of “our” lives. And to feel my sisters presence so strongly, and have her memory attached to something good for a change was incredible. None of us expected that, but it was so healing and powerful… I cried for days with joy….

Denise, thanks so much for sharing this story. This is a beautiful example of the healing power of the kind of catharsis that Chiron brings, and the combination with Neptune is reaching deep into the soul.

I should admit that I am blessed with natal Neptune in Sagittarius in my Rising Sign. In very first sight, I can reach the depth of the soul and the situation. Neptune in Sagittarius in in Rising Sign/First House means being always remain the state of Peak Experience. Since my natal Neptune is retrograde, the power and influence of Neptune is at its peak. When I read or scan words, pictures and sketches, they themselves speak to me explaining and defining their true meanings lies in them.
Fortunately, transitting Jupiter-Neptune-Chiron Conjunction in my 3rd House in Aquarius is sextiling to my natal Neptune in Sagittarius in my Rising Sign/First House. It means that it is now time that I have been allowed to communicate my Peak Experiences with pain, wounds and sufferings of my natal Chiron in my 6th House in Taurus.

I discovered Hand Clow in the early 1980′s….. one of her first books was the Eye of the Centaur..a view into her past life experiences mixed with native american wisdom, shamanism, astrology, cosmology, and mythology. It was extremely ahead of it’s time, as Barbara is one of the Great Teachers around today.
I highly recommend any of her wonderful books…all of which I have read…there is nothing else to compare to her wonderful insights and wisdom.
