by Lynn HayesTed Kennedy died last night of brain cancer at the age of 77. He was a controversial figure in many ways, but there is no denying that he was a tireless champion for the rights of those less...
Hi Lynn: I notice that the epithet "the lion of the Senate" keeps appearing in various articles about Senator Kennedy. Looking at his appearance, he does have that big shock of white hair, even though his outer appearance is not sleekly leonine. He has Capricorn rising, so where in his chart are the traits that earned him that appellation?

With Neptune in its detriment conjunct the moon opposing that stellium in the 2nd, Kennedy spent a lifetime fighting his personal demons. One senses that this man was in some ways conflicted and often in turmoil -but then aren't we all in some ways. However it is equally true, as eloquently stated by 'the anchoress' that “the quiet altruism of a public man is always overshadowed by the noise of his sins.” Ironic that his death affords a chance for political opportunists to demand passage of a bloated and flawed heath care bill in his honor, unmindful of the fact that the privileged benefits extended to congressional members afforded him extraordinary end of life measures despite the inevitable. As with Michael Jackson, the MSM will over-extend coverage, the Washington elite will erect obelisks, and his church will ignore the theoretical conflicts despite the flaws and sins of this mortal man. May he rest in peace

"The lion of the Senate" refers less to Kennedy's physical appearance and more to his roaring speeches in defense of the poor and the fact that he was so relentless in his pursuit of social justice. We can see this in the conjunction of Mars (aggression) to Mercury (speech and thought) in Aquarius (the sign of social justice).

Why they refer to him as "The Lion of the Senate" and "Liberal Lion" is because he has Jupiter in Leo. Jupiter is where his "wants" and "goals" are met. Who you want to become, is who you end up being. He's truly a Pisces with Leo coloring all over it. He truly served in a grand way.

Thank you Lynn for your insight. "Ted fought the law, and the law won..." Bobby Fuller Four Neptune influence: He served as subcommittee chair to The Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Sea Power, one of six subcommittees within the Senate Armed Services Committee. The Seapower Subcommittee has jurisdiction over all U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, including non-tactical air programs, and the Naval Reserve forces. For most of us mere mortals the "Law" is Saturn. For Ted, the "Law" was Neptune. See: Astrology and Alcoholism: Genetic Key to the Horoscope Astrology Series by Ann E. Parker
