13 things scientists don’t understand

posted by Lynn Hayes

I love a good mystery, and you probably do too.  Check out these 13 THINGS SENT TO TRY US from Michael Brooks via New Scientist – it’s almost enough to make you think there is more to this Universe than scientists can understand:

1.  Radiation left from the big bang is still glowing in the sky – in a
mysterious and controversial pattern.
2.  Something unseeable and far bigger than anything in the known universe is
hauling a group of galaxies towards it at inexplicable speed.
3.  Tens of millions of years ago, the average temperature at the poles was 15 or
20 °C. Now let’s talk about climate change!
4.  Space probes using Earth’s gravity to get a slingshot speed boost are moving
faster than they should. Call in dark matter.
5.  The fusion of two distinct evolutionary lines is not supposed to work – but
the seas are teeming with chimeras that prove it can.
The other 8 mysteries and more details on each one here…

Sunday inspiration: Trusting the future
Astrologers have a reputation, which we ourselves and our forbears have propagated, of being able to foretell the future.  If you run a Google search for "Can astrology predict the future," the very first article is from a well-known astrology site titled "Predicting the future with astrology."

Neptune in Pisces and the question of reality
Neptune just slipped back into Pisces where it will remain until 2025.  Neptune's role in the astrological pantheon is to cause us to question where the physical world ends and a more transcendent reality begins.  It therefore rules our spiritual experience, but it can also be confusing and induce

Sunday inspiration: The Great Nest of Being

Didn’t think I’d be back….never say never as I often say.
Interesting (but not a mystery) no comments here yet. Guess readers are not into mysteries as Lynn is. If you don’t “love a good mystery,” how can you do astrology ???
The reason scientists (in general) don’t understand these ’13 things,’ I feel, is their training. They’ve accepted the indoctrination of scientific thinking to such a degree, they can’t stand to stand outside of it. There is no mystery there in such thinking, for sure.
None of these 13 things are supposed to make sense. Because Reality is not supposed to ‘make sense.’ It just is. There are / will be NO END TO MYSTERIES. They ‘happen’ to me all the time, and I don’t even try to solve them (I had 2 the other day which only got a bit of puzzling and a ‘hmmm’ out of me) though mysteries they definitely are, compared to the usual.
Of course, this is a matter of degree. For example, astrological mysteries can turn up ‘answers’ to a certain, somewhat satisfactory degree. But if you really probe, there’ll be a mystery behind that which you can’t get past.
As for the question of why magnetic poles always come paired and never alone….i.e., where is the elusive monopole ? ……..in a sense that is a dumb question. Without difference, there will be no movement, no energy flow, no life…..only stasis (in our normally accepted physical sense). OK….the stasis just before the next big bang would be the exception (but is not really a stasis)…..the monopole source of life at its greatest, which after continues on as the matrix of all manifestations of difference. In ourselves, that is the One True Mind integral with universal ‘essence.’ But why that monopole is forever elusive is due to our modern human insistence that we feel we’ve got to understand it (the ‘I’ that ‘wants’ ‘it’ is our perennial obstacle).
Let’s quit here and not ruin the mystery. Let’s continue to just wonder, puzzle a bit and marvel.
