As the world knows by know, Tiger Woods was in a car accident in the wee hours of Sunday morning. As he was driving away from his home in Florida he backed into a fire hydrant and hit a tree. He was found with lacerations on his face that evidently occurred from an altercation with his wife as the result of revelations of an affair that Woods had with a nightclub hostess and possible others.
Regardless of what happens in Woods’s personal life, his public image has taken a big hit.
I won’t take the time right now for a detailed analysis of Woods’s astrological chart, but a brief overview reveals that he has the Sun in Capricorn which is the sign of success and achievement. Virgo is rising in the chart (born December 30, 1975 at 10:50 pm, Cypress CA), which reveals his methodical approach to the golf game and his persona and appearance (as represented by the ascendant) of a modest perfectionist (Virgo). His Moon, though, tells a different story – his Moon (representing his emotional needs) is in freedom-loving Sagittarius, optimistic at heart and full of confidence. That confidence is expanded by a very big Jupiter (planet of optimism and good fortune) in the assertive sign of Aries, revealing his inner competitive nature.
Uranus is the planet that inspires reckless behavior and urges us to break free of the shackles in our lives that restrict us. Uranus has been an important influence for Tiger Woods since May of 2008 when it crossed the cusp of Woods’s seventh house of marriage, transiting back and forth over the next 18 months. At the same time Uranus was in a challenging square (90 degree) formation to his Moon and the Midheaven of his chart, signifying his career. Clearly this has been a time of intense inner turmoil and perhaps a desire to shatter the confines of his very controlled and public life.
Woods’s progressed chart is quite active as well. The progressed chart evolves over time just as we do, and his progressed Midheaven (public reputation) crossed his progressed Saturn (tests and challenges) last month as the rumors began to build.
Had Tiger Woods consulted with an astrologer earlier this year he would have been warned of the potential for a public relations problem with the Saturn/Midheaven in the progressed chart, and understanding the nature of the Uranus transit might have helped him to be a little more cautious in his activities. It’s not likely that the damage will be permanent, though – transiting Jupiter will make a harmonious trine to the Midheaven in his natal chart in a couple of weeks and smooth everything over.

Uranus has helped me release some shackles that have been holding me back for many, many years. Since going retrograde this summer it has taken me on a tremendous journey Yesterday when it went forward it shook up my whole life.Lynn thanks for shining a light on all of these planetary events you’ve helped me more than you’ll know

This is a lucky man, earned over a billion, things will get smoothed over, very lucky. The nature of golf is extreme concentration. Most golfers try to have very healthy and stable lives. One reason is they have to be totally focused when they are competing. I bet this incident hurts his game. In baseball and football and others we have teams where a player can spread his pain out. In golf it is you and the club and the little white ball–and your mind.

Is domestic violence OK when it’s the woman doing the beating? Funny how Chris Brown has been castigated the world over and his career destroyed due to his abuse of Rihanna, whilst in contrast there seems to be no criticism of Tiger’s wife for beating her husband up with a golf stick and putting him in hospital. In fact the only person expected to be punished in any way for this is actually Tiger! I wonder what the astrology is for this reverse sexism?

Dave … what an interesting take on this.
Lynn … as always, great insight. Thanks.

Dave, I was raised on “girls are sugar and spice and everything nice”. And “if a marriage isn’t working out, the man isn’t doing his job”. It was a rude awakening to find out that women aren’t virginal saints and men aren’t devils. The bias exists all over the place, especially in the court system.

Hey Dave,
Interesting point, but as men still get the upper hand in income, aging, health research and such, I think I’ll be able to hold back my sobs and sympathy for Tiger.
I’m bad, but I can’t help but laugh at the idea of her hitting him with a golf club… sort of humorous, isn’t it? Those clubs were his making, and his undoing (besides of course his healthy libido).
Thanks for a great post Lynn, as usual.

Thanks for your comments, everyone. I just want to respond to Dave about the comparison with Rihanna/Chris Brown – I think people generally feel that when there’s infidelity involved it’s more understandable that a spouse would be angry enough to get physical, although I’m not saying it’s ever ok to go after someone with a golf club. Interesting metaphor, though, isn’t it!

96% of spousal abuse is man against woman.

Yes, please do spare us the reasons behind his sleazy behavior and arrogant choices. I could not care less about his public image; my only concern is the feelings of his children’s mother. To find out that her husband has been cheating on her for many years with many women must feel like a kick in the gut. So to heck with him, really. If this humiliation is what he needs to grow up and begin honoring his wife and family, well, great! I cannot even believe how I would feel with two kids and that situation hanging over me. My heart goes out to Elin.

While it seems essential to throw stones at any perpetuator of such behavior, the bigger lesson for society continues to be elusive. Hence, these dramas repeat themselves over and over. In this world of the 24×7 news cycle nothing goes unnoticed for long, yet those in the spotlight seem to think they’re impervious to its effect.
In a bigger sense, life is about evolving and dissolving archetypes. In this situation, we once again witness the rise and the fall of the “hero”. Will Tiger rise again to glory, vanquishing his inner and outer demons while rescuing his damsel in distress? This old theme has been played out so many times in our world of entertainment, sports and business. It’s akin to reading the same book over and over. Eventually, it becomes “beyond boring”. Perhaps the building cardinal squares of 2010 – 2015 between Saturn, Uranus (with major help from Jupiter) and Pluto will once and for all send this tragic archetypal theme to its grave, replacing it with something more life giving.
In Tiger Woods case, his problems are far from over. Life for him over the next 5 years will send him many challenging waves courtesy of the Cardinal Square trio, altering/transforming his Sun in Capricorn and Jupiter in Aries. Meanwhile, his Venus in Scorpio has yet to receive its final lesson courtesy of Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune in Aquarius. That takes place over the next year or so. Life will never again be the same for Tiger and his fans. The Queen song “another one bits the dust” comes to mind.

M.W.F that is a pretty useless statistic. Men don’t report this kind of abuse generally, even if it happens. Also, women are more prone to other forms of abuse than physical, but those forms are just as damaging. This is a discussion for another forum though. I’m done posting about it here.

i think his personal problems should be kept private. if Elvis were alive today, he’d be sunk too ! he did the same things as Tiger did. but we live in ” a gotta know it all now” world and it’s a tragedy.

I have mixed feelings about doing celebrity profiles. On the one hand, celebrities make a lot of money by putting themselves out there in the public eye, and once they’re in the public eye what they do is very visible. Because these are people that many of us know, they make very interesting and educational astrological profiles. On the other hand, it’s difficult to live in a fishbowl. But I personally believe that someone who seeks fame has to deal with the consequences of that fame and I don’t feel too sorry for Tiger Woods.

Robert Phoenix did a really wild post on Tiger Woods, Jay-Z, sex magic and Global Warming.

That really is a wild article by Robert. But I disagree with his characterization of the third house, which is experimental but not in itself particularly kinky. Tiger has Venus in Scorpio, which is very sexual and very aware of the flow of energy during sex, what we call “tantra.” This would probably make a good post for Sasstrology in fact!
