More on the astrology of the Haiti earthquake

Charitywatch.org has posted its list of the best charities for the Haiti relief effort. Note that Red Cross is not on this list.  My personal preference for disaster charities is either Americares or Oxfam America.

I took a look at the chart for Haiti from my Book of World Horoscopes by Moon Moore, and I’ve posted it here for you to look at if you’re interested.  Moon used midnight for the time of inception, and unfortunately he is no longer traveling the earth plane for us to ask his reasoning.  The chart for this time does seem to have a great deal of significance, and has been activated by the current planetary transits.
This chart has four planets in Capricorn, including a triple conjunction of the Sun, Chiron and Mars straddling the Nadir of the chart.  The nadir of a mundane (national) chart describes the fate of its people, and this is a strongly nationalistic chart.  Capricorn has to do with government and structure and morals that hold a society together, but the presence of Chiron here, especially at the Nadir of the chart which represents the psychology and the mood of the people, is very telling.
Saturn in the chart falls in the twelfth house which traditional astrologers view as a malefic placement – the lord of Karma in the house of Karma.  A twelfth house Saturn isn’t easy to manage, but in this chart it is exactly square to Mars, Mars in a national chart signifies the military and the nation’s ability to defend itself, and Saturn is in a constant challenge to Haiti’s Mars.  Saturn also is in a square to both Chiron and the Sun, which creates constant challenges and tests.
Haiti is in a Saturn return right now, with Saturn in the sky at 3 degrees Libra and exactly conjunct Saturn in the Haitian chart.  As we’ve been discussing in this column, Saturn and Pluto are preparing to align in an exact 90 degree angle, a “square,” which is a challenging aspect forcing distress and turmoil into the open.  This is a tremendously powerful alignment that we would expect to create challenges for the people of Haiti.
The transits over the next few months are equally challenging.  Saturn is turning retrograde on Friday, so it is at a virtual standstill as its apparent motion from earth prepares to change direction.  This creates a more powerful influence and the necessity for an enormous amount of hard work and rebuilding.
The real trauma will likely not come until early March when transiting Chiron opposes the Moon in the Haiti chart.  Chiron represents emotional wounds, and clearly this horrific event will create a deep wound from which the country will not soon recover.
Over the next few years Saturn, Pluto and Uranus will all be aligned in the sky, instigating a fair amount of celestial havoc.  This havoc will all be directly aspecting the challenging system in the chart of Haiti, which suggests that a big transformation is likely to take place there.
I hope that in the devastation of this poor country the people of the world can unite and bring the people of Haiti the relief they so desperately need.
The square from Saturn to Pluto falls right on the

the lord of Karma in the house of Karma.
Televangelist Pat Robertson made insensitive comments about “the Devil” on television just recently in describing Haiti’s plight. Saturn has been called the old devil. Perhaps ol’ Pat is unwittingly articulating this energetic event and making an ass of himself yet again, and perhaps in the process incurring some karma of his own.

I agree with you K, can you imagine claiming Haiti once made a pact with the devil when actually we know there is no evil or devil only degrees of good. This guy doesn’t help anyone except he loves to have himself spoken about in the media. God is so great that he forgives Pat Robertson before Pat can ask for forgiveness.

Pat Robertson is a nutcase, M.W.F., but it is incredibly naive and wrongheaded to assert that “there is no evil or devil only degrees of good.” All you need to do is look at human history to know there is true evil in the world. Its origin is debatable, I suppose, but I don’t know what you call someone like Hitler if not evil.

It’s not the first time Robertson has made this kind of statement. Didn’t he say Katrina hit New Orleans as God’s punishment for sins? I hope it doesn’t detract from the tragedy of the Haiti situation to note that the Dominican Republic, which is on the same island, has had a very different history and consequently, very different ecology. In fact, I think I’ll research the chart to see what is different there.

A -I don’t see the big picture as someone like Jesus or Buddha did and I know there have been some horrible acts by very bad people, and what I expressed above was just my attitude.
My 6th grade teacher once told me, (I went to school in a very dangerous vicinity of Brooklyn, NY) she said if she was being stabbed and mugged she would want 2 seconds to live justto forgive her attacker. This is not a worldly attitude but many people share it.
The world portrays people in certain ways, I can accept that, I don’t have to buy it.

Just a note on the Red Cross, my stepmon’s brother went through the hurricane Katrina ordeal. He watched the Red Cross SELL water and supplies to the needy while the Salvation Army gave freely what they had. That was enough for me to realize Red Cross is NOT an organization I will support no matter how many celebrities ask me to.

My horoscope for Leo today says” don’t look back;there’s no use being hard on yourself for something you didn’t know.” I’ve had a revelation recently and understand something that has eluded me up until now.( I believe I’m in my second saturn return @41years old). The pain I’ve lived with many years was caused by someone who purposely inflicted these injuries on me when I was around 17-18 years old. The injuries grew inside of me over a long period of time rendering me helpless since around 1996. So struggling has been a way of life for me.Are some people evil ?—yes!! If you would of told me in ‘ 96 I would have to persevere as long as I have I would of said I couldn’t make it but I have! Somehow GOD gives you the strength and I’ve been healing since Aug. 26th 2009 when a giant cold sore showed up in my mouth.I still have the sore but it’s healing. The people of Haiti will have a long journey and may GOD be with them!

American Red Cross was third on the list…so I guess they think they’re still okay. Selling water is not cool however.
Pat Robertson is crazy. I wish Christians would stand up against him, he gives them a bad name.

For Jenni OMG–I’m very glad you are on your healing journey and I mean that.:-)
However, just for information–you can’t be in your 2nd Saturn Return at age 41.
Saturn takes 29 yrs to go through the entire zodiac. Our first is at around age 28-30, and our second is at about age 57-59.If we live to be 87 or so we may even have a 3rd one.
What you’re going through at your age is early middle age and is affected most by quarter cycles of Uranus.
You mioght be interested in reading Barbara Hand Clow’s book on sexuality and mid-cycles and that.:-)

I think the same problem that prevented help getting to the Katrina victims is also happening in Haiti. Just because it is scary and life threatening to just go in to help. The Americans are waiting till they get all their bases in order. They fear even losing one American amid the chaos that three million people are going through. I don’t blame them but the longer they wait the worse it gets because people become more desperate. Home land security treated New Orleans with such fear; poor, black crowds roaming the streets, so they held back. You will notice up till now four am on Saturday most of the crews that went in to save lives were foreign. All this information I got from watching: Fox, CNN, MSNBc.

Karaina thank you for your insight! I do think Uranus is having its way with me because the sore showed up around its retrograde late summer and bled badly the day before it went forward late last year. I do apprericate your concern!

Karaina it wasn’t a saturn return but I’ve had a series of Saturn transits which I believe is in Libra now but retrogrades back in my Virgo for a short time. Before 2 1/2 years in Virgo it was in my Leo and before that 2 1/2 years in Cancer so I am fortunate enough to have a series of transits?

Around 42 years old, one goes through Saturn Opposition. This transit affects the two houses in your horoscope and yes, it’s part of the middle life crisis factor.

Thanks, Lynn. You said in the post, “a challenging aspect forcing distress and turmoil into the open”. These poor people have been living in destitution for many years before this earthquake. Hopefully, their distress and turmoil will finally shake us into recognizing the extent of their difficulties and the help they need.

I live in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Do you think there is possibility to have another earthquake in Haiti in the coming months or weeks, if we still have those challenging aspects?
