Beginning late in December, with Saturn and Pluto aligned in a tight challenging square formation, seismic activity began to activate the Eyjafjallojokull volcano area. The challenging square formation creates a buildup of energy that necessitates a release, often an explosion or crisis of some kind. Obviously, the Saturn/Pluto square has not caused volcanic eruptions everywhere, but this is an interesting coincidence. Pluto is the god of destruction and regeneration, and as it travels through the earthy sign of Capricorn I have long predicted an upsurge in volcanic and earthquake activity along with other earth changes, particularly next year when Uranus and Pluto begin to square off in a challenging battle. This seismic activity gave rise to a number of small earthquakes beneath the volcano, and by late February GPS readings showed the earth had begun to quickly displace. Between the 3rd and the 5th of March, close to 3,000 earthquakes were measured at the epicenter of the volcano (source: Wikipedia). The current volcanic eruption is thought to have begun around 11 pm local time on March 20. At the time the Sun had just entered Aries and was opposed by Saturn, setting off the Saturn/Pluto square. At the time of the eruption, Neptune was sitting right on the IC of the chart for the local area, suggesting the presence of the water element and the presence of fog or mist. Shortly after this initial eruption, a flow meter device recorded a sudden and unprecedented rise in water level and water temperature. On April 14th, at the time of the New Moon in the early degrees of Aries (fire and initiation), the volcano resumed its eruptions, causing flooding and the release of a large cloud of volcanic ash that closed the airspace in Iceland and Norway. By April 15th most of the United Kingdom was also closed to air travel, and the large cloud of volcanic ash quickly spread to other parts of Europe. A look at the geodetics of the situation provides a clue to the location of this event. Geodetic astrology is the fascinating application of astrology to the geodetic map, beginning with the zero degree Aries point at the Greenwich meridian. Using this system, the Midheaven line of Reyjkavic in Iceland is located at about 9 degrees of Aries, in a close aspect to both the Saturn/Pluto square and the Aries New Moon. The other area of the world closely affected by these planetary alignments is Los Angeles and San Diego, with the Midheaven in the early degrees of Capricorn and the Ascendant in the early degrees of Aries. This area also experienced heightened seismic activity recently. And unrelated to the geodetics of the situation but corresponding to the Aries New Moon, a fireball blazed in the sky throughout the midwest states of the US on Wednesday night as the fiery Aries New Moon squared off against Pluto. Update: Jamie Funk kindly linked to this article and added an interesting fixed star connection: ”The fixed star Scheat is 29pis31. The day of the last New Moon, Saturn was exactly opposite at 29vir31. This is important because Scheat has long been associated with catastrophic events. The influence of Scheat is gaining strength as Uranus is applying within one degree of this star, soon to be followed in conjunction with Jupiter. Aviation has been effected before when planets conjunct Scheat, as discussed in Jupiter Conjunct Uranus – Scheat 2010.”

Hi Lynn,
Two things come to mind. First; the April 14th Aries New Moon closely squares the Jan 15th solar eclipse. Second; using the Astrology weekly.com chart for Iceland as a reference point (June 17, ’44 – http://www.astrologyweekly.com/countries/iceland.php ) the approaching Saturn-Uranus opposition in late April will be t squaring Iceland’s natal Saturn (29 Gemini) with Pluto conjoining the midheaven in square to natal Neptune at the asc. with natal Mars at 15 Leo right at the mid point.
What most of the news media is not reporting is that the last time this particular volcano erupted almost 200 years ago, it lasted for a little over one year. If past history is any indication, air travel may be disrupted intermittently for quite some time. In this day and age of air travel, the economic fallout to the airline industry could be devastating.
Iceland Volcano Eruption Could Last Months
The last time Iceland’s Eyjafjallajokull volcano blew, the eruption lasted more than a year, from December 1821 until January 1823, reports Sally Sennert, a geologist at the Smithsonian Institution.
“This seems similar to what’s happening now,” she says.

I’ve been planning a trip to iceland and the volcano has put me off. I’m an aries so maybe it is a sign I should go.

Interesting sidebar – Mercury retrograde in Taurus is well underway with retrograde motion beginning tomorrow. In a very Taurus grounding way, most airline flights in Europe have been grounded due to volcanic ash/grit in the atmosphere over Northern Europe, England, etc.
Totally agree about the earth changes, Lynn. With solar maximum building these are going to be very strong geological shifting times over the next two years.

I was just doing astrological workk regarding this volcano last night. I too noticed that the New Moon of this month at 24 Aries squared the January 15, 2010 Solar Eclipse at 25 Capricorn (Venus was also at 25 Capricorn). I found the geodetic ascendant for Reykjavik, Iceland to be 8 Pisces and ascendant to be 28 Cancer. So the Solar Eclipse at 25 Capricorn also opposed the geodetic at 28 Cancer (putting it on the ascendant/descendant axis). Also, the fourth house is usually a strong earth house for earth changes…transiting Saturn 29 Virgo (retrograde) is currently in the fourth geodetic house.
On the Lunar Eclipse chart of December 31, 2009 at 10 Cancer/Capricorn, Saturn was very near the 4th house cusp 7 Libra and opposing the MC 7 Aries.
Also, I find the geodetic (according to my computer program) for San Diego to have an MC of 2 Sagittarius and the ascendant of 18 Aquarius. My program shows Los Angeles to have a geodetic MC of 1 Sagittarius and ascendant of 15 Aquarius. Could our different computer programs be giving us different MC’s and ascendants for the geodetic of these two California locations?
Keep up the good work, I enjoy your interesting and informative articles.

Hi Lynn, this linking of water and Neptune is great. I just read at BBC “It’s the magma mixing with the water that creates the explosivity. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight.”
To add to what you said about Neptune in the event chart, it has been quincunx Saturn for a while.

Thanks Audria, but where are you getting the geodetic information? This is different than the Johndro figures.

I have been following… all the recent serious quakes Haiti, Chile, and The Boxing Day event in the Indian ocean..
The Lighting storms in the “Ash Cloud” is Jupiter and Uranus at play.
1) The New Moon, and Full Moon triggers due to the strain of the communicating larger planets..
2) Pluto is a transforming planet and it’s gravitational influence is more over for long term events – the clean up or rebuilding in the structured sign of Capricorn with Saturn cleaning up old issues in the earth sign of Virgo before his new tasks in his co ruling sign of Libra when he opposes Uranus and Jupiter in Aries. The Volcano may be active over a years time as Saturn’s is in orb. The symbolism is amazing with this old Viking ruled nation
3) Yes, Mercury in retrograde is returning our travel plans to shorter distances at a time instead of of our modern greater distances with Jupiter. With Jupiter’s closing Orb with Uranus the last conjunction of the two giants in Aries every 84 years for the last 600 plus years this conjunction has been moving backwards through Aries. – I can post the exact years of the Uranus and Jupiter conjunction in later reply because I was not studding the tectonic activity when these 2 planets conjunct in Aries every 84 odd years.
5) Looking back at 1821 is when our homework begins – Neptune and Uranus are meeting in Sagittarius while Jupiter is in Aries… The last serious Katla eruption.
6) Today Uranus and Jupiter are opposed a Retro Saturn and then both move into Aries as Jupiter was in April of 1821.
7) The Chile Earth quake was a full moon with a Jupiter conjunction.
9) When the waxing Moon is conjoin Saturn, opposed Jupiter and Uranus this is my prediction when we might begin to see greater activity. All the Planets will be in a real tug a war with tight orbs when the Moon and Saturn – natural opposing partners – have their meeting with our little Earth opposed the Sun at 5 degrees Taurus and Squared Mars in Leo and lets not forget little Pluto at 5 degrees Capricorn. April 24th to 28th will be interesting.
10) Using the actual times of the Boxing Day event in the Indian Ocean, then Haiti, and then Chile – The Haiti and Chile Quakes are even on the same parallel! Shows us that the Event occurs just before the total release of the New Moon or Full Moon Energy!
Until my next observation.

Thanks Lynn for addressing the serious nature of this ‘ash crisis’, and for providing some useful astrological analysis. The article by Jamie Funk is also very interesting. I’ve noticed that not many astrologers are looking into this, but here in Britain and across Europe it is causing untold misery for many travellers.
If Iceland’s second volcano starts to come to life this will intensify on a global scale beyond belief.
