The Tea Party and the fall elections

posted by Lynn Hayes
Tea Party.jpg

From an astrological viewpoint, the Tea Party movement in the United States is a product of the opposition between Saturn (the establishment) and Uranus (the rebel) that began in the fall of 2008 with the election of Barack Obama.  The Tea Party movement culminated with this summer’s planetary alignments that I’ve been calling the Cardinal Drama because so many planets (a total of seven in June and July) were in Cardinal signs.  Cardinal signs are the sign of action, and they tend to act first and think later.

The big political question has been whether the Tea Party movement, which seems a bit extreme to many Americans, will continue into the fall election cycle.   Most of the big wins by the Tea Party occurred during this summer’s cardinal alignments, where there was a tremendous force for change and realignment of the status quo as Jupiter and Uranus, the two liberation planets aligned and challenged Saturn, the planet of conservatism, and Pluto, the planet of death of one cycle and the rebirth of another.  We see this mirrored in slogans such as the one pictured here.

The Tea Party adherents are conservatives who feel that the GOP has strayed from conservative values and that the party needs to be destroyed and rebuilt (this is reflected by Pluto’s passage through Capricorn, where the structures of our society (Capricorn) are dying so that a rebirth can occur (Pluto)).  The September primaries occurred just as Pluto, which has been at a virtual standstill all month, changed direction and was therefore a planetary focal point.

The big question is whether the revolutionary fervor that began in 2009 and 2010 with the Saturn/Uranus opposition and continued all summer under the intense planetary alignments will continue into November, and it appears to me that astrologically, the energy is not there for this kind of radical behavior to carry through to election day.

In the weeks leading up to that first week in November we see the conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus, which in Aries carried so much force, traveling retrograde in Pisces where the watery element can confuse the issue and make this sort of radical change more startling than compelling.  Saturn travels freely without being restricted by any other planet, which suggests that a focus on reality rather than ideology will prevail.

And while Mars will be in Scorpio in the weeks leading up to the election, creating intense wars (Mars) over the balance of power (Scorpio) and probably a fair amount of dirty politics (Scorpio hates to lose), Mars enters optimistic Sagittarius right before the election.  I am going out on a limb to predict that the election night results will be surprising and cannot be foreseen by anything that happens in the preceding weeks.

Regardless of the outcome of the election, we are in for a revolution of some kind and we will see that fervor return in February when Jupiter enters the combative sign of Aries, followed shortly by revolutionary Uranus.  They will then begin to face off against Pluto, instituting the kind of intense power struggles and radical behavior that we saw in the 1960s.

We're deep into Taurus territory now. But with two more weeks to go before the Sun moves into Gemini, let's talk about Taurus -- the bully bull bull. Taurus is known for its extravagance, and also for being chocolate snobs, according to my colleague and fellow writer, Astrologer Maria DeSimone.

Speak your mind today, because tomorrow it's time to give up the gab. Mercury is a pretty chatty planet -- except when it's in Taurus, as it will be from Wednesday, May 9 through Thursday, May 24. Remember -- Taurus is the most practical and inflexible of zodiac signs, and it's also the slowest.

A bigger group of clowns than the tea party hasn’t been seen. They are all clowns, these politicians. Rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic. The conservatives try to return to a past that never was and can never be. The moderates try to maintain a status quo that is in decay. The progresssives refuse to acknowledge that change will no longer be possible using the mechanisms of existing institutional powers….

I hope your right Lynn, the last thing we need is to return to the 1950′s which is where the “nopublicans” and the teabags would like us to go. they want the world to be run by rich white men(no offense to nice regular white men) while the rest of us go sit in the back of the bus. I remember that it was 8 years of FAILED REPUBLICAN FINANCIAL POLICY that got us to this point. I’m willing to allow the Democrats at least 4 years to try to fix it.
you keep up the good work, I find your insights interesting and helpful.

You all pounced on me when I attempted to tell you that BO was not ready for the Presidency. We will not return to the 1950′s we will move out of the supression that has been imposed on us by the greedy DEM’s & REP’s, yes both sides are to blame. You all seem to forget the USA is a Cancerian of the highest level. And please STOP that BS about the failed Republican Financial Policy. There were an equal amount of Democrats that have contributed more that 50 % of the cause to the current effect. STOP BEING BRAIN WASHED BY FEAR AND FALSE REALITY APPEARING REAL. Grow up and accept the responsibility that you all made a BIG mistake in electing a child to do a man’s job. To address one more issue I have with the uninformed. The majority of RICH WHITE MEN are Democrats not Republicans. This should rufflr you feathers a bit. We have another few months of the misguided in control before sanity again takes reign over our land.

I wrote a lengthy, published astrological analysis of Barack Obama in early 2008. I felt then that it was fair but accurate. Nothing I’ve seen since has veered me from the opinion though that he would not be prepared or suited to the presidency. Interesting new article out last week which is only now gaining some attention.

So Human Touch, pounced upon indeed, prescient perhaps, however the upcoming battle will not be between Democrats and Republicans. It will be between stalwart liberal thinkers and equally obtuse conservatives. And yes it will be nasty. I happen to diasagree Lynn on one of your assumptions. There is enough ill will, dismay and indifference, on the loose to oust a goodly portion of office holders come November. I read those transits a bit differently, more akin to the perspective of a secret royalist watching Marie Antoinette heading up the scaffold stairs, just can’t take their eyes off the shocking inevitable.
More shocking and inevitable will be the residue. Obama will be a one termer as he will decide not to run in 2012.

Chiron, can you tell me if McCain/ Sarah Palin had been elected what different decisions he would have made from Obama?
If you actually believe in astrology you would know that the issues that the U.S. faces and will continue to face are tremendous and there are few choices that will satisfy anyone.

That is certainly true, and significant problems unaddressed for many years are not easily solved, and of course I believe in astrology. Don’t you? If not why be here? If you know a little about it you would know that each person has a unique chart echoing the choices and challenges that each individual soul selected in incarnating into this lifetime. The chart is a blue print of that determination. Each person therefore, aside from the obvious individual differences, has a different set of attributes with which they face challenge and stress. Looking at two individual’s charts side by side would not singularly in turn better determine the course of events for a nation. Astrologers would also look to the chart of the nation, for the US most usually the Sibley chart, to see the challenges facing the nation as a whole. Of course you know that the US chart indicates a period of re-adjustment, financial challenge and stressful times. Additionally for a president or national leader the inauguration chart as well as the chart for the political party he/she leads would also bear some significance.
As to your question, no one could tell specifically from the astrology what decisions John McCain would have made differently if elected and faced with the same challenges as the president, since that is simply subject to individual free will. What I can tell you is that with his progressed Moon in the 8th, he would also be fretting about economic national indicators. From other progressions though I would gather than he would be acting much more forcibly on the international stage. With his progressed Sun and Moon in the ninth and the ruler of that house aspected by several progressions, certain events might have been sudden, fortunate and perhaps well perceived. With transiting Pluto squaring his natal Mercury though he may have had issues with communicating his policies to a larger audience, and of course natal Saturn in the 1st wouldn’t assist that and would continue to affect him stressfully in difficult circumstances, although the progressed Sun trining that Saturn would help him be perceived somewhat more favorably with the general public at large and would in turn assist him in communicating his ideas and strategies more effectively and give him some extra inner fortitude while in aspect. These are current for McCain and could be viewed concurrently with his present role in the Senate, and of course is not a full chart analysis, simply a quick reference to succinctly address your question.
