Gerald Celente: Revolution or Renaissance?

by Lynn Hayes

One year after the fall of Lehman Brothers presaged a worldwide economic crisis, futurist Gerald Celente is predicting that a revolution has already begun in the United States. Many are decrying his "doom and gloom" predictions, but he is saying exactly what I have been saying myself: that you can't keep repairing a house that is built on quicksand.  The house has to be taken down and rebuilt on a firmer footing.

To recap the astrological history: The entry of Pluto into Capricorn in January of 2008 led to a panic in the stock market as it became clear that the expansion of the Pluto in Sagittarius era could not go on forever.  Pluto brings cultural transformation, and astrologers knew that when Pluto entered Capricorn the structures on which we base our lives (Capricorn), including government, financial and educational systems, and religious institutions would be forever transformed.

But even before this Saturn was paving the way to an increased sense of thriftiness when it entered Virgo back in the fall of 2007.  Suddenly there was the beginning of a shift towards savings and conservative attitudes towards money as the subprime mortgage fiasco began to build.

Evidently Celente couldn't get anyone in the US to listen, so he has taken his message to Russia Today:

"It hasn't ended. That was only the beginning. We are going to see a lot more. There is no recovery, it's a cover-up. They're covering it up with stimulus packages, with buy outs, with bailouts - it's not going to fix the problem."

I personally don't believe that the coverup is intentional - I think there is a desperate attempt to get back to where the financial system was a few years ago, using the same tools. But as financial analyst Max Wolff says, as quoted in this article:

"Let's put it this way: in order to have a 20 to 30 trillion dollar global blow-up, you don't have a few bad apples and you don't have a few simple mistakes - you have everybody basically bought in on a system that's fundamentally unsound."

In this video interview of Celente it is clear that he's not an alarmist.  As far as I can tell, he is merely trying to get people to wake up to the fact that the times have changed.  Astrologers are looking ahead to the upcoming square from Uranus (revolution) in Aries (war and aggression) with Pluto (transformation, death and rebirth) in Capricorn (social structures) and realizing that some kind of revolution is going to take place.  For some time I have felt that the period from 2010 to 2014 (especially 2012-2013 when this aspect is at its tightest) will bring revolutionary conflict between those who have (Capricorn) and those who don't (Uranus in Aries).  This won't be traditional war as we have known it, between countries.  This is a people's revolution that will spread all over the world.

Celente says that it doesn't have to be like this.  If the governments of the world recognize what's going on here and work to rebuild the financial system, this collapse can lead to a renaissance and transformation of our world.  Like me, he says "let's the banks that are too big to fail, fail."  Let's start again from scratch on a solid foundation.

Unfortunately, though, the powers that run the banking system have too much to gain by retaining the status quo.  If you're not convinced, take a look at the Vanity Fair article about how the bailout money (approved by previous president George Bush, remember) has been wasted.  And our Congress, supported by lobbyists and special interests on both sides of the aisle, just go along with it.

Celente is predicting the emergence of a new third party which he's calling "Progressive Libertarian" in 2012.  To me this follows the astrology nicely - the Uranian influence will increase the desire of Americans to be liberated (Uranus) from the clutches of the two party system (Capricorn).

Watch the video and see what you think.

Update:  here is an interesting interview with Celente.

The Mars square and recent cyber-attacks

by Lynn Hayes

cyber_security1.gif
The recent cyber-attacks on government computers in the United States and South Korea coincide with the square (90 degree aspect) from Mars (warfare, aggression) to the Triple Conjunction of Chiron, Jupiter and Neptune which is still tightly in alignment.  On a personal level that Triple Conjunction has served as a call from the soul to delve deeply into the unfolding healing process in order to more consciously awaken to every part of our being.  (See my website and this blog for plenty of articles on the Chiron/Neptune conjunction.

That square from Mars began moving into alignment to form a challenging square aspect to the Big Three just after the first of the month, and by July 4, the date the attacks began, Mars was within one degree from the aspect to Chiron and moving quickly towards an exact square to all three.  This has been a challenging few days for many people, particularly because of the addition of the lunar energy from the Full Moon.  There has been a great deal of aggression in the air with a tremendous bomb blast in Afghanistan, revolution in Honduras, riots in ethnic areas in China, a surge of violence in Iraq.

When Mars squares Chiron in our personal birthcharts there is often a stripping away of any veneer that protects us from our wounded emotional places (Chiron), and we often react with anger (Mars) as a result.  The same appears to be occurring on the global stage as well.  With Chiron and Neptune in Aquarius, the sign that rules technology, and Uranus, the planet ruler of technology, in the sign of Pisces which can obfuscate the truth and create confusion, it's no surprise that techniques of war are rapidly mutating into technological areas. Cyber attacks were originally the province of geeky young guys with dreams of bringing down the CIA or Wall Street from their bedrooms.  Now powerful nations are hiring these geeky young guys to administer cyber attacks on a much larger scale.

In last Sunday's radio show I discussed the Solar Return chart of the United States, whose birthday is widely celebrated as July 4, 1776.  The Solar Return marks the exact moment that the Sun returns to its place in the natal chart and is often used as a predictor of what is likely to manifest over the coming year.  Embedded in the US Solar Return is this Mars square which suggests that it will be difficult for the US to achieve peace over the next year.

The human brain and robotics: One step closer to Transhumanism

by Lynn Hayes

Honda.jpg
Researchers from Honda Motor Company have developed a new way to analyze human brain patterns and translate them into commands for their new generation of robots.  Several years ago I predicted that in the Age of Aquarius, at which we are on the brink, the distinction between the human brain and technology will be blurred, and computers will plug into our brains directly and pick up our thoughts.

Other research is beginning to show that the use of technology is changing the human brain as we adapt to the new demands of our changing world. As I wrote in this earlier article:

Since Neptune entered Aquarius in the late 1990s following the Uranus/Neptune conjunction of 1992-1995, the boundaries between humans and technology (Uranus/Aquarius) have blurred (Neptune).  When Uranus entered Pisces in 2003, instigating the mutual reception that has been in place since then with Uranus in the sign ruled by Neptune and Neptune in the sign ruled by Uranus, this blurring has increased exponentially.  So really, for the last 15 years we have been wandering into uncharted technological territory.  This period saw the explosion of the internet and the wiring of nearly every human being on the planet into the World Wide Web.

This hard-wiring of technology into our brains comes easier for those of us who are already rather electric in nature, with Uranus strong in our charts.  For others it's a more difficult process.

"Heart Pill to Banish Bad Memories"

happy pills.jpgChiron and Neptune have been within range of a conjunction since early 2008, but the conjunction won't be exact until next summer.  Still, the Wounded Healer and the Mystic Escapist are definitely dancing together, which may be how we ended up with this:

Scientists believe a common heart medicine may be able to banish fearful memories from the mind.

The Dutch investigators believe beta-blocker drugs could help people suffering from the emotional after-effects of traumatic experiences.Tieve the drug alters how memories are recalled after carrying out the study of 60 people, Nature Neuroscience reports.
But British experts questioned the ethics of tampering with the mind.

Paul Farmer, chief executive of mental health charity Mind, said he was concerned about the "fundamentally pharmacological" approach to people with problems such as phobias and anxiety. He said the procedure might also alter good memories and warned against an "accelerated Alzheimer's" approach....

Experiments on animals has shown beta blockers can interfere with how the brain makes sense of frightening events.

She told Nature Neuroscience: "Millions of people suffer from emotional disorders and the relapse of fear, even after successful treatment.
"Our findings may have important implications for the understanding and treatment of persistent and self-perpetuating memories in individuals suffering from emotional disorders."

But Professor Neil Burgess of the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience said the research merely demonstrates that the beta blockers reduce a person's startle response, breaking the association of the spider to these unconscious responses.

And Dr Daniel Sokol, lecturer in Medical Ethics at St George's, University of London, said memories were important, for people to learn from their mistakes for example [emphasis added].

"Removing bad memories is not like removing a wart or a mole. It will change our personal identity since who we are is linked to our memories. It may perhaps be beneficial in some cases, but before eradicating memories, we must reflect on the knock-on effects that this will have on individuals, society and our sense of humanity."

read more here...

I've written on this subject before, particularly here and here.  The fascinating thing about reading an astrological chart is that you can see the difficult traumas and abuse right there in the chart, meaning that individual was born with a predisposition to these events.  Rather than "bad karma," this is, I believe, a conscious choice on the part of the soul to work through difficult challenges and emerge a stronger and more incredible human.  I believe this because it has been my own personal experience.

Working through bad memories is what Chiron is all about, and Neptune has the tendency either to want to sublimate bad memories through escapism, or to embrace it as part of the spirituality of life.  If we take the first path, we will end up with an unresolved life and without the benefits of having worked through the pain of our past. Chiron has been in Aquarius for several years now, and we have seen an associated explosion of modalities that utilize energy (Aquarius) healing (Chiron).   With Chiron and Neptune both in Aquarius, sign of technological advancement as well as energy, it's not surprising that some are turning to pharmaceuticals for an easy way out.

Philip Sedgwick on 2012 and my thoughts on the Mayan Calendar and Age of Aquarius

Philip Sedgwick has a post on his new blog at Matrix that is chock full of interesting points to share.  Philip is an interesting astrologer - he was one of the first astrologers to work with the Galactic Center point which was so much in the news over the past few years as Pluto made a conjunction to it.  He is still exploring realms outside the boundaries of ordinary astrology, looking for ways to integrate the new Solar System into the astrological language.

Philip wrote an election blog for Huffington Post last year, and his commentary on that experience made me very glad I was picked up by Beliefnet and not, say, the New York Times which frankly was my fantasy.  It just shows that the Universe knows what's best.  At any rate, Philip's experience was not very enjoyable:

In honor of Mercury's impending retrograde, allow me to back up first. Last fall I had the pleasure of writing a blog regarding election polling and the upcoming U. S. Presidential Election for the Huffington Post. My posts appeared under a subcategory entitled Huffpollstrology. But when I started writing for HuffPo, the first post was placed in the column with the standard array of mainstream bloggers. Oh my! I discovered that despite the stats about the general public loving to read sun sign columns, approximately 80% of the comments received about my first post were hostile, hateful and ignorant of the topic they condemned, which in the realm of blogging has nothing to do with anything. The ridicule came in from the obvious religious quarters, those who despise superstition and well educated and/or intelligent folks who condemned the idiocy of those who put credence into astrology. The spiteful comments continued through the tenure of my columns leading up to the election, despite the impeccable accuracy of the content. "Jeez Louise," thought I, "Us astrologer folks better not say anythin' silly lest we fuel the fires of speculation about our sensibilities."

Interesting that mainstream readers are positive about sun sign astrology, which is more entertainment than astrology, and negative on real astrology, which they call "bunk."

Phliip goes on to talk about the upcoming 2012 panic.  Will the world really end?  Where does astrology fit in?  I'm getting a lot of emails about this myself, and I've noticed that many people are allowing the negativity and fear that is patterned into their own belief systems to erupt at this time with this new "legitimate" impending disaster.

Evidently the Hopi prophecy of the Blue Star Kachina being the harbinger of the emergence of the Fifth World (it is the Fourth World in the Mayan calendar that ends at 2012) is being tied to Comet Holmes which supposedly will top off a 7-year healing cycle.  Philip argues that a comet is not a star, and that Comet Holmes is actually yellow but just appeared blue due to viewing filters, and it comes around every 6.9 years anyway so is hardly the harbinger of anything.

Philip agrees with other writers that the Mayan calendar doesn't actually end, but that it rolls over and begins anew with a new Great Cycle of 5125 years.  It's an interesting synchronicity that five Great Cycles adds up to 26,000 years, the Grand Year of the Precession of the Equinoxes marking all of the great astrological ages.

Perhaps this synchronicity is a clue that December 21, 2012 is the gateway to the Age of Aquarius, since each Great Cycle would be equal to two astrological ages. The Age of Aquarius will certainly bring in tremendous changes to our culture - but then the development of human culture has been accelerating rapidly ever since Uranus was discovered in 1783.  Nothing is the same from one day to the next!

At any rate, the previous Mayan Cycle ended 5125 years before 2012, or 3113 bce.  This is an interesting millenium because it marks the first Egyptian dynasty and the beginning of the Hebrew calendar.

Pluto teaches us to look at death not as an ending but as a new beginning.  Each day is a new beginning, and our own lives are filled with Great Years - cycles that take us from one life experience to another.  These are the Great Years that are the most important, and every day we have an opportunity to begin anew.  2012 will take care of itself - for now, as the Zen teachers say, the laundry.
