Will Neptune in Pisces bring the legalization of marijuana?

by Lynn Hayes

It looks like we're heading in that direction:  "The Justice Department this week announced that it will no longer seek to prosecute people using, prescribing, or distributing pot for medical purposes, as long as they're in compliance with local law. However, regulations in some medical marijuana states remain murky."

Murky sounds like Neptune, whose penchant for transcendent experiences encompasses both the sublime and spiritual and the confused and deluded.  An argument can be made the marijuana straddes both of these realms and can be used for spiritual insight as well as the illusion of escapism.

Neptune enters Pisces, its own sign, in April 2011.  Since both Neptune and Pisces rule all kinds of drugs, both natural and pharmaceutical, it is likely that legalization and recategorization of drugs could take place during this time period, along with a growing acceptance of drugs as tools for religious experience.

Neptune's Return

Neptune returns this year and next to its discovery degree: 25 degrees Aquarius.  Here is a lovely video about the return of Neptune.  It's about ten minutes long, but worth the time.

When new planets are discovered they seem to release a new wave of consciousness into the world.  When Uranus was discovered in 1781 there was a wave of rebellion and revolution that spread around the world.  When Pluto was discovered in 1930 the atomic bomb was detonated and psychological concepts became widely accepted.  Chiron's discovery in 1977 was highlighted by the resurgence of holistic healing and homeopathic medicine, as well as the concept of metaphysical transformation.

Neptune is a mysterious enigma, drawing us ever deeper into the transcendence that takes us beyond the boundaries of ordinary reality.  At the moment Neptune and Chiron are of course traveling together, working together to deepen the experience of the soul.

Words of wisdom from Barbara Hand Clow

Barbara Hand Clow was one of the first astrologers to identify the wounding and healing process of Chiron that I work with in my own practice, and I owe her and her excellent work a great deal.  She is doing some groundbreaking work now that some may find a bit out there, but I suspect in a few years we'll see that she was right all along, just as she was 30 years ago.

Here's an excerpt from something she wrote about the Chiron/Neptune conjunction that we're in the middle of right now.  You can read more about it on her site.

We astrologers talk on and on about Neptune as a guide for connecting with spirit worlds. It has become a cliché, and most people just don't think about what that means. So, I will attempt to find other words to describe Neptune's influence. Most of the time, we are separated out from all-that-is, the timeless energy fields of our cosmic bodies. We are caught in time and place, and then once in awhile we experience a breakthrough into all-that-is-a peak experience. When this happens, the boundaries around our separated selves melt, and we experience "oneness" or enlightenment. Children frequently exist in oneness-especially infants-but then painful experiences cause them to close up and separate from divine consciousness. While we are alive, Chiron's transits-usually by conjunction, square, and opposition-erode the boundaries of the separated self by means of piercing stabs into deep inner wounds. When these wounds occurred in this life or past lives, we erected boundaries around the wounds, yet the very energy that could reconnect us with spirit-Neptune-is locked out. So, Chiron and Neptune working together can erode these boundaries that block cosmic fusion. In other words, accessing pain sometimes opens spiritual connection, and this is what we resist the most.
