Yesterday we talked about love, today let’s talk about money. Or at least let’s talk about how you’re going to make some money, because May is lining up to be a great month for investing in your career in order to get long-term results.

With the Sun in Taurus until May 20, you’d expect we’d be pretty easygoing about our work this month. However, the Taurus Sun is making a rich conjunction with giant Jupiter that’s going to make us more ambitious than we’ve been in months.

Gone is all that lazy Mars Retrograde nonsense we dealt with for the first few months of the year. Now we’re bound for career success because we’ll have that expansive Jupiter energy to inspire great ideas and lend good luck, while the practical Taurus Sun will help us get important work done.

They key to your career success this month is to just take it slow and steady because there will be a few bumps in the road. Watch out for the Full Moon in Scorpio on May 5, which may increase your financial worries. And don’t expect to see immediate results once Venus goes retrograde on May 15.

I love the way the Sun in Taurus tends to make life luscious. Our senses come alive, and everyone slows down and starts acting a bit more romantic — at least, we can all hope they do. I’m counting on my lovable-but-not-so-romantic boyfriend to get a clue this month and read my last blog about lilacs, hint hint.

Wait, where was I? Oh, right … so May starts out with the Sun in Taurus, which enhances romance by inspiring us all to make love by candlelight and then cuddle with a pizza.

This sweet scenario will be love game plan No. 1, but relationship issues may crop up around the Scorpio Full Moon on May 5, especially if you haven’t been getting your needs met. (Hello, lilacs! Hint hint.)

Love planet Venus also has other plans for us this month. Venus is in Gemini, which is less cuddly and more active, spontaneous and flirty — so we may prefer to put down the pizza and do something more adventurous together.

Also, loving Venus goes retrograde on May 15, which will slow down romance for six weeks. Old lovers may pop up — or at least thoughts of them will — and commitment may not come as fast as you’d like.

But that’s ok. You can still commit to the pizza, which will help you practice patience until the real deal comes through next month. And if you’re single, get out there and mingle — go on lots of dates because variety is the spice of life (and pizza, coincidentally enough).

Sure, Spring Equinox happened way back on March 20, but it never really feels like spring until May Day, at least in my humble opinion.

Growing up in Portland, Oregon, the lilacs always bloomed just in time for May Day, and I was drawn to them as a child for sure — but I had no idea that was because I’m a Gemini.

Yes, I love the sweet scent of lilacs on a late spring day, and the way they bloom in every shade of violet from the palest lavender to the plumiest purple — often all on the same branch. But what I didn’t know is that I’m draw to lilacs for astrological reasons, too.

See, we Gemini creatures need things that will calm our nerves. We’re always speeding out of control, our scatterbrained minds racing 24/7 and in need of something soothing to take the edge off.

Lavender and lilacs serve that purpose almost as well as yoga or meditation. Their anti-anxiety properties are just what soothes this Gemini soul. And they look purty on the coffee table, too.
