Exploring the Final Frontier

posted by debramoffitt

We’ve explored deep into the seas, far out into outer space and yet we often don’t know what’s inside our own hearts and minds. This is the final frontier of unchartered territory. There’s a wonderful Indian story that reveals the mystery of it.

In the beginning of time God tried to determine where to hide. He called together deities and devas to ask for help on deciding the right place. One said, “Hide at the bottom of the deepest ocean. No one will certainly find you there.” But God said, “No, they will build machines, dive deep and discover me.” Another said, “Go up to the highest mountain. No one will certainly find you there.” God said, “But they will climb to the highest peak and find me.” After more exchanges, God finally said, “I will hide in their own hearts. This is the last place they will think to look for me.”

Many people put long hours into training to hike up to Mount Everest or do a triathlon. We’re willing to work long hours for jobs. But rarely do we take the time to go inside and explore our inner terrain and become familiar with it.

Will you dare to make efforts to go inside and see what’s there? Working with dreams, meditation and journaling can be ways into self-discovery.
