Coincidentally, two separate Washington D.C. events have just rescinded invitations to conservative Christian clergy, in response to public outcry over each man’s previous statements. In brief:
–Cardinal Darío Castrillón Hoyos, who formerly headed the Vatican’s Congregation for the Clergy, will no longer be leading a Latin Mass this Saturday, in Pope Benedict’s honor, at the Basilica in Washington. He has been disinvited because of fresh controversy over his role in the sexual abuse scandal: a 2001 letter in which he praised a French bishop for refusing to report a priest who had raped children. The New York Times has more on this story.
–Evangelical leader Frankllin Graham will no longer be speaking at the Pentagon at a May 6 National Day of Prayer event. The invitation was rescinded in response to objections by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, which cited Graham’s past remarks about Islam as an evil religion. On Faith has more on this story.

Nicole – welcome to the beat – my family lives in Seattle! May I make a suggestion, tho? If you’re going to cite a DC story like the one about Cardinal Castrillon, please consider linking to a Washington newspaper, not one in New York. We scribes down here in the District have been breaking all the news on this story for the past three days now and an hour ago, I just posted who the cardinal’s replacement is: http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2010/apr/22/tulsa-bishop-replace-cardinal-mass/
if you’re interested.

That asshole in the White House is responsible for ensuring Franklin doesn’t pray….well; they can’t stop him from praying over millions in our country. Islam IS EVIL. There is NO room in our society for these dogs. I say take out all those that practice ISLAM with an SKS Rifle.

Darren, you are the ignorant fundamentalist asshole with your evil, bigoted comment. Who are you parroting, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck or one their ilk? Your offensive comment should be removed.

Let’s give credit where credit is due. It was Mikey Weinstien, founder and president of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, http://www.militaryreligiousfreedom.org, who helped get Graham disinvited and I’m glad the religious bigot was. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100421/ap_on_re_us/us_day_of_prayer_military

Your opinion, not shared by all…fortunately.

No! it is the religion of peace? Yeah right. More children are molested under the name of Islam than all the abuse cases elsewhere combined.
