As a new mom, I often improvise new verses to make those upteen renditions of “The Wheels on the Bus” more entertaining. Just when I thought I’d sung it all, a bunch of stories popped up this week about controversial bus ads — directing Muslims to leave Islam in New York, Detroit and Miami, calling Iran’s President Ahmadinejad a killer in Washington D.C., promoting either Christianity or atheism in London — and provided me with some new inspiration.

The ads on the bus say “There’s a God!” “No, There’s Not!” “Leave Islam!”

The ads on the bus hate Ahmadinejad, all through the town!

Now, I just have to figure out some child-appropriate gestures to accompany this new verse… I think I’ll go with an exaggerated helpless shrug and perhaps some comical head-shaking. The baby’s sure to love it! Then again, I could sing the phonebook to him and he’d happily bop along…
