Before I get to Fun Friday, here’s some breaking news: Brian David Mitchell, an excommunicated Mormon who had claimed to be a prophet, has been found guilty in the Elizabeth Smart kidnapping/rape trial. He could face life in prison when sentenced in late May.

The Salt Lake Tribune has done a great job covering the trial, including providing transcripts online, so check out the newspaper’s site for the whole story.
Presumably, Smart, 23, will now return to France, where she has been serving on a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints mission. (Not a bad place to get her life back, after this ordeal… Incidentally, former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney had also served his mission in France.) When her two-year mission is completed, she reportedly plans to complete her music studies at Brigham Young University.

Hope he gets life in prison, without any chance of parole. Am so glad the defense trying to claim he was mentally ill didn’t work. He knew exactly what he was doing. Personally, I can’t imagine how Elizabeth is dealing with what happened to her, but at least in public she seems to be coping. According to what I have read, she gave very detailed testimony of what happened to her. Perhaps in this case her faith is helping her live with that horrible experience.
