The Daily Show and The Colbert Report aren’t resting on their Emmy laurels — they each had entertaining faith-related bits this week, particularly on the end of ”Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict’s United Nations edition. (Unfortunately, Comedy Central videos tend to play automatically on this blog, so I’m not going to upload them directly.)

Mmmm. pause for thought. Jesus? Cagefighter? Really? In my opinion, to say that Jesus was a “cagefighter” would to me insinuate that he embodied a violent God, which, if my assupmption is correct, would make a mockery of his first coming which was the exact opposite, radically NON-VIOLENT. Cagefighting(or in Roman times, which were literally fight-to-the-death tournaments, which was one of five things that epitomised the Roman Empire, and which enraged Jesus, the Empire of which was chronically violent, as well as politically oppressive, and economically exploitative. He died not FOR our sins, as sadly, as passionate as I am as a Christian, interpreted by the church at large, but rather BECAUSE of the sin of human violence. He died at the hands of the Roman Empire because he confronted the systems of injustice inflicted on the Jews,so to get to the point, in a non-violent way I guess…….yeah, he was a “cagefighter”, if one still wants to put it that way. Interesting.
