I've shared my twelve depression busters before, but by clicking here you can view a gallery featuring my toolbox that directs me toward mental health, and serves as an emergency lifeline in case I get lost along the way. I consult these 12 techniques when I panic, when I get pulled into addictive behaviors, and as armor in my ongoing war against negative thoughts.

T,
I must say that your 12 depression busters are just what I needed to read on this Saturday a.m. We all know what we should do, but it never hurts to be reminded. Thank you so much for all your articles, they have gotten me through many hard times lately.

Early in my days in Alcoholics Anonymous I called my sponsor late at night, telling him that I was suffering from terrible depression and asked, "What should I do?". He said, "Wash the dishes." I was quiet for a second, waiting for more. He then said, "John, do you have a dog?" When I told him I did, he said, "After you wash the dishes, walk the dog." and he hung up.

I washed the dishes, walked the dog, and the depression lifted. Not completely, but enough. It's a solution I've found to work. If I can take some sort of positive action, it changes how I feel. It isn't a miracle and it doesn't cure depression totally, but it helps in the blackest moments.

Thanks for your toolkit. It's full of the most valuable advice out there.
