Joan Wester Anderson: Snow Angel
From her bestselling book, "Where Angels Walk." It was just past midnight on December 24, 1983. The Midwest was shivering through a record-breaking cold spell, complete with gale-force winds and frozen water pipes. And although our suburban Chicago household was...
I have goose bumps!!! A Midwesterner myself, I remember that unbelievable cold snap, and it was DEADLY. I don't remember numbers, but many people who became stranded DIDN'T survive For once, i obeyed the weather forecasters and local police, remaining inside with my then five-year-old who was begging to go outside into the drifting snow, and we had everything we needed (enough oil in the tank, warm covers on our beds, food in the kitchen, A working television&radio, unfrozen water pipes and EACH OTHER! I remember getting a pgone call from my mother in Indiana (further north than Indy), checking to nake sure I wasn't going to get on the road until the followind day to "surprise" them and for once in her life being thankful that we WEREN'T on our way to her! We did make the trek the following day, and it was sad to see all the buried automobiles along the country roads we had to travel. Manty people did die that Christmas Eve from being stranded in the horrible temperatures; those young men were truly blessed! What a wonderful example of anaswered prayer!
Praise the Lord!!! What an awesome God we serve!
I pray those young men truly understand "their touched by an angel" experience. Their survival in the midst of such a horribly disastrous set of circumstances, in which others did not even make it through, speaks to the raising of questions in the mind and heart. Questions such as "Why?" and "How?".
Of course, one is thankful, grateful, humbled, and recognizes the blessing of our prayers being answered. But beyond that, it was the divine purpose and will of God. He already knew what was going to take place from the incident to the prayers spoken on both sides. Therefore, the rescue was orchestrated well in advance of the occurence of the circumstance itself. Lord we thank-you!
Taking it even further, I'm sure "life", "the word", "rivers of living water" (Life and death is in the power of the tongue) spoken through the prayers and blessings of others as well as their own (for, to, and over themselves) set up and established their covering and protection. Mind you I'm just not talking about current or on the spot prayer. I'm referring to prayer spoken since birth, prior to, and well beyond that generationally. Bless them all that prayed for and speak blessings towards others!
I won't get too deep here. Just know that what you speak based on your thoughts, be they positive or negative, have the potential to come to pass. They will manifest in due time if we are not careful.(Guard your tongue and your thoughts) Help us Lord!
I pray these young men are looking to the Lord daily for answers and direction in their lives. They were saved not just out of an answer to prayers, but for some purpose predetermined by God. May they answer the call on their lives with "Yes, Lord!". Thank-you Lord!
I hope they are diligent seekers of Him who saves, delivers, and rescues us. He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. Seek ye "first"the Kingdom and His righteousness and all else will be added unto you.
Let everything that has breath praise ye the Lord! Praise the Lord!
i to remember that as i was only 6 years old at the time. We had no school for two day because it was to cold out side. when you have god and thing is possible. there are angles all around us all the time.
godbless you to all
I have seen angels since i was a small child and i have been given the gift to see the angels of others. It is so wonderful to be able to be open about angels today as years before when mentioned,it was either a good imagination or a person was looked upon as strange.Needless to say,i spent years not talking about what i saw or only speaking to someone for others not to hear. The openess we have today concerning angels is quite breath taking.I have been guides by them through my life,as they helped me out of difficult times and dangerous situations as the boys were in.
It is so awe-inspiring that to call upon them, they are present. What a wonderful loving and caring way to look after us on earth.Just the thought of their blessed beauty is so wonderous that we on earth are so privileged to be surrounded in their beauty. To be looked upon by a selfless angel and to be surrounded within their care and love is such a miracle in itself.I wish this miracle for all others, that the wings of their angels, lift them up and carry them when they are to weak to walk.
Happy New year and Blessings,
angelwings
I came onto this site not knowing what I was looking for and I found just what I needed. Angels have been a major part of my life for years and I'm thankful to meet others who believe as I do. Thank you for this great site.
What a beautiful story. I know there are angels around us, because I wouldn't be able to get through the trials and tribulations without them. Thank you for the opportunity to share.
