Even if one doesn't believe in a traditional "G-d," I believe 1,000% that true creativity depends on tapping into the spiritual.
However, organized religion pretty universally, in all sects, believes in thought-censoring (not just limiting one's actions, in the understandable and necessary name of bettering oneself and the world, but one's THOUGHTS as well).
Anyone else see the contradiction here?

Larry: I think you may just have hit upon the "true difference" between being spiritual and being religious! I also believe (big surprise...lol) that creativity flows directly through our spirituality, and traditional religions do tend to frown on creativity as "rocking the boat!"

The creative spark is (IMHO) the creator coming through us. It is but one piece of GOD that we all carry within us. Without inspiration ( which is god speaking to us )art, literature, any great works could not be done. Religion is man made. spirituality is connection to the holy. God is not found in a book, or a building. The greatest work of art is all around us(Nature). There is where you find god. :)

Here's the paradox of Newman's statement.
