Happy 2008 Y’All!

posted by Beyond Blue | 10:00am Tuesday January 1, 2008

My best wishes for a good start to 2008 for all my Beyond Blue readers! Resolution number two for me is to establish better boundaries between work and family, so I’m trying to practice that by not writing anything today, even though I do consider you all as family (that’s where it can get complicated).
I’ll talk about that more tomorrow. Til then!

Rewire Your Brain For Love: An Interview with Marsha Lucas, Ph.D.
In the spirit of Valentine's Day, I thought I’d feature an interview with a very cool licensed psychologist and neuropsychologist that I was lucky enough to meet in person at a book signing back in September. Marsha Lucas, Ph.D., has been practicing psychotherapy and studying the brain-behavior re

Love Deeply ...
Valentine's Day is a good time to remember all the ways we can be loving, not just to the guy/gal sitting across from you at the kitchen table, but also your boss, your mother, your boss's mother, and her mother. One of my very favorite reflections from Henri Nouwen is "Love Deeply," found in hi

Therapy Thursday: Sweat
I have decided to dedicate a post on Thursday to therapy, and offer you the many tips I have learned on the couch. They will be a good reminder for me, as well, of something small I can concentrate on. Many of them are published in my book, "The Pocket Therapist: An Emotional Survival Kit." Work

Scrupulosity: What It Is and Why It's Dangerous
If you sprinkle a hefty dose of Catholic (or Jewish) guilt unto a fragile biochemistry headed toward a severe mood disorder, you usually arrive at some kind of a religious nut. Not that there’s anything wrong with that! For I am one. I have said many places that growing up Catholic, for me, was

The Treasures of Darkness
We often equate darkness with sorrow, misery, get-me-the-hell-out-of-here reaction. At least I do. That’s why I keep a mammoth Happy Lite on my smallish cubicle at work. But darkness can also be a treasure. Say what? J. R. Miller writes this in “From Streams in the Desert” by L. B. C

Happy 2008! I just wrote in my journal entry at BeliefNet about the new day and new year. I’m not sure about boundaries in my life – I’ll have to give that some thought. The new book I’m writing may be fairly consuming – but I’ve become a volunteer at a local outreach that provides food and clothing to folks who need it – and that is in addition to the prison ministry. I’m hoping to balance the different opportunities for service – so I guess that might mean I need to establish some boundaries also. I promise to think about it!
Best and warmest regards and prayers for God’s blessings…
Frank,

Happy New Year back at Ya, Therese!! Now, hopefully the following wasn’t anyone’s day today!! – My husband & I, true to form, were half awake to see the ball drop – just once I’d like to see what would happen if that stupid thing didn’t make it to the bottom – would we be in limbo between years until the repair crew fixed it?!?!
Ten Signs You Had Too Much Fun Last Night…
1. You’d rather have a pencil driven through your retina than be exposed to sunlight.
2. Trying to gain control of the situation, you continue to tell your room to “Stay still.
3. Looking at yourself in the mirror induces the same reaction as chugging a glass of fresh paint.
4. You’re convinced that the chirping birds are evil.
5. You set aside an entire morning to spend some quality time with your toilet.
6. You replaced the traditional praying on your knees with the more feasible praying in a fetal position.
7. The bathroom reminds you of a carnival barker shouting, “Step right up and give it whirl!”
8. All day long your motto is, “Never again.”
9. You could purchase a new bike just by recycling the bottles around your bed.
10. Your natural response to “Good morning,” is “Shut up!”

I have no boundries, and don’t intend to have any (that’s part of my total surrender to God, boundries are all His problem !) I invite everybody to kick my ass, but most people that have seriously tangled with me, just think I’m crazy and shy aWay from me (go figure !) In my youth I hated people, but now I Love everybody, no matter what, especially all the wako people of the world (I guess that explains why I’m at B.B. !)

Establishing boundries is key; something I’ve taken nearly sixty years to comprehend. Without them we(At least ME) end up wasting what little energuy we (I) have trying to satisfy the outrageous expectations of everyone else without even allowing myself to HAVE any!

Well you know I’m a teetotaler too, Mr. Larry!
and Ms. Margaret – you are right – boundaries are a wonderful thing and necessary. I hear you on learning on the back 9 about this stuff. I wish I knew this when I was a kid, but the great thing is I got to teach my kids these lessons that I missed out on.
