Patton’s Group Picks at Beliefnet Community

posted by Beyond Blue | 9:30am Friday January 11, 2008

Since Patton is involved in the Community Beliefnet, the social networking side of Beliefnet, I asked him to recommend some groups to Beyond Blue readers, in addition, of course, to Group Beyond Blue, which is jamming, by the way, with tons of discussion threads. Very exciting!

Here are some other groups to consider:

Art, Healing, and Transformation
This group is about using art as a means to healing and transformation on both the individual and global levels. Please share your art and your stories, thoughts, and feelings. How has art — in the broadest sense of the term — influenced your life, either as creator or consumer?

Translating God’s Word
This group will be a discussion of the Bible translation process, types of translation, the interlinear, textual criticism, hermeneutics, inductive Bible study, and any field or area that affects the Bible translation process. Do not let the title frighten you; it does deal primarily with the importance of God’s Word by way of the value of a Good translation. But we will deal with such important questions as these: What do you look for in a Bible translation? Should it be literal? Are there bad translations? Can we trust the Bibles that we have? How do we know that what we have is, in fact God’s Word? Who has really been the Bible’s false friend? How did God’s Word come down to us? I hope this to be an academic group containing students of the Bible at all levels of understanding and appreciation.

God-o-Meter Politics
Did Mitt Romney’s “Mormon speech” change minds? Is Barack Obama adopting George W. Bush’s church-based organizing tactics? Will evangelicals sit the election out if Rudy Giuliani is the Republican nominee–or does Hillary Clinton’s standing ovation at Saddleback mean she’ll win more evangelicals than James Dobson would care to admit? God-o-Meter Politics is the place for discussion and debate about the role religion is playing in the 2008 presidential race, moderated by Beliefnet Politics Editor and God-o-Meter blogger Dan Gilgoff.

Living with Chronic Back Pain
This is where we can come together & help each other, learn from each other & discover what may work for relieving our pain. If nothing else we will complain about it & be there with suggestions & support.
Living with Chronic Back pain is a group where those of us that suffer back pain everyday can come together to help each other cope with this & a place where we may learn new ways of dealing with it.
Patton told me that one of the discussion threads is about depression.

The Soulmate Project
Finding true, soulful love is not a destination, its a journey. A real and lasting relationship with a spiritual soul mate requires inner work and outer preparation. It calls us to GET READY for love. Let’s explore a multi-faceted spiritual approach for inviting true love into your life! We will: * Share our love stories * Find out how to release energetic blocks * Focus on self love and embracing ourselves * Learn ceremonial tips for calling to Love * Pray for love together

How Do You Heal Loneliness?
If I had to name the most common complaint I hear among depressives, it is that they are lonely. Just five minutes ago, I replied on a thread within Group Beyond Blue to a woman who started a thread called "Who Do I Turn To?" She wants so badly to connect with another woman--as the anchors in her li

Rewire Your Brain For Love: An Interview with Marsha Lucas, Ph.D.
In the spirit of Valentine's Day, I thought I’d feature an interview with a very cool licensed psychologist and neuropsychologist that I was lucky enough to meet in person at a book signing back in September. Marsha Lucas, Ph.D., has been practicing psychotherapy and studying the brain-behavior re

Love Deeply ...
Valentine's Day is a good time to remember all the ways we can be loving, not just to the guy/gal sitting across from you at the kitchen table, but also your boss, your mother, your boss's mother, and her mother. One of my very favorite reflections from Henri Nouwen is "Love Deeply," found in hi

Therapy Thursday: Sweat
I have decided to dedicate a post on Thursday to therapy, and offer you the many tips I have learned on the couch. They will be a good reminder for me, as well, of something small I can concentrate on. Many of them are published in my book, "The Pocket Therapist: An Emotional Survival Kit." Work

Scrupulosity: What It Is and Why It's Dangerous
If you sprinkle a hefty dose of Catholic (or Jewish) guilt unto a fragile biochemistry headed toward a severe mood disorder, you usually arrive at some kind of a religious nut. Not that there’s anything wrong with that! For I am one. I have said many places that growing up Catholic, for me, was

I’m not ordinarily a “New Age” believer, as Rev. Laurie Sue Brockway is, but I have found “The Soulmate Project” very helpful in clearing my own mind as to past relationships and what I am looking for in future ones.
Overcoming skepticism — that seems to be one of Patton’s themes :-)

Now that I’ve heaved a sigh of relief, I am snickering!
The title that popped up on my Google reader really had me going: “Patton’s Group Picks at Beliefnet Community.”
“Who is this Patton fellow and what’s this group of his?” I grumbled to myself, “How could they possibly find fault with the Beliefnet community?”
Aha. Ain’t the depressive mindset a wonderful thing?
Might I propose a gentle rewrite?
Patton Dodd’s Picks for Best Groups at Beliefnet Community?
Which Beliefnet Community Groups does Patton Dodd Recommend?
Patton Dodd’s Favorite Groups at Beliefnet Community?
After all, if Mr. Patton were listing favorite facial parts, would it read: “Patton’s group picks nose”?
Love and hugs,
Lisa

** Thanks so much Lisa, I couldn’t have said that any better myself… I loved it ! But I feel it wouldn’t hurt to clic over to those sites to check them out (tell the truth! if our humble mod leader Therese, suggested them, we would have been a lot more accepting !) We all were led here by the Holy Spirit, but that doesn’t mean that enlightenment can’t be recommended by ALL us poor, pitiful, sojourners along this Road Called Love!

Yes, the headline is a Jay Leno-type whopper.
On the other hand, when you guys and gals have the experience of working at the copy desk at your local newspaper (or Web site) on deadline, then you can complain :-)

Larry … i’ve been a broadcast journalist for almost 30 years. and since i write for the ear (on deadline) and occasionally have to “rewrite” copy as i read it on the air … year … i guess i get to — well, not complain (since i didn’t have to actually broadcast it) — but remark on it, anyway. from a position of someone who’s been there and written her share of whoppers!

I’m obviously not a journalist or a broadcaster as I had to “think outside the box” to get what you were all twisted about with the title of this post.
Unfortunately or fortunately for Therese, I interpreted her title as intended on the first read. I only started getting confused when I read the comments!! LOL !!
