Stephen Colbert: The Pope Is Coming to Town!

posted by Beyond Blue | 9:19am Friday April 11, 2008

My friend Jim Martin has a great video clip from Stephen Colbert’s segment about the pope. In true Colbert, it’s priceless. Click here to see it. Jim Martin writes:

There are few people who are more excited about the pope’s visit than Stephen Colbert, who actually has tickets to the Mass at Yankee Stadium, as he explains in this clip. Mr. Colbert, as many of our viewers/readers know, is in fact Catholic.

Scrupulosity: What It Is and Why It's Dangerous
If you sprinkle a hefty dose of Catholic (or Jewish) guilt unto a fragile biochemistry headed toward a severe mood disorder, you usually arrive at some kind of a religious nut. Not that there’s anything wrong with that! For I am one. I have said many places that growing up Catholic, for me, was

The Treasures of Darkness
We often equate darkness with sorrow, misery, get-me-the-hell-out-of-here reaction. At least I do. That’s why I keep a mammoth Happy Lite on my smallish cubicle at work. But darkness can also be a treasure. Say what? J. R. Miller writes this in “From Streams in the Desert” by L. B. C

On Groundhog Day: 12 Winter Depression Busters
Last year on this day, I got fired. That was a real pleasant Groundhog Day. I was so confused by what had happened that I drove around the D.C. beltway twice. I missed my exit, and realized that halfway around the second time. I just thought on this day, you could probably use some winter depres

6 Ways to Stay Resilient in Stress
Writer Jennifer Yane once said, “I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days will attack me at once.” Admittedly, I spend too many days myself running from “the attacks of the calendars.” I am thinking that if I didn’t have so much stress in my life, I MIGHT be able to grab

Therese:
I think people offended at your “Why Catholicism is the Best Religion” post would be offended at Colbert, and people who thought Colbert was funny would also enjoy your post.
Interesting that the laughter in the clip was a touch uneasy and not as raucous as usual.

I can take or leave Stephen Colbert. When he’s funny, he’s a riot, but then he makes baby prostitute jokes and I scratch my head. That’s the thing about comedians. Not everything they say is funny, but they throw so many jokes out there that some are bound to hit the mark. I have to admit I liked the nacho sauce joke, though. :)
BTW, I liked your “Why Catholicism…” blog post. If you, a Catholic, can’t be excited about your own religion, then who can!?! LOL

I was in the Papal Choir on John Paul’s visit to Los Angeles, and I must say that the experience of so many fervent people (we were in Dodger Stadium!) was a very special one. If only that energy could be harnessed for the greater good on a more regular basis.

So who cares if some “people” are offended by Therese’s articles and videos about the Pope.
I am not even Catholic and thought both were so funny to the point I send them to my entire e-mail listing.
I want a pair of those red running shoes though..any one know where I can find those??? LOL
