Therapy Notes: Give Amy a Bottle
From my therapy notebook: I now know who to blame for my feelings of panic and anxiety … Amy. It’s all her fault. That’s what I call my amygdala, the delinquent cluster of neurons in the limbic system considered by most neurobiologists as the fear center of the human body, like the

8 Ways to Overcome Envy
I know that the fastest way to despair is by comparing one's insides with another's outsides, and that Max Ehrmann, the author of the classic poem "Desiderata," was absolutely correct when he said that if you compare yourself with others you become either vain or bitter, or, as Helen Keller put it:

Therapy Notes: Forecast Some Backsliding
From my therapy notebook: The path to mental health is an uneven process: for every two steps forward, you move one and a half back. But if you know this before you start walking, you’ll be less tempted to throw up your arms at the first relapse and say “to hell with it!” My psychiatrist

Some Quotes on Solitude and Self-Nurturing I Like
At the still point of the turning world. Neither flesh or fleshless; Neither from nor towards; at the still point, there the dance is, But neither arrest nor movement. And do not call it fixity, Where past and future are gathered. Neither movement from nor towards, Neither ascent nor decline. Ex

That’s ok Lisa – My “kids” are 20 and 22, and one is already away for the New Year’s Celebration, and the other one is leaving at 4:30.
They’ll both be gone, but this is still my husband and I regardless!! Maybe we’ll set up a recording device and have a contest to see who snores the loudest of the two of us.
We were invited to parties, but I’m too sick to attend this year. Plus, I’m kind of tired of the whole thing with the ball dropping, etc. – just to go whooppee! Plus – isn’t it already 2008 already, somewhere in the world?
So, in place of the kids now, it’s the cat and the dog – and I’m sure they’ll party more than we will tonight!!
Happy New Year to All -
Nancy L.

my 8yo son is sitting here writing our “New Year’s Eve Agenda”- he’s cracking me up. My turning 6yo on the 2nd dd also wants to try to stay up- I give her till ten or so before she either brings herself to her bed or just falls asleep on the floor. My son is a night owl like mama, so I think he will see the ball drop- last item on his agenda.

Sorry to go off topic, but I have a question at least for Therese if not other BPs, that could either be discussed in this thread or a new thread that Therese might start up if she was interested. I bumped into a web site by an author of books on the topic of “Highly Sensitive People” – HSP’s – as I was googling wikipedia on “shyness” as I remembered being shy in my adolescence and I wanted to see what causes it.
http://www.hsperson.com/
I didn’t take the test to see if I am an HSP because I’m 95% sure I am without having to take the test. They say 20% of people are HSP (as well as animals interestingly enough.) And I was wondering if this percentage might be higher among BPs?

Next to valentine’s day,IMHO, New years eveis he most trumped-up holiday we celebrate! Who decided it needed to warrant a noisy party with someone to kiss at the stroke of midnight? All that does is further alienate those who are trying to live happily single (or at least contentedly so) in a society that worships couples! give me family, a trivia game and a scrabble board, sone caffiene-free diet Pepsi, a munchie or too—no more refined sugar,PLEASE–cHRISTMAS WAS BAD ENOUGH!!

Looks like my posting challenges are sticking around for the New Year…. profoundapologies…anyway, give me the above, my hournal and maybe a midnight call from myson,a good book to take to bed, and i’m a happy camper. No popping corks, noise-makers or silly hats necessary. {erhaps at midnight when othersare kissing, I’ll go into the bathroom and do my “I love you, nargaret” ritual.Of course, if I’m overheard, it will only further cement the “she’s lost-it” mentality.

** Would that be like Donald Trumped up !
Who decided it needed to warrant a noisy party with someone to kiss at the stroke of midnight?
Midnight is a very interesting time. It is the end of the day, but also the beginning of a brand new day .. and the Son (or is that Sun) shall rise again! The noisy party is like “I leaving with a BANG!” And a Kiss, well that in our society represents a goodby, but also a kiss hello to meeting and greeting of old and new friends.
All that does is further alienate those who are trying to live happily single (or at least contentedly so) in a society that worships couples!
** Nah! Society doesn’t worship couples (notice the divorce rate) Society is overburdend (and couples) by the tremendous effort it takes to live happily together and ever after (is that really possible?)
give me family, a trivia game and a scrabble board, sone caffiene-free diet Pepsi, a munchie or too—no more refined sugar,PLEASE–cHRISTMAS WAS BAD ENOUGH!!
** Ahh, Margaret, it’s all about perspective (and perspective is everything !) Perspective is a view from where you stand, the question is where do you stand? A clear view also requires a lot of focus, focus, focus! A New Year? Just what we ALL need, and for those whose eyesight is a bit blurred from pain and suffering, we need to stand together, hold hands, and walk out of the darkness and into the Light together … Amen !… Happy New Year ~ 2 ALL !

Wisdum: I understand the “magic” of midnight–it goes back to our more primitive beginnings and pagan roots (What time do you think the druids danced around the oak tree in the forest?)
Dovorce figures notwithstanding, I STILL maintain that we, as a culture, idolize the “couple concept. How any adds do you see (print OR media) that glorify a sungle existence.? Just look at our (perhaps mispent) youths when attracting the “right’ boy/gitlfriend(or ant one at all for some of us.) way out weighs the grades we manage to accumulate during high school (even collrge for many)How much anticipation over high school reunions actually centers on seeing “the old gang” again when compared to finding out how that “first flame (or the most popular jock or cheerleader) have fared in the “real world? the indications are lrgion, including the remarriage figured for divorced folks who still want to make that match which might “complete” them even after failing at it on the first(second/third?) try!

** I don’t know what time they danced, but I heard they were all dancing naked…is that true? … If so, can you tell me where they are located today ?
Dovorce figures notwithstanding, I STILL maintain that we, as a culture, idolize the “couple concept.
** I guess as an idolistic concept (or is that procept ?) it could be something to shoot for … better that sitting around playing with yourself (if you catch my drift !)
How any adds do you see (print OR media) that glorify a sungle existence.?
** Uhhhh … just offhand Paris Hilton, Britany Spears, Lindsey Lohan and all the other “Bad Girls” out there (my daughters included … and my son!)… (I’m not to familiar with the male types, of course … or care, if you catch my drift !)
Just look at our (perhaps mispent) youths when attracting the “right’ boy/gitlfriend(or ant one at all for some of us.)
** Don’t know where you been, but I think you missed “Bad Boy Syndrome” folloed very closely by “Bad Girl Syndrome” and right after taht “Bad Mommy/ Daddy Syndrome” (I guess you don’t watch the news, or read the papers either … too much time on BB?)
way out weighs the grades we manage to accumulate during high school (even collrge for many)How much anticipation over high school reunions actually centers on seeing “the old gang” again when compared to finding out how that “first flame (or the most popular jock or cheerleader) have fared in the “real world?
** I actually haven’t been to any of them (and I’m 66) I do miss my childhood friends, whom I haven’t seen in many years (not a one !)Maybe it’s because I’ve never grown up (Peter Pan Syndrome … methinks, we have to dam many sindromes … or is the syndromes?)
the indications are lrgion, including the remarriage figured for divorced folks who still want to make that match which might “complete” them even after failing at it on the first(second/third?) try!
Yeah ! My wife asked my that age old question, that all you women ask “If I died first, would you get married again ?” … I responded “How stupid do you think I am … I never make the same mistake twice !” … “Marriage is a Lifetime, of volunteer slavery !” (let me throw in, by both parties !)
