The Bipolar Singing Blogger Smackdown

posted by Beyond Blue | 3:53pm Saturday January 17, 2009

Golly, I never thought my singing video, “The 12 (Bipolar) Days of Christmas” would have competition. But apparently, it’s the “American Idol” of bipolar bloggers! I thought this video was a pretty funny response to mine. But just you wait, I’ll be back with an even better one!

Rewire Your Brain For Love: An Interview with Marsha Lucas, Ph.D.
In the spirit of Valentine's Day, I thought I’d feature an interview with a very cool licensed psychologist and neuropsychologist that I was lucky enough to meet in person at a book signing back in September. Marsha Lucas, Ph.D., has been practicing psychotherapy and studying the brain-behavior re

Love Deeply ...
Valentine's Day is a good time to remember all the ways we can be loving, not just to the guy/gal sitting across from you at the kitchen table, but also your boss, your mother, your boss's mother, and her mother. One of my very favorite reflections from Henri Nouwen is "Love Deeply," found in hi

Therapy Thursday: Sweat
I have decided to dedicate a post on Thursday to therapy, and offer you the many tips I have learned on the couch. They will be a good reminder for me, as well, of something small I can concentrate on. Many of them are published in my book, "The Pocket Therapist: An Emotional Survival Kit." Work

Scrupulosity: What It Is and Why It's Dangerous
If you sprinkle a hefty dose of Catholic (or Jewish) guilt unto a fragile biochemistry headed toward a severe mood disorder, you usually arrive at some kind of a religious nut. Not that there’s anything wrong with that! For I am one. I have said many places that growing up Catholic, for me, was

The Treasures of Darkness
We often equate darkness with sorrow, misery, get-me-the-hell-out-of-here reaction. At least I do. That’s why I keep a mammoth Happy Lite on my smallish cubicle at work. But darkness can also be a treasure. Say what? J. R. Miller writes this in “From Streams in the Desert” by L. B. C

This is not in response to this particular post but I am screaming HELP! I had a friend take me to see a new Dr. today. I prayed before the appt for Spirit to help me to TRUST in this Dr’s assessment and suggestions.
I have been in a HORRIBLE place recently emotionally/mentally. Even while taking my Cymbalta for depression I have felt suicidal, very sad and have had alot of anger & anxiety.
The Dr. gave me 2 new Rx’s today, one for Lithium at bedtime..it is 450 mgs along with Elavil for the anxiety and to calm me and help me to sleep. Trying new med’s is always scary for me…..which I know you understand Therese.
I am home alone. I had to put my adult/26 yr old son out of the house who has been drinking & drugging and causing me alot of the stress I have been under. Anyway, as I get ready to go to bed tonite I ask that everyone here at Beyond Blue PLEASE send healing energies my way, keep me in your thoughts and prayers and I would welcome any emails anyone wants to send to me at maryannethompson13@yahoo.com
Thanks, Mary Anne

Just saw your alleged competition, T. Maybe it’s a matter of personal taste, but I like your simple vid better. At least I could understand the lyrics and relate to them!
Shalom.

T.
Have to agree with Margie about the “alledged” competition, and for the same reasons. The tree thing was trying to put forth a message and I have no idea what it was. BTW, how does one go about getting a room in a psych ward? I have been feeling like I might be better off there.

Well, I do get John’s metaphor — people who are manic attempt things that are incredibly ambitious yet well nigh impossible and illogical — but so do lots of “visionaries” who don’t have bipolar disorder.
I’m sure you will win the next smackdown as you won this one :-)

Hey, Gang. You are a very loyal posse. I totally appreciate the way you are making her feel good, especially after being so totally smoked by me. Don’t worry, she says she’ll be back and I’m willing to give her a second chance. See you at the next smackdown, and – oh – don’t stand under any trees I built.
