Every week during Lent, I will focus on one of Abby’s Seixas’s six steps (in her book “Finding the Deep River Within”). As part of “Mindful Monday,” I will expand on one at the beginning of each week so that you can follow my program of simplification, if you’d like. Here they are.

Thank you for the writings…I will look for the book. In my life, presently, I feel that my family members do not totally respect me even though, yes, i give respect and consistantly do many favors. I know that my adult children want to run the “show”…yet i see so many contradictions with their chlid rearing (5 grand-children). It often upsets me and then not being heard i become depresed. Should i just move on with my own life? i am 62 and don’t really want to do much anymore.

I teach women prisoners at a State Jail in Texas. Everyday I am inspired and motivated by what I read on Beliefnet. I have tried to make a copy to share with my students, however, I am unable to copy from this wonderful website. Is there something I am doing wrong.
I believe that I am called to share any word of encouragement.
God Bless You,
Betty Griffin

Hi Susan! I know you didn’t want my advice but I read your comment and was immediately sad, I am sorry that you feel like you don’t get listened to. It is an aweful feeling to feel your voice doesn’t matter. Please don’t give up- you are valuable and beautiful. If you feel like they don’t listen to you then you owe it to yourself to fix the problem. What I usually do is the creative solution time- I just brainstorm for as long as it takes to find an active problem solution. It might be family counceling, there may be other solutions but the point is- Don’t give up and don’t give in. What will result from this is you feeling like you matter, and after all, that is worth all the effort right there. You can do this! Katie.

Hi Betty,
I think sharing content from this website is a great idea. I sometimes share articles and what not to my friends and family. I’m not sure why exactly you’re not able to copy from this website. Maybe try only selecting the text, not images or advertisements. Use the tool bar, not the keyboard to copy. Edit –> Copy. Then open some kind of word pad and use your tool bar again. Edit –> Paste. Then proceed to print. I know sometimes when I try and select the whole page to copy, it doesn’t paste correctly. I hope this helps!
-May all be well!

On a spiritual retreat to Italy in the fall, these are the words God gave me to work with Him on: “Simplify” and “Take Time”. I’m still a work in progress, but I look with eagerness on tomorrow’s Step! Ciao
