I started a discussion thread on Group Beyond Blue called “Do You Believe In Guardian Angels?” To open the discussion, I write this:

On my blog I discuss a book called “Angels In My Hair” by an Irish mystic who claims that she talks to angels. She writes:

As you sit there reading this–whether you believe it or not–there is an angel by your side: it is your guardian angel, and it never leaves you. Each one of us have been given a gift, a shield made from the energy of light. It is a part of the guardian angel’s task to put this shield around us. To God and the angels we are all equal; we all deserve to be protected, to be cared for, and to be loved, regardless of what others might think of us–good or bad. When I look at someone I can physically see this shield around them; it’s as if it’s alive.

Your guardian angel is the gatekeeper of your body and your soul. He was assigned to you before you were even conceived; as you grew in your mother’s womb he was there with you at every moment, protecting you. Once you were born and as you grow up your guardian angel never leaves your side for an instant; he is with you when you sleep, when you are in the bathroom, all the time–you are never alone. Then, when you die, your guardian angel is there beside you, helping you to pass over. …Human beings are much more than flesh and blood, and as you become aware of this and start to believe that you have a soul, your connection with the angels will blossom.

I was somewhat skeptical at first, but the author seems so authentic and humble. It’s got me thinking a lot about angels, especially guardian angels, and whether or not we all have one.

What do you think?

Love Deeply ...
Valentine's Day is a good time to remember all the ways we can be loving, not just to the guy/gal sitting across from you at the kitchen table, but also your boss, your mother, your boss's mother, and her mother. One of my very favorite reflections from Henri Nouwen is "Love Deeply," found in hi

Therapy Thursday: Sweat
I have decided to dedicate a post on Thursday to therapy, and offer you the many tips I have learned on the couch. They will be a good reminder for me, as well, of something small I can concentrate on. Many of them are published in my book, "The Pocket Therapist: An Emotional Survival Kit." Work

Scrupulosity: What It Is and Why It's Dangerous
If you sprinkle a hefty dose of Catholic (or Jewish) guilt unto a fragile biochemistry headed toward a severe mood disorder, you usually arrive at some kind of a religious nut. Not that there’s anything wrong with that! For I am one. I have said many places that growing up Catholic, for me, was

The Treasures of Darkness
We often equate darkness with sorrow, misery, get-me-the-hell-out-of-here reaction. At least I do. That’s why I keep a mammoth Happy Lite on my smallish cubicle at work. But darkness can also be a treasure. Say what? J. R. Miller writes this in “From Streams in the Desert” by L. B. C

On Groundhog Day: 12 Winter Depression Busters
Last year on this day, I got fired. That was a real pleasant Groundhog Day. I was so confused by what had happened that I drove around the D.C. beltway twice. I missed my exit, and realized that halfway around the second time. I just thought on this day, you could probably use some winter depres

Br. Gabriel

I have always believed in Angels. I’m a Catholic Bendictine Monk and when I made profession, I took the name Gabriel. The Archangel Gabriel has always been my favorite Angel. So it was an honor to take his name. So here at the monastery, I’m known as Br. Gabriel. May you all feel his presence as you walk today. Peace and God bless. Br. Gabriel OSB.

I do believe in guardian angels and I have read Lorna’s book. It moved me to tears many times; I don’t know why but I was very surprised!
You should check out the videos on her website. If you aren’t convinced by her book, you’d be convinced when you hear her speak.

In the very beginning the Bible tells us Adam and Eve had a “Covering Cherub” who eventually turned himself into Satan the Devil.
My logic has to click in here. If we have angels today that look over us and protect us, then why don’t they protect everyone?
Such as a small child that runs out into the street? Or one that is kidnapped by a Pedophile who rapes them over worse. Or a woman raped in her own bed?
Many other examples could I tell…………but pray tell, if angels protect just some……how logical is that? Why are people then not protected in car accidents, or from disease? The Bible states, “Time and unforseen occurence befall all mankind.”
There is no doubt in my mind that according to the Bible there are definitely angels all around, infact, it goes ahead to say they are messengers for God. But not at this time are they here to protect us. If that was true………then they would be protecting everyone. Is this logical or not?
