The following prayers are from “A Prayer Book for Soldiers and Sailors.”

FOR GOD’S HELP

Grant us, O Lord, in all our duties thy help, in all our perplexities thy counsel, in all our dangers thy protection, and in all our sorrows thy peace; for the sake of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen.
Grant to us, Lord, we beseech thee, the spirit to think and do always such things as are right; that we, who cannot do any thing that is good without thee, may by thee be enabled to live according to thy will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

FOR GOD’S PROTECTION

O Almighty and most merciful God, of thy bountiful goodness keep us, we beseech thee, from all things that may hurt us; that we, being ready both in body and soul, may cheerfully accomplish those things which thou commandest; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
We beseech thee, Almighty God, look upon the hearty desires of thy humble servants, and stretch forth the right hand of thy Majesty, to be our defence against all our enemies; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

FOR AID AGAINST PERILS

Lighten our darkness, we beseech thee, O Lord; and by thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of thy only Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.

8 Ways to Overcome Envy
I know that the fastest way to despair is by comparing one's insides with another's outsides, and that Max Ehrmann, the author of the classic poem "Desiderata," was absolutely correct when he said that if you compare yourself with others you become either vain or bitter, or, as Helen Keller put it:

Hi Therese,
Just read your article in “St Anthony’s Messenger.” I am thrilled that you are there to help those with depression. I’ve been there a few times, although not probably clinically, but definitely depressed. I like the idea that it isn’t being down that is important but what you do to get yourself out of it. I wish adolescents and their parents were more aware of these things to prevent some of the crazy, impulsive things they do when they feel out of control. I have grandchildren now- two are adolescents- and I worry so much about how they will learn to cope in this mercenary world. TV and movies make others lives look glamorous and easy because they don’t show the monotony that accompanies part of each day. There is very little in the media about normal prayer and the help that is available through living close to God and the saints we are privileged to learn about. Help is close by, but the media would like us to think it is found in shopping, movies, TV, etc.
God bless you and keep up the good work. I’ll be following your blog now and then.
