CLAPTON AND WINWOOD ON A ROLL

Monday June 1, 2009

I am an old rock n' roller, turned holy roller as well, and two of my favorite artists I have enjoyed over the years are Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood. Here you will find a fine HQ sample of their recent touring together, and they are going out again on the road this month, and I will be tracking them down on June 15th with my buddy and road warrior Jeff James of Ichthus fame in Columbus Ohio. Here is a previewing of coming attractions.

Great song by a couple of classic rock artists. Clapton's playing just gets sweeter with age.

What is this song about? An aching for 'home?' Feeling lost in this world?

Any input?

As a young hippy 'Jesus freak' living in Europe in the 70's, a friend and I got the chance to spend about 3 hours with Steve Winwood (during a brief Traffic reunion). We talked about Clapton's song, "In the Presence of the Lord", from Blind Faith, and he said that, though he sang the song and really wanted to know God in that way, he didn't feel that he could call himself a Christian.

In spite of some girlfriend tantrums and some heckling from tour members who had gathered in his hotel suite, we had a really good time of sharing some songs, some scripture, and a prayer together (not a 'sinner's prayer'). He hugged me, thanked me...and then we never heard from each other again.

I still have never met Clapton (or seen him perform live). Hope you enjoy the show!

It is interesting that Clapton and Winwood are playing both this song and the Presence of the Lord song in their recent concerts. Both of them do indeed have to do with being spiritually lost and being spiritually found.

Thanx Ben for this bit of inspired music from a couple of geezers like us! I was also impressed at the lack of frenetic jumping and strutting. Just plain great music! Even the younger guys seemed to be enjoying themselves...

The song - Presence of the Lord - is actually about Eric buying his first home.
