The John Wesley Fellows Meeting at Candler---- The Senior Fellows
The John Wesley Fellowship began in 1977, with Steve Harper and yours truly being two of the first John Wesley Fellows chosen.  I have told the story of Ed Robb and AFTE  this past Fall on the blog so I will not repeat it.   Here are some of the senior fellows attending the meeting.

Guns and Religion--- Enough is Quite Enough
I was sitting at the traffic light when a pickup pulled up next to me.  On the back of the cab window was a bumper sticker saying 'Guns and religion. Now more than ever.'   Then I found the picture you see above, and then this one below......   My response to this nonsense above

I’m ready for it…Just finished the last book again to make sure it’s in my mind.
For those who are interested, the book: How Harry Cast His Spell is a great book for Christians to read with harry potter. The author, John Granger, presents the Christian elements of the books. It worth a read. His website is:

Check it out.
Oh a questions. will we ever get to see the art west books in e-book format? I do buy the hard copy of it but it would be nice to have it on my e-book reader.

Hi Terry:
The fourth Art West novel, Corinthian Leather is in the works even now. As for the Kindlizing of Art…..well that’s up to the Pickwick folks. I have no say.

It was so instructive to watch so many Christian leaders demonizing these books, books that encourage loyalty and knowledge and standing up to evil. Not to mention strong female characters and the fact kids were reading books far larger and more challenging than most of them would have tackled before.
Those books were some of the better products of those years and so many Christian leaders had their undies in twists because they didn’t fit their boring designs for books.
I’ve enjoyed the books and the movies and I look forward to these last two.

You’ll be interested to know that Ms. Rowling says she is a Christian, and considers Harry a Christ-figure in these novels to some extent. In fact many Christians have loved these novels, despite the fulminations of silly fundamentalist preachers, who by the way, didn’t read the novels.

Obviously a lot of Christians have enjoyed them. I didn’t know about the “Christ-figure” thing.
I call them “Christian leaders” because they are well known, probably do influence a lot of Christians and are the ones journalists go to when they want a comment, all too often. You call them “silly fundamentalist preachers”, which they of course are. Unfortunately they are more than that.
You more sensible Christians need to seize your religion, or hopefully just its image, back from the lunatics.

Actually a fair bit of the blame for this must be laid at the door of some of the media. They go looking for flamethrowers and then are surprised when people get burned. It is part of a rather deliberate attempt to caricature Christianity as the religion of the obscurantists, the ignorant, and the bigoted.

I wouldn’t necessarily say that it’s (always) deliberate, Ben. I’m inclined to say that it’s a squeaky-wheel-gets-the-grease kind of situation. The fundamentalist loons tend to be loudest (as I’m sure you’re aware, there’s an inverse correlation between intelligence and causing a stir), and so, they attract the most attention.

OK I started book 3 of the Art West series. Now how many books will be in the series and what is “Corinthian Leather” going to about?
You should do a audio version of these. Since Art seems to have a lot of you qualities you should do his part.
Wow! Ben Witherington III: Actor.

Wow, it looks really good. I’m a Christian, and not only do I like it, but all my friends and family do, too. I’m really looking forward to this coming out, hopefully other people won’t make all the Christians look bad by going wild and condemning this movie.

Hi Terry:
Corinthian Leather is about a dig in Corinth, an earthquake, a nasty Greek official, an emergency in Jerusalem, and the usual chaos :) Meanwhile Art and Marissa try to figure out how to work together. There will be seven books in this series the good Lord willing.

Thanks Ben. I want to let you know that I sent an e-mail to the publisher about releasing them in e-book format and Mr. Stock responded. He stated that the books are being converted over to Amazon kindle format and will be available in the future. Sounds good.
