Yokibics

A few months ago, I had the serendipitous joy of meeting a woman who embodies bliss. Gael Chiarella Alba RYT – HYT – describes herself as an “author, speaker, spoken word artist, happy camper, founder of Yokibics.” I had taken a class at a new yoga studio in my area and was immediately drawn to her.

Gael describes Yokibics as: “yoking the powers of body mind spirit while directing energy into action.”

The name came to her in meditation. “You can be amazed what power lies in the simple act of going within and listening. I saw the name in my mind’s eye as a banner fluttering behind a small plane in the sky. I demonstrated my trust in this offering of the Universe by trademarking it and dedicating my career to it. I knew it held the answer to my hearts calling at a time when I was searching for my way in life, and trying to find my voice – my own unique stamp. It embodied the essence of the gift I could give to the world. Whew! Knowing your gift spells relief!! That was in 1984. Delivering it to the world…well that’s a life journey that continues to this day, and begins anew again and again and again in so many ways.”

She adds: “Yokibics rests on a foundation of the Eight Limbs of Yoga, a proper integration of the Seven Chakra gifts inherent in human energy anatomy, and in the way we learn to express circular movement through the art of Aikido. The Yokibics Way integrates the emotional territory, language patterns, interpersonal relationships and gifts of genius inherent within each of the chakras. The result is an increase in your foundation pyramid PQ (physical intelligence) EQ (emotional intelligence) and IQ (the demonstration of your psychological intelligence.)”

Passion is such a big buzz word and Gael had plenty to offer on that topic.I think THE most important question a person can consider in LIFE is the question of passion! What are YOU passionate about? Why are you here?”

“When I ask that of myself, I know I am most passionate about growing into myself – fulfilling my potential – feeling excited about life and the awesome unfolding of this adventure, struggle and all. I am passionate about purpose, about discovering why we are here, making very sure I am listening to the subtle direction life sends.

I am passionate about ENERGY! My bodymindspirit, and yours, and how it all works. I am passionate about truth and the important willingness to look into the shadow. I am passionate about our children and the legacy we must leave for them, about travel, caring, touch, the word “yes!” and exploring the unknown… knowing always that life is good!”

She has advice to share for people who are looking their own passion.Do stuff that scares you – in a good way! I was scared of heights so I took up rock climbing. I always wondered if I had the stamina to really (really) take it to the limit so I took up mountaineering at the age of 43 summiting fourteener’s for fun. I was truly uncomfortable speaking in front of a group so I took up public speaking. You get it. And if you are going to fail, you might as well do it spectacularly! No one can fail quite like you can. Own it and be proud! Then get back up on the horse.”

A Box Full of Darkness
This image zapped me yesterday and at first I didn't want to look at it, or even acknowledge it. I much prefer to live in light than in darkness. Paradoxically, my work as a therapist over the past 3 decades has been with people who sit in shadow, cast out by those who were supposed to protect and n

Mirror Image
Overheard in the bathroom at the gym recently : there was a young woman who was there with a friend and looked in the mirror and said "I look like shit today."  My initial inclination was to mind my own business, since what I had to say might not be well received. She didn

Living Legacy-Zach Sobiech
There are some moments  when the petty, day to day annoyances melt away in the face of the fireball sun realization that life is fleeting, experiences are transient and people are on loan to us. Last night, when I watched the You Tube viral phenom video called My Last Days (On Rainn Wilson's Soulpa

Ecclectic Enthusiast
Recently I was speaking with someone who felt dismayed that she wasn't able to focus on any one career path, interest or purpose. She referred to herself as a "Doomed Dabbler", destined to wander aimlessly in the wilderness with no hope of finding refuge. As we spoke, within moments, a lightbulb wen

Woo woo vs. Whoohooo!
Once upon a time, I would have considered some of the events of my life to be  fodder for Twilight Zone episodes, with the theme song (do do do do do do do do~) playing in my head when they would occur. I didn't dare talk about them, out of concern for being thought weird or  committable
